Well here I am in the over 50 place on here. A second place to be at home too. I will start posting on here now too. I am sure I will have lots of good news to post from now to when ever. I never give up. I have to meet my goal. I want the last part of my life to be a healthy one. I don't want to end up on alot of meds. Plus I want to be able to do things too. Plus I am done being fat. I want to get nice and trim. I was so fat for so many years. I am tired of that for sure. I am working my way down to 200 lbs or maybe even 180 lbs. Soon as it cools off some I will be on my treadmill again too. I am healing up pretty good now. So it won't be long till I can do things and not have to worry about hurting myself. So howdy my friends I am here for the long haul. Doug in Calif..... :)

Well it is going to be very hot here today. It said on the news it would be like 107 f. Hot hot hot. It is going to cool off for a couple of days and then back to this heat again. It can't last to much longer as fall is just around the corner. Well this week I am buying a new Green Star
Juicer to juice greens better. Like broccoli Stems that don't do well in my blender. But In this juicer I will get lots of juice out of them. Plus many other things it will juice so well too. I am getting it to juice greens with. I have other juicers for other stuff. I like to drink as much green juice as I can as it is the juice that Heals. Plus it is very Alkaline and that helps me lose weight too. Lemonade fresh is good for that too. Most people think it is acid, but your body turns it to Alkaline. Just don't every put sugar in it. Because that will turn it to acid. You can put Stevia in it that works. Plus I always make sure to drink alot of water. Juice does not count as water. People make that mistake alot. Oh I also wanted to say thanks for the warm welcome to the over 50 group too. I know I will like it over here too. There are so many of use that are over 50 on this board too. We need to stay with is and get real healthy. Raw is the way to go too. The green juices are full of the stuff we need too. Plus all the wonderful Salads one can have too. Not to bad for sure. Plus this way of eating makes you feel so good too. I love that nice light feeling. It's the best for sure. Well be back for more later so bye for now Doug in Calif loving his greens...

Oh I like Celery and Romaine Plus many more green juices too. The only fruits I add to them are tomatoes or bell pepper. It adds alot of flavor to the green drinks. I found a Place in AZ. to buy my juicer at so I don't have to pay for the taxes of Calif. It would be like an extra 32.00 and it is just one state away so it will be here in a day or two. I know I am going to love this one for sure. Doug In Calif Loving his greens... :)

Doug . . . you are awesome. I appreciate your trying to keep us over 50 going. I had just about given up on us. I was so happy and appreciative when we got our own forum, but the interest just dwindled away. I had surgery last Wednesday and just have not been up to trying to keep it going. Thank you so much.
It seems to me that those of us over 50 are rather special people to be interested in such a drastic change at our age. And other 50's are really an encouragement. And we can certainly encourage others!
Keep us going, Doug!

Well I hope your doing ok after being in the hospitol and all takes alot our of you. I just went through that last month myself and am still not feeling whole yet. You mean alot to me. Your my biggest supporter too. So thank you so much for that. I post on here for people that need inspiration to see it can be done. I myself love to read what people post on my Threads too. It makes me feel so good to know that people really care too. Oh I got my green star cs 2000 juicer yesterday and tried it out last night. It worked very well and it was easy to clean. The pulp comes out dry. So it is getting all the juice out. It will get lots of use too. I will still have my green smoothies too. I am glad also to see your back on here posting again too. Doug in Calf.........:) :) :)

Hey Doug . . . Hope you are still progressing after your surgery. Glad my surgical procedure is over. It has been 2 1/2 weeks now and I am doing well. Ready to get back to serious about weight loss, etc.
From other posts of yours I have read, it seems that you follow the acid-alkaline principles. I read in Dr. Young's book that one can lose a pound per day and before your surgery that is what you were doing? So I am curious. And in the beginning when I was losing that is pretty much what I was doing.
It seems that sweet fruits are acid. So lemon and grapefruit would be the only acceptable fruits, correct? Do you never have sweet fruit in your green smoothies? I have a problem getting a taste I like without sweet fruit.
If I am not asking too much, I would appreciate any information to help me get started losing, and find a smoothie without sweet fruits.
My healing process has been very good and the surgeon is "amazed" so I definitely want to continue in the direction I am headed.
Thanks for your encouragement and information for all of us.

