So first off, is sushi considered part of the raw food diet? I have no problem with it if it isn't. I'm not fond of it really or anything, but I was just wondering.

Anyhow, I go back to school on Sunday and I'm sooo excited! I can't wait to be able to choose my meals and get rid of temptation!!! (But I'm not going to become over confident.) I do have a tip for my fellow college students who have to be on a meal plan. I have signed up to evaluate the campus dining services and with that I would get a free dining plan. This means that I can get more swipes allowing for more raw food groceries instead of having only a few options with actual meals if I want, too. So I would check into this at your school, especially if you can use groceries with it. I'm not sure if I will or not. Last year, I just got food with one swipe to last me the entire day. So if I used my swipe for the day up, I won't be tempted to buy anything else. (I'm very cheap.)

I have spent the summer trying to eat healthier and constantly researching raw food. Even looking at cooked food now, it just looks so pale and gross to me. That might be partly due to The Learning Channel and their shows on obesity. There was this lady who ate 30,000 calories a day and they mentioned how pale her food was and that is how you know it can't be good for you. Gosh, I think that might be a good incentive never to eat anything fried ever again!

Sushi isnt raw due to the rice, toasted nori sheets and fish/seafood. On Alissa's DV she shows the option of using cauliflower for rice. U can buy untoasted sheets( expensive) and put any number of fillings in them. Do a search and u will see a host of ideas just in case u do feel sushi like one day! Good Luck in school and have fun with you meal plan.

"Sushi" means vinegared rice, not raw fish like everyone loves to think. Traditional sushi is not. However I've gotten pretty used to what I call my Lazy Man's Sushi :D I just tear up raw nori, put it in a bowl with cucumber shreds and avocado, and sprinkle wasabi over it and pour bragg's or nama shoyu over it and eat it with a fork. :D

I'm gonna have to remember that one! That seems too easy! Where do you get your raw wasabi? Is it the powder. Or is it something else. Thanks for the info.!:D

I make lazy man's sushi too, with a twist. I like having bite size pieces to pick up (like sushi is). I take a plate and put 8-10 cucumber slices/circles on it. Then I break up a nori sheet into squares (just with my hands). Place a square on each cucumber slice. Next comes a piece of avocado and a couple of drops of nama shoyu. YUM!!! Finger food... I call it my riceless sushi! My son laughs at me...:p

I forgot my favorite ingredient....

After the sushi bites are done I sprinkle raw, organic black sesame seeds all over the plate of sushi.

YUM, YUM!!!

OK, I just popped in and read this, and I am definitely trying this sushi! I have read about black sesame seeds several times on this board, but I've never seen them? Are they more nutritious, or what's the point of using black over traditional white??

It's easy to sub grated veg for the rice in sushi (the problem is finding raw nori!) - daikon radish and carrot are good. You just have to squeeze some liquid out so it doesn't drench the nori.
