View Full Version : September Exercise Challenge
Well fall is almost here now and we are three quarters through the year but it is never too late to start getting in shape. With school starting this month and schedules picking up it will be even more important that we purpose to put exercise into our schedules. So with that being said lets not neglect ourselves as we need this for us! Remember how much better you will feel when you take some time out for you and exercise. Not only is exercise a destresser but I find it gives me more energy and an overall positive mental attitude. So who is in for September. I know we are all busy here but we need to make this a priority! You define your own exercise goals and times. The main thing is we need to get it moving! So who is with me for September! Remember that today YOU can change your life. Don't just sit back and let life keep passing you by. If you don't like the way you look and feel - do something about it! Do something good for yourself and join us! And for those who are happy with the way you look join in the fun with us so you can keep maintaining that beautiful bod! Now tell me who is in and what your goals are!
My goals are simple this month. With me working more hours, school starting for the kids, homework, housework I am completely overwhelmed so I just want to do some form of exercise 3-4 times a week. For me this will include stuff like rebounding, biking, exercise at the gym, swimming, etc.
Now what are your goals?

Okay, since I am not joining the september raw challenge (working at my own pace now) I am definitely in on the workout challenge. My local Bikram studio is doing a 30 day challenge for september - 30 classes in 30 days- and I am signing up. THAT is my sole goal for the month. I feel that if I do bikram yoga every day, I naturally will turn to raw for my food choices. On days I do yoga I never crave junk food, or SAD, just live fresh foods. So for this challenge, I am soooo ready!
britaniefaith
08-31-2007, 08:05 AM
My Goals:
60 mins of cardio 5x a week
Yoga/Pilates 3x a week
Strength training with resistance bands 3x a week
YEAH WE ARE OFF TO A GREAT START! I am so excited to see so many new faces! Hopefully last month's crew will be here too!
But I say a big hooray for all of us who are ready to commit for September regardless of our busy schedules or obstacles that come our way. Oh and don't forget to post when you exercise and what you did for the day! Part of the accountability and fun! It also gives us all a push and inspires everyone to get moving! I applaud you all and welcome you to this challenge.

I think I'll give this a go. My goal is to exercise 3 days/week with at least two of those days bikram yoga...and then to at least get one walk in if I only do yoga 2x. Hopefully I will be doing yoga 3-5 times/week, but I'm being realistic here.

There is no starting or stopping....there is only doing.
Have my sneakers by the door, will put them on when I get up and go out the door. Not sure how much I can do because I am starting from scratch.
Apparently when I was 12 or so (a gymnast...then and thru high school) I fractured one of my lowest vertabrae in three places, it healed and no one ever knew. I fell last year and because it was weak it slipped out of position. After my vertabrae went out I stopped everything and am really weak....but...will do...will do...will do~:)
I'm in, will wear pedometer and post totals each day.

Well here we are a great big awesome group. We are all at different fitness levels and have different goals. But the main goal we all have in common is we want to all be in better shape and feel great. We all need to keep each other encouraged so I hope you guys will help me cheerlead one another on as I will be extremely busy in September and not sure if I will have the time to blog everyday. Congratulations to those of you below who are taking a stand and commitment to better health by exercising. It is encouraging/inspiring to me to see people who are really wanting to change their life and DO something instead of just accepting where you currently are! We need to reach inside ourselves and really push it for September! Welcome September Group:

I just finished rebounding with my 12 year old daughter and she said "mom - I never thought you would be in better shape than me and outlast me. She was tired about 10 minutes into the workout and had to stop several times. I never took a break the whole 45 minutes. Not bad for an old mom!:D

I just moved form California to Illinois and really want to accomplish being raw. Does anyone out there know where I can find support and good raw foods out here? This is country living and I can not find any good healthfood stores or any support. I live in Onarga, Illinois, 35 miles south of Kankakee, Il. Thank you!!!!!