Well you never put your name on the bottem. So I don't know what your name is. Ok now on to the smoothie. I don't use sweet fruits in them at all. I put tomato celery and bell pepper and to make it sweet I put a packet of Stevia in it. It is a really good base for your smoothie too. You will like it. As for eating fruits the berries are the ones I like. I have a pear now and then too. I like goji berries with strawberries in a smoothie just with the two of them. Lemon juice and Grapefruit juice really help alot too. Plus don't forget your water too. I sure hope your feeling better. I am just now starting to get better on my treadmill. Been on there all week an hour a day. still not 100% yet but getting much better now. Talk to you soon I miss seeing you on my posts too. Your friend Doug in Calif........

Ditto that. I had to just put things like tomato and cucumber in with the green juice for a long time cuz my body rejected fruit. I did not use stevia. I even made salsa smoothies with avocado in it!

Thanks, Doug. It seems that most people put a lot of fruit in their smoothies and I was having a problem with that idea. Really appreciate your input.
I am doing well since the surgery. It has now been 3 weeks. Occasionally I have a difficult day, but every time I have a good day it is better than the last good day. Today has been a very good dayl In another 3 weeks maybe I can start some exercise. It seems I will not lose no matter what unless I am exercising.
Thanks a Bunch!

Well I just got off the treadmill. I was on there for 61 mins and did 2 1/2 miles Pretty good I was at speed 2.6 mph too. I made a nice grapefruit smoothie. Now talk about good oh they are really good. The pick ones are a little sweet so it is really a good taste. It sure made me feel good too. I like lemonaide too. I have to do more of these things to get back to losing more weight. If you eat to much of the sweet fruits and have to many Nuts you won't lose weight. I here some people saying there gaining weight. If I am going to have fat I want a nice Avocado, now that is a very good for you food. When I was losing a pound a day I was having two of them a day too. I eat alot of tomatoes too. I can't wait till spring when I get back to bowling again. It is lots of exercise and so much fun too. Best part is my wife likes it too. In Nov, we will be married for 32 years. Wow time flys. I met her when she was 11. I never thought she would end up being my wife. How about that. Our birthdays are coming up fast mine is Oct 2nd, and hers is Oct 21st I will be 57 and she will be 51 I sure don't feel that old. Talk to you all soon and thanks for putting your name on the bottom Darlene. Doug in Calif.......  :)

Doug, you are amazing. I just read your other post also from yesterday. Sorry to be "late" in replying to this thread.
I learn so much from how you eat. And I am amazed at your exercise determination. Hopefully in a couple of weeks I will be back with my exercise, but I am never as faithful to exercise as you. Maybe in time you will get me motivated to keep up with you ! ! ! I just do not lose weight without exercising. And when I am exercising for some reason I am more motivated to eat like I want to eat.
Keep posting and motivating!

Doug,
Thanks for keeping the thread going. I actually forget to go the the over 50 area--kind of log in and pull up today's posts out of habit.
Doug, you are an inspiration to keep on keeping on--thank you.
Hope you are enjoying your juicer. Have not done too much juicing the last couple years although have become quite addicted to green smoothies. I remember greatly enjoying lemonade which was made with I believe half a lemon (seeds removed and the entire lemon--rind and all juiced). Then juice a couple sweet apples with it and greatest lemonade in the world over ice.
Well, I made the commitment to self to get in better physical shape and have joined the gym. Now to just get my butt over there and treadmill, etc.
Will make a point to check in here more often. Hope everyone is doing well.

Hey Doug,
I am so encouraged by your weight lost! I have been raw for 5 months and have lost 25 pounds. I have been stuck at 180.6 pounds for about 2 1/2 weeks. I am not sure what is wrong. The doctor was very hapy with my weight loss and cut back on my blood pressure medication. That was a happy day. I am hoping to be taken off my Lipator when I go back. She (my doctor) is thinking about it:confused: I will wait and see. I went raw to improve my health and that is happening but I want to lose weight also. My birthday is in February and I hope to weigh 160 anything, Even 169.9 would make my heart sing.
You keep me posted on your progress and I will keep you posted on mine.

Yes Doug. another belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you and your wife. I will be 59 in January and I only feel like I am in my late teens to early twenty's. Is pink grapefruit still acidic, even though it is sweet?

Doug,
I have stopped losing weight after 25 pounds:( How do you make the Grapefruit Smoothie? I would like to know if you sweeten your lemonaide. If you do, with what? I have added walking on the treadmil each day for exercise. I hope that will help. With the increase in exercise, I have noticed an increase in my appetite. Did that happen to you as well? Look to hear from you soon,
Lucky Lady

I just had my blood sugar checked and it was down to 85 Before I started my plan. My Doctor told me I was Borderling Diabetic and I told him I would not let that happen to me. So It just goes to show you that if you eat what your body needs, it will fix all the problems you have. Plus make you feel so much better too. Doug in Calif......
