I have to write a paragraph about a fruit or vegetable I have never heard of before. Umm, I probably have heard and eaten more than the average person in that class. Unfortunately I can't find a fruit or veggie I have not heard of. I googled it and can't find anything. Does anyone know a random fruit or vegetable that many have not heard of?

P.S. On the list of vegetables they had watermelon. I thought it was interesting. It mentioned "gourd" so i dunno haha

dreamrawalwz,

What a fun project. Will be more challenging since you have heard of so many "not mainstream" fruits and veggies just being here. Merliton (Chayote), Rambutan, Lotus, Maca (dried Peruvian root), Soursop or PawPaw. Can't think of any more off the top of my head.

Luffa sponge - these are edible when young and mature into sponges

I would suggest fiding an edible "weed" or wild plant in your area to write about.

Here's a link to a book that maybe your local library or Barnes and Noble has that you could look some things up:

I'm thinking you may have heard of this one before, but I hadn't until one week ago. :)

Yes I appreciated the thread about the chayote as I have been eyeing them at my local market. A Hispanic woman in the check-out line today told me that they cook them and they are delicious. She said it is a squash.