I'm in for this month too! I do exercise everyday and will post as I get a chance what I've done. I enjoy reading everyone's posts, it gives me ideas to mix up my routine!
My usual routine is...
Monday-Cardio and weight room at the club
Tuesday-Step class
Wednesday-Cardio and weight room (club)
Thursday-Conditioning class and step class
Friday-either a circuit training step class or cardio and the weight room
Saturday-is something outside like a walk, hike, or what ever!
Sunday-Cardio Blast class
I stretch each day, yoga several times a week, and ab work daily. I do mix this routine up but for right now this is it!
Goal for this month is to add cycle classes and be more consistent on the yoga classes too. I have a few more sessions (pre-paid) with my trainer so I'll concentrate on the weight room and adding to what I am doing there.
Welcome Cinnamon and Shine 72! - No it is never to late you guys are right on time! And Wow Cinnamon what a plan! You are going to look so great October 1st with all of that planned exercise! You should be our team leader! I know your my hero!:D

Anyone Else! Come on you know you want to join too!
Morn, 45 min rebounding! Now that would be a long term goal for me. This thread is going to be so encouraging for me. Hope I can do the same for others.
I got the rebounder out last night. Actually got up after going to bed. Since the accident the tops of my feet will sometimes puff up. It's the oddest thing. It's like there is fluid just under the skin and jiggles like jello. It is quite uncomfortable, and the skin is being stretched, feels like a headache on top of my feet. So I thought my lymph needed moving and rebounded (walked on it) for maybe 2-3 min. When I checked my feet the fluid was gone!!!
Put the pedometer where it could not be missed and have been wearing it all day.
GilmR, you are so blessed to walk (bearfoot?) in the sand with the sound of the surf, the fresh smell of the ocean breeze and the little birdied scurrying around. I'm plumb happy for you. :) I love walking on the beach. Actually I just plain love the beach period. Don't get there much though.

09-01-2007, 06:57 PM
Hey friends,
I got to admit I've signed up for this in the past and didn't follow through..... but the new and improved Raw Stina is taking exercise more seriously. I'm committing to a minimum of 1/2 walking every day. That's a good minimum to fall back on. But I want to do a variety of exercise over the course of a week: bicycling, hiking, swimming, belly dancing, aerobics class, etc. Make it fun. I clean houses for a living and it kicks my butt and I need to get stronger. And that doesn't count for exercise....
I already got my exercise in today. Since I'm wholly raw now I've learned to socialize outside of restaurants, and I often meet friends for walks, which is just great.
Love, Stina

exercise will consist of walking my hill again... for those that aren't familiar with my 'hill'... it's a 1,000 ft drop to sea level ....
beautiful ocean view - fresh air and a major challenging hike on the way back up the hill!!!
the length of the walk is about 1 mile round trip.
I will get the cob webs off the ab machine and get going on that too...
mondays - 5 hours of hula (the last 3 hours are very intense workout)
plus 2 to 3 other days of hula with 1 hour to 2 hours of work out (sorry - can't give the days cuz they will vary - depending on work schedules)
time to make magick!! lets do this...

StarFire, are you saying 5 hours of hula on Mondays?
Teri
Yes but the first two hours are not as intense -
first hour - advanced class - but there are several seniors so our pace is slower
2nd class - I help the kumu (hawaiian hula and spiritual teacher), this is a beginner class so I am often playing the Ipu while kumu shows the students the moves - or kumu plays the ipu and I help teach by showing the steps
3rd class is the very intense class... it's a closed class -- only the really REALLY advanced girls - so we are pushed pretty hard. Lots of leg work and lots of sweating!!! But I love it!! :D We also learn to chant in this class.
http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s43/FireStar_830/affae1d6.jpg .... I loooove to hula!!!
Today my daughter and I went rollerskating for 2 hours! IT was a blast. SHe wanted to go and I hadn't rollerskated in years so I wasn't sure how I would do but I did great. Didn't fall at all and she said she had a hard time keeping up with me. Too funny! I guess I still got it and I can still skate backwards! Was a blast!

