Do they make you hungry? I've been having them for three days now, then eating solid raw food at night and tonight I am HUNGRY!!!!! I'm about to go see what I can forage...groceries are getting low about now. We haven't had to make a store run in days!

No, they don't make me hungry...actually fill me up for quite awhile. I usually put a few nuts (usually cashews) into mine, because I usually use a banana as well as the greens.

I'm not the expert on green smoothies though (Where are you, VeganforLife?) and have only been on this raw journey for a month now.

Good luck to you, though! Are you new to raw?? I know that when you are new, you will need to eat more until your body realizes that you are feeding it such wonderful food. Maybe you just need to eat more???

Blessings,
Terri

This is my third time trying to go raw, and I have been so for just over a month. What I find odd, is that I was wanting less and less food, and then this week, with the inclusion of green smoothies (no nuts), I am getting my hunger back! Weird???

My hunger varies drastically as well and so I have difficulty being prepared for it. This week I started adding young coconut to my green smoothies in the hopes of averting a SAD crash in the evening when I cook SAD dinner for family. Had mentioned on another thread that I seem to over-eat every other day. Am also frustrated with the prices of things. I love arugala but to pay close to $5 for 5 oz is just not possible.

No, green smoothies (eventually) will not make one hungry. I say eventually because since it's only been three days, your body is adjusting to this new good food choice you've made. I would suggest adding some avocado, or make your liquid base a nut mylk or even throwing in some nuts or coconut oil. It also depends on how long you've been raw. I see that you stated a not very long time. Are you 100%? Your body is changing. If you are still hungry, make them bigger. How big are they? You see? There's a lot of factors that go into this. They are HUGE craving killers and I have literally gone a day without eating anything but my green smoothie in the morning. Keep on doing what you're doing, meaning drinking the green smoothie. They are THE BEST raw food compliment one could ever ask for. Also, drink plenty of water. A lot of times when we think we're hungry, we are actually dehydrated (thirsty).

Your body is used to eating empty foods. Foods that have no nutritional value or very little. When one incorporates raw into their diet, their body (for a time period and every BODY is different), but their body still is thinking it's eating empty foods and needs more. Try adding the nut mylk, nuts, avo, and/or coconut oil. That will make a difference I bet.

Keep at it. You're doing good!!!

Thanks Vegan4Life:) I added some raw hemp powder this morning, to see how that does. I love having my kale in the mornings! I am at 100% raw. I jumped into it on 8/1, and only had 2 meals the entire month of August that were cooked. The only thing I've been unsure about is the use of spices (which I don't use often) I usually use fresh herbs instead, but I LOVE a plateful of tomatoes with only salt & pepper!

what is your favorite green smoothie recipe (that tastes more friuty than veg) also how many times a day do you drink and how much (cups)?

I made my 1st one yesterday and think I could get into it - I just wanted to know more how you incorporate them into your life

I do a 60/40 ratio - 60 % fruit, 40% greens. I love kale - I do NOT like lettuces in smoothies. Spincah is excellent! This week, I've been doing peaches, honey, water, 1 whole lemon (yellow peeled) and kale. Today I used us a fruit salad, added peaches, honey, and banana then kale.

I also love making savory, spicy, tomato smoothies with cilantro! It's like salsa in a glass:) or you can season it up italiany and throw in some spinach!

Initially I was hungrier, I think it was my bodies (positive) respond to the nutrition. It wanted more ..

After a week of raw that hunger decreased and now I eat a lot less overall.
