I am trying to convince my dh that we should get Alissa's book/DVD combo, even though it is pricey. I have read the whole thread about the book that Rawkinlocs started... I have heard that the DVD is 3 HOURS long! Wow. Can someone please tell me what exactly is on the DVD? Is it just Alissa making recipes? Does she explain the raw lifestyle? Does she give other valuable tips?

I am not asking for someone to tell me word for word what is on there, just sort of an "outline" so I can show it to my husband to justify the cost! LOL :p :D

Thanks so much!

I just ordered the book and not the dvd, but a friend of mine ordered the dvd and I watched hers a few times before returning it. It really does give a lot of information as well as seeing the stuff prepared. I think it is worth the money now that I watched it. I don't think it is something that you will watch over and over, but it was interesting. The dvd is about two women who watch Alissa make a large variety of food. They taste each dish and ask her questions as she prepares the food. Thats about it.

Let's put it that way, you will get the fever to make all kind of raw food. She is a powerful motivator and her DVD is one of the best that i have seen as been produce. This is fun, entertaining and very informative. This is great when you start raw food.

If you take a class in raw food, you will pay more then what she charges. That way you get to watch in the comfort of your home and replay some of it if you want to try out a recipe.

I am in Canada and ordered both the book and DVD - it is costly because of shipping and getting hit with brokerage fees but it is worth it - the DVD shows her making every receipe that is in the book but she makes it so much easier than the way I was doing it. She is very motivating as well
I have used the book every day since getting it for receipes.
go for it

Get the dvd's. Well worth it. I've watched them numerous times. She makes creating raw food EASY! Every time you choose to go another direction, you'll have the dvd's to get you going again.

People are constantly coming back here saying they gone another way and don't know how to get back to eating raw. Watch the dvd. That's all they have to do.. Oh! and listen to Rawkin' Radio, of course. :)

The DVD is great to have. It's Alissa showing 2 lady's how to prepare many raw food dishes as well as answering pertinent questions about how to live Raw. The recipes are from Flax crackers, zucchini marinara, to blueberry pie. I think there are at least 10 on there. The great thing about having the DVD is you can share it with others who might be interested in Raw. It's a good introduction to what Raw food really means. I let my mom borrow it and she is now adding more raw into her diet.

Thanks for all the replies! I appreciate all the info, seeing as it is sometimes hard to preview things and no one I know has the DVD and/or book! I will show this to my dh. I am very excited to get this! Right now, I feel like I am floundering in my raw jouney since it is hard to get the things I need to make the recipes I want to try out (nuts, etc). I live in a very rural area and have a 4wk. old, plus 3 other children 5 and under, so it makes it hard to jet around to get what I need....

I just need some motivation, and the set (especially the DVD!) seems like the perfect answer. :D

I highly recommend the DVD! It's fun to watch and seeing Alissa conjure up all that great looking food makes preparing raw meals look so easy. I hate to prepare anything in the kitchen. I try to keep things simple. Watching her makes me want to jump right into the kitchen to whip up some delicious raw meals. :D

I believe that one of the ladies in the video is also part of the "befores and afters" when you log onto RFT.

I STRONGLY recommend getting the DVD with the book. Watch the dvd first. It shows you how REALLY easy it all is. And we do watch it over and over (especially when the kids have kept me WAY busy in the kitchen and I feel like I'm getting burnt out!). It gives me my second wind. Oh! And I don't know why, but for the past few times we've seen it, I go away from it HAVING to make guacamole. It's like I can't get enough of it after watching the dvd. Weird, I know, but I crave it so bad when watching that!:D

I love the dvd.. I'm not even eating raw right now but will watch the dvd (when my hubby isn't home!) just for fun sometimes.. it makes me want to start raw again and the food all looks so delicious.. I wish I could have been there sampling everything she made.

The book is great but there is nothing like watching someone make the raw food in front of you and this is the next best thing to an actual class.. maybe better because you can always rewind and watch again if you didn't get it the first time! I think it's a great investment if you're serious about going raw!

you could always check it out at your public library. i am currently waiting for the dvd and the book. many people have placed holds on the materials so for me, i will have to wait until october. if money is tight. the interlibrary loan program is amazing.

Thanks so much!

herbalgirl.... lemme tell you... this was the best investment I made other than Alissas book...

first of all ... my dh - he's not much of a reader - but he will watch a DVD... when I got my box of goodies - I started watching it b4 dh got home cuz I figured --- NO WAY WOULD HE SIT THRU this DVD....

well - I was in the middle of watching the first DVD when dh got home. He sat down - watched the whole thing - and the second DVD.... and it was wonderful. It gave him a clear understanding of what I was going to do - and why it was healthy. He was so supportive and excited which has made my journey much easier, happier and fun!! He looved watching all the foods being prepared and even handed me a note pad and paper and said -- make sure yu try that recipe -- write it down... I wanna try that one! It was so cool!!

PLUS... I had no idea what the foods were supposed to look like -- what the textures would be - so to actually SEE IT being prepared and how easy it was to prepare was very beneficial. Watching the DVD made it all seem very do'able... not daunting and scarey.... !!

and lastly... girrrrl... you gotta see the befores and afters of the ladies on the dvd with alissa ~ OMG.... sooo amazing!!! those ladies and the changes they go thru... I'll tell you something ...

well it's a secret but http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s43/FireStar_830/thsecret.gif ... I took the DVD to work with me and I would 'freeze frame it' on the b4 and after photos when I would need some inspiration during the day!! The changes are nothing short of miraculous.

so is the DVD WORTH IT?? .... GIRRRL ABSOLUTELY YEShttp://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s43/FireStar_830/bigthumbup.gif !!!

IDEA! We should talk Alissa into having conventions every year so we can all meet and see each other's progress. Stay up all night watching DVD's on raw and trading stories & recipes. :D

So glad to you all ordered both. I've had mine for two years--what a wonderful blessing. Felt like I could not afford it at the time and went ahead and got both. Watched the DVD's the day they came and fell asleep reading the book that night. AWSOME, life-changing wonderful. Had bought RAW (Juliano's book) about 7 years ago and only made a handful of the recipes--too much complexity for me. Alissa's is the most wonderful food--from basic to fancy--it's all in her book. Just know you will love both. Hope you update us when you get the set.
