My doctor told me that due to my PCOS and Hypothyroid that I should do cardio 5 days a week for atleast an hour and to try and burn 500 calories a day for the rest of my life if I want to maintain a healthy weight. It's a bit hard to think about working out an hour 5 days a week forever!!! and especially when I have to focus so much on the calories that I am burning which I usually don't do. I usually just do pilates & yoga... I hate cardio, it makes me stressed out but I guess I'll have to start it up.
Just wondering if anyone else has to stick to a strict workout plan everyday?

just remember your thyroid WILL heal itself on raw and I don't think your doctor thinks this...

I know, I do believe this in my heart... that's why I need to go back to eating 100% raw because ever since I've been around 90%, I've not been doing as good... and I find if I Just allow alittle bit of cooked food, even if it's just veggies, my cravings get worse and it's harder for me to go back to eating 100%. I'm starting the september challenege tomorrow though so hopefully I can get through a month at a time 100% and see if my thyroid and metabolism gets a bit better.

Ah yea, that tiny bit of cooked can send some into a spiral, including me! Good luck with September. It's a process and a journey.

Exercise for me is yoga about 4 times a week and power walking about 4 times a week. I do not get and keep my heart rate high anymore. A friend of mine's brother, just passed away. He was an avid runner, biker, and was always trying to get his heart to go faster and faster. Turns out all that makes the heart build too much muscle and it stops beating. 1 and 10 people die of this every day. I don't know the medical term, but I would be wary of doing heavy cardio more than once or twice a week, especially for an hour?????

Right now I do maybe 40 minutes of cardio, 3 times a week, and then I lift weights and do pushups on the in between days.
I don't think there is anything wrong with doing an hour of cardio 5 days a week, I used to dance more than that.
I've heard of the heart-muscle thing, but I think that usually happens in HUGE weight-lifting guys, and over-weight persons..their heart HAS to get bigger just to pump everything through the mass of their body, but...I doubt that will happen to a Raw healthy person, who isn't too muscular or overweight for the cardio they'd be doing.

Get a bike! :p There will be some nice fall weather for starting iin!
I ride 20-60 miles 2 or 3 times a week, but I started with 5 miles and just built up gradually.
I swim about an hour 2 times a week --usually 1500 or 1600 meters --about a mile
I do yoga 3 or 4 times a week, one long practice on sunday mornings before church
I lift free weights 2 times a week.
I have another exercise routine based originally on the Royal Canadian Air Force plan from the 60s. (I'm old). I add some yoga to the basics--lots of stretching, crunches, pushups, etc.
I feel great. I am 66. :D

I have set myself a goal of exercising a minimum of 20 minutes each day as part of the September RAW food challenge. I find that very easy to do, in fact I get the 20 minutes done and I just feel warmed up and want to continue and I almost always do 60 minutes or more. I have been doing this since August 21st when SharonC shared with the over 50 group a type or style of exercising that I really like and works for me. Here's what she said:
One of my favorite workouts is to interval train with the rebounder and weights. I do a set of free weights and then rebound for a few minutes and then back and forth going through several weight exercises. It breaks up the workout so it does not get so boring and is supposedly more beneficial to workout this way.I put on some moderate tempo music on the stereo and a scenery video on the TV with the sound off and I just move with it, moving from one exercise to another with frequent bounces thrown in and I find it a very fun and satisfying way to workout. Thanks SharonC.

I cannot image NOT doing a regular program for life. Beleive me when you are older you will be so glad you committed to it. I try to do an hour of cardio 4-5 days a week, and fit in weight training to. I have done this since I was in my teens,so 30 ish years.
Infact I am off for a jog now. While everyone else (house quests and dh..) sleep in !!!

Yes. I have started my own personal challenge with working out at minimum an hour a day. I felt that there was something missing in my life and with September just starting, figured this is a great time to do that. I also walk 6 flights of steps two times a day. Used to wind me terribly, but now I almost jog up the steps. I also walk my dogs a minimum of about twenty minutes a day.
I like yoga, Kenpo (the arms/shoulders and the regular Kenpo), t-tapping, rebounding, using my glider (during commercials - both the rebounder and the glider), the biggest loser dvds, biking, pilates. I like to change it up. I get too stagnant and bored with one routine day after day. Plus your muscles and body will respond better.
I agree with dream about your doc not knowing about eating raw and the healing of thyroid problems. I know.;)