I'm here rawkin along and ready to do some movin' in September. With my crazy schedule, I will definitely have to be creative and think outside the box. It sure was nice doing the boot camp stuff with the kids. Now, everyone's schedules are more demanding and so we'll just have to get more creative.
I'm glad to see so many familiar and new faces here......
My primary goals this month is to try to re-build some lean and lovely muscle. I think fasting last month wiped out what I was working on. I'm probably going to be going to the gym at the university since I have classes 3 nights a week now. We'll see...still thinking September goals through.
Well, we didn't get any bikes. I couldn't make up my mind and didn't see any really really good deals and so I want to find a bike this week. Saturdays are my free choice/make-up days...I decided to settle for a series of stretches today and perhaps, something tomorrow.
Keep it Rawkin'

I am going to spend my cardio time outdoors while the weather is good. I enjoy the run along the Lake Bluff road, which is fairly hilly in some places, especially back up to my house, really steep. When we first moved here and started running in April I could not run up the hill to the house, had to walk 3/4 way up but now I can run the whole way. :D Off to run !

Good morning everyone!
I got in my push-up, crunches, and squats today and ALL the numbers went up! YAY!:D
Push-ups (girlie version) - 13
Crunches - 60
Squats - 30 (my legs are now jello!)
I think once I can do 100-120 crunches okay, then I'll try for the correct form push-ups (like the ones I had to do a lifetime ago in the Army). Or maybe when I can do that plush 50 of the girlie version. So ya'll will know when the switch happened, cause the number of push ups will most likely decrease at that point!;)

Good morning everyone! I got my run in this morning, yes! I really did not want to get out of bed this morning, but I did. I got a lot of extra exercise this weekend. I went out with friends and we danced the night away. I did have two drinks. I also walked nine holes of golf yesterday carrying my golf bag and it took us 2.5 hours because of the holiday and being so busy. I plan to do a lower body workout tomarrow.

Back from a quick trip to NY and started my excercises again today. 2 hours of pushing the baby that I nanny for in a stroller followed by a 90 minute bikram yoga. :) HEY HEY HEY....HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE!
It seems like it's hard to catch my breath these days. I sitting here now writing in my organizer...setting things up for the rest of this month. I hate when I begin to get "controlled" by my little planner....when I have to use one that means my life is chaotic and I'm busy doing a juggling act...I miss my flexible schedule. Anyway, I feel so much better and I'm thinking that maybe I should have stretched or something because I feel great and so I'll celebrate with a nice brisk walk on tomorrow which is usually my free choice day anyway...taking it easy and will try to hit it hard on Monday. I feel kinda bad not having time to post as much but my goal is to at least post here as much as possible. Other than that, I'm am still loving this raw journey. I haven't had much time for creativity with foods, just easy stuff (juices, fruits, salads, and munching on nuts) .... I am revamping my exercise goals and will do an update on Sunday night God willing...
Thanks Vegan:)
Keep it Rawkin' Everyone!!!

We did laps around the house today. By "we", I mean me and the kids. The goal was to walk one lap, and jog ten, then walk two. Well, my oldest and youngest did it that way.
Me and my middle (the one who has autism), alternated jogging and walking for those 10 laps. I actually had to pull him along (not dragging, but urging), so it was kinda like jogging for two. The way I'm explaining it isn't doing it justice, but I got one HECK of a workout in!;)
Plus, it was 86% with the wonderful Georgia humidity while we did it!:D So it's like a visit to the sauna to boot!:D

NYbutterfly - Thanks! Yes, some days, it can be.;)
Today I did:
-16 pushups - girlie style still - Oh, and they were harder to do than the other day, cause I was still a little sore, but I did 'em
-70 crunches - my abdominals seem to develop strength the fastest
- Leg lifts (35 each leg) - You know, the kind where you lay on your side and lift your leg up to about a 90 degree angle. Now, tell me this, how come those were so much easier in my mid-twenties than they are now in my mid-thirties?! Oh wait, I know why! I wasn't as big and out of shape then as I had been these past couple of years!;)
So I did it. Oh, and my legs were jello after those leg lifts, so I KNOW they did something!:D

I decided to join because I am exercising daily as part of my rehabilitation after a major stroke and figure that all that exercise should count, too. This morning I did 24 side leg lifts and 24 regular leg lifts, 15 right leg lifts using the rubber bands, and 15 each of the knee raising to the chest, and the side to side. I do those at least two or three times a day. Then I put on my brace and walk about 60- 150 feet.
Some day I hope to be able to do this withoout a brace, but for now that doesn't seem to be an option.

