View Full Version : I know we don't have to count calories, but uh I put away quite a few apparently

Does anyone else look at that? Apparently I'm eating way too many nuts or something. I dropped a lot of weight this past couple of weeks cutting out the staples of my diet: Diet Coke, beer and bar food. Now I'm eating 100% raw and WOW I've eaten like 1800 calories already. I have a lot more weight to lose, so I'm guessing I need to lay off the all the nuts I eat?
I mean, calories in, calories out. I always thought you could eat 3,500 calories of lettuce and gain weight (if you could physically eat that much, but you know)

your body will most likely shift when you need to cut back, but the freedom behind raw is no counting calories and fat. Just eat to life, not life to eat.
Some days I eat what I know is alot of calories, but I am craving certain nutrients in my body and other days I eat lightly. Really try to "tune" yourself in with your body.
My body sometimes confuses hunger and thirsty. So before I eat I grab a large glass of water and if I am still hungry then I eat, but many times I'm not hungry anymore. That's just me, shrugs.

I like the water idea; I have done that in the past. I think I'm so excited about eating nuts with wild abandon that I feel like HA finally!! I can eat all of these things that I want to!! Same with avocados. I know it's strange to go hog wild over nuts and avocados but those are two things I have always figured I had to eat in moderation. I'm guessing the novelty will wear off?

Go hog wild and enjoy. As long as your body agrees then you are fine. I love them too and no the novelty of it all doesn't seen to wear off, LOL, but it does change to other things. Like this month it may be nuts and avocados and the next month you can't get enough of watermelon and the month its something else. LOL

Just curious - you say you are going "hog wild" on nuts and avocado, but what in your definition is "hog wild"?
I'm not trying to question it, but I know that for myself I often exaggerate on certain foods I associate, through having dieted so much in the past and being brainwashed about certain foods, with "bad" foods, but when I actually write down what I eat and look at how much I'm eating of that certain food, it turns out not to be so bad. For example, recently I've been worried that I'm eating too much fruit, but looking at my menus for the past few days, I realize it's more an issue of many small servings and sometimes half-servings of fruit (in other words, I don't sit down and consume a whole watermelon but a few big cubes :D). It also happened with honey - I had this perception that I was putting honey in EVERYTHING and was eating way too much but when I looked at my menus, I realized I was putting 1/2 tsp each time and the total wasn't adding up to more than 1-1 1/2 tsp a day, which, in my estimation, is not all that much.
Some days, especially when I feel a chocolate craving and make raw fudge, I feel like I must be eating tons of nuts, but it's only about 2 oz, which is moderate.

you know, i came to RAW after counting calories for half a year or longer... and i was so tempted to count calories one day just to see how much i was eating- i counted more than 2000!! i freaked out that thought- if this is how i'm eating every day then i'm doomed...
yet, i lost 5 pounds..and with time my appetite became more manageable and..well i don't know, the body gives much more clear instructions as to what it wants :) so you actually eat the optimum amount

i feel that i am eating less because it takes too long for me to figure out what i want to eat (not really hard fruits, veggie or nuts) but since i am transitioning it requires thought for me
i sit and stare at the fridge
then make a smoothie or eat
fruit and then think about it later
i used to spend all day in the fridge making
tasty concoctions
all sweet of course

Eat whatever you want/need to eat, especially now, as you are transitioning. I ate a lot more when I first went raw than I do now, although nuts and avocados are certainly very present in my diet. Just relax and enjoy the freedom, it can only do your body good. Think about it, you couldn't be eating any healthier, now, could you?

This is very true, and all of you guys are right. Thanks for the support. It's just a strange concept to me right now!
I have lost about 8lbs so far, so I'm not complaining. It's just unnerving at first!
