anyone else love the energy you get from coconut oil? i have like 4-5 tbsp throughout the day and it seems like the more i have the more energy i have and the more i want to get up and move and do things. i guess the stuff about if boosting your metabolism, etc is true bc it honestly gives me so much energy. its really good for preventing you from overeating too bc 1) its really satisfying and 2) you have lots of energy so you aren't looking for a pick me up (via food).

oh and it makes your skin so nice.

anyone else having a love affair with this stuff?

Hi Samariah

I've been trying to incorporate it into my food, but it's kinda hard.. not a lot of things go with it. I tried eating it straight and almost yacked. Are you eating it straight? Maybe you get used to it?? I made some yummy chocolate with it, just melted it in the dehydrator, added agave nectar and cacao powder and cut it into squares when it set, keep them in the fridge, YUM! but all that agave nectar is just a little too sugary for me to eat all the time. Any other ideas?

I'm using it externally and completely in love with it ;)

Taking it straight can be difficult initially (for me it was a texture thing) but I figured out how to do it.

I put my serving into a shot glass, cover it with warm water and then I have another shot of hot water (not boiling but a little warmer than warm. *G*) and I take the first shot with the oil first - the water in that shot helps camoflauge the oil and then I follow with the hot shot to get all the oil out of my mouth.

It's much easier doing it with water than without. :)

Hope that helps!

Yes... I am having a love affair with coconut oil!!! RAWKIN AWESOME! I put a teaspoon (or so) on cashews... then sprinkle nutritional yeast on it and mix it all up ... its quite yummy!

there's also the coconut oil fudge that is amazing - recipe is floating around here on RFT somewhere.... do a banana search up above!

some add it to their smoothies or juices...

I personally eat it straight off the spoon. I started out by just taking small amounts at first... like less than 1/8th of a teaspoon.... at a time... then a litte more - until now I just stick a whole glob of it in my mouth and I love the taste as it slowly melts on my tongue!

I'm also using it as my primairy moisturizer face, and body... I'm looooving my coconut oil.... oh and yes... oil pulling with it too!!

RAWKIN AWESOME.. gift from the Gods/Goddesses.... !!

As a result of these posts I added some to my chocolate ice-cream today.
It was not enough to bring about and great change to the taste so I will just increase the quantity gradually.

You can't beat coconut oil as a temporary appetite suppressant. By temporary I mean just enough to get you through fixing a cooked meal for the family before you fix your own.

I forget to take my coconut oil at night, but almost never in the morning. In the morning I fix breakfast for my 3 year old, then feed the baby, then fix my breakfast. Coconut is perfect to get through this 1-2 hour stretch of feeding everyone but myself. This is how I take it:

1 TB filled w/ oil
1 highball glass w/ 1 tsp raw ACV and 1 tsp raw honey or agave nectar. Mix honey and AVC until emulsified. Fill the glass with filtered water.

Take 1TB coconut oil followed immediately by the tangy/sweet water. I find the ACV is tart enough to cut the oil. You could also substitute lemon for the ACV.

The coconut oil seems to tamp down the cravings while the water fills your tummy and gets you over the hump until you can get to eat.

Is there a difference between coconut oil and coconut butter for the purposes you all are using it for? I know coconut butter includes the oil and the meat of the coconut. Could I use it in place of the oil?

As an appetite suppressant I don't see why not. It might even work better! Obviously it wouldn't work for oil pulling. I think if you use it in recipes it would give a richer, more coconut flavor than just the oil.

RawkStar... take it last thing right b4 you get into bed... I was forgetting to and so I started making this my habit - right b4 bed... in goes the coconut oil! really relaxes me so I can sleep better too!

interesting ... I love to eat some of the coconut butter on raw crackers or raw bread - but it also seems so much heavier to me - so I only have that as a treat - just in case it will add weight on rather than help me lose weight.

but you know my bff (the holistic healer and the one who told me about coconut oil in the first place) she agrees with yu - she believes it would react the same in your body - and you might end up with even more benefits due to the meat of the coconut being in the butter.... I'm just hesitant to try that though - cuz it's her 'theory only' she hasn't read that anywhere ---
and the coconut oil is working for me -- so I kinda go on the premise... if it aint broke - don't fix it!!!

I believe coconut butter has some of the meat mixed in w/ the oil. I personally can eat coconut butter by the spoonful, but I have a more difficult time w/ the oil. I mix coconut butter in a lot of stuff I made and it is so yummy. I also eat it when I have the munchies in the kitchen and can't figure out what to eat.

Mine says coconut oil butter? I got it from Nature's First Law. Not sure if that is the right stuff to use? If it does all of these things, I want to eat it no matter what!! :) I also want to try oil pulling, what do you recommend?

I'll try that StarFire--thanks for the tip! :)

Dare we do an unscientific study between coconut oil and coconut butter? Maybe a week or two and see if the benefits are the same or better? I would also like to see if there is a difference in weight gain/loss. I just looked at my containers and the oil has 120 calories/TB and the butter only 83 calories/TB! If you go by the calorie in-calorie out philosophy, our weight loss could improve! But how does it affect the metabolism...that is the question!

I think coconut oil effects the metabolism through the fact that its made of medium chain and short chain triglycerides. almost all other fats are made of long chain triglycerides. well, coconut oil is converted directly into energy by the liver while other fats circulate through the system and can end up stored. that doesn't occur with coconut oil. as soon as your body gets it, the liver takes it and you get energy!

Oops! My bad--poor writing on my part up above. I meant will the butter affect the metabolism the same as the oil. :o Nothing has changed--it's still MCT fat, so it would seem like both would affect the metabolism the same....I guess it's the ol' "If it ain't broke don't fix it" mentality that is keeping me from trying the butter!

I read somewhere..might even be on the Artisana jar, or the one from Tropical Traditions that coconut butter is 70% oil. I have a jar that I mix mostly oil with about 3T butter..makes it just a bit creamier......tastes great~

I just made the awesome Thai Salad in the Rawvolution Book...Cabbage, Carrots, Zuchini, Basil, Cilantro, Mint (I also added red pepper and 5 bean sprouts)...

The dressing calls for olive oil, but I used coconut oil and it was wonderful...