DI !!!! MY FRIEND ! I was thinking about you this AM wondering how the surgery went. The bike trainer is in the box, but alas, I have not mailed it yet !
Nice to have you back.
Although not my usual, my September fitness goals are to be able to walk without assistance. I've already gotten rid of the crutches in lieu of a cane! You should see the "metal hardware" that was in my body! It is incredible and weighs about 1/2 a pound! Maybe I can take a picture and put it on here! Anyone interested? I feel like the strength of my muscles will help me heal faster because I feel comfortable walking around aside from the torn muscle that was pulled when trying to CHISEL:eek: the plate from my femur!!! But alas, I am metal free, day 2 of a "Heavy Metal Cleanse" + drinking a bonehealing/surgery healing tea concoction, a homeopathic for the same, and plenty of juices + good raw foods like pears and pineapple which are so very good for inflammation/bone healing! I will be back out there running/biking in no time my friends. Until then carry on and I shall live vicariously through you.!!!!;)

Checking in...looking forward to cooler days when I can get out of the gym.
But for yesterday: 60min stairs/eliptical
20min weights.
PS. Yeshia, congrats on the 30 day milestone! WOOT!!

Ok yesterday I walked for 2 hours again and did a bikram class. Today's PLANS are another class, maybe a bike ride. And a nice long nap would be sweet!

i'm about to go for a run (not on a road - trail run i guess) - and i'm wondering what kind of stretches you guys do before a run?
runners tend to tighten up in the pelvic region + quads and hammies so any kind of lengthening stretches, held for 60 seconds, no bouncing. Deep relaxing stretches...Pay closer attention post run when your muscles are warmed up but shortened. The key is strengthening, lengthening and relaxing. Good luck!
Welcome northern stars! Glad you are with us!
Just wanting to check in today. Just did walking and my modem is still wacky and so I can't chit chat with everyone like I usually would have done in the past. Saying a quick hello....

Good afternoon everyone!
Today I did:
16 push-ups (it was harder to do them today:rolleyes: )
obliques (30 each side)
30 squats (held the last one for a bit to REALLY feel the burn)
Tomorrow is my day off. I took yesterday off too. Oh well. I'll be back at it on Sunday!:D
Today I took a 25 minute bikeride outside. It was gloomy and grey and windy and my ears are hurting now. But at least I squeezed something in before I have to go and get the girls from school!:D

Good Morning!
About to tackle the books at my 2nd home soon (library). I just wanted to quickly check in. It will probably just be walking again for me. I'm working on trying to maintain some consistency with my exercise. I still haven't adjusted to the schedule change last month and all the new projects and deadlines. Exercise is getting the short end of the stick. I'll make it happen one way or another.
Have the best Saturday possible everyone!

Well I skipped the only Bikram class of the day to do my housework otherwise it would never get done. So my "excercise" was 3 hours of cleaning and hanging pictures.
It is cold and rainy here today, especially being on the ocean in NH, but if Raw Jewelery Lady can walk in the 40 degree weather, I can get myself to walk in the upper 50's weather! So that's my goal today.
I miss summer already :(

This morning I did the same routine except I had to get back into the wheelchair because I am hurting terribly from hammer toes when I am walking. In a while I am going with my husband to the drug store and hopefully get something to put under the toes to get the pain to stop. He just called from the drug store and is getting me some arnica gel to help with the pain and the only thing they had are toe seperaters so I told him to get some and I will try that.
Thanks for all the encouragement.

Just checking in - I started walking my hill again and working my abs on the ab machine. I'm going to have dh measure the hill - I thought it was a mile round trip - but I was halfway down the hill and realized there's a sign that says MacFactory 1/2 mile down the hill.... so... It must be longer than 1 mile. I do know that the top of the hill is at 1,000 elevation. the bottom of the hill is at sea level... gotta tell ya - walking down is a breeze -- a real pleasure!! :D it's the walking back up the hill that gets me... but it's the only way I can get home so .... once Im down - I gotta go back up -- lol!!
since I fell off exercising for a while ... the legitimate excuse for stopping was the rainy season mid summer -
the excuse for not starting up again when the rains stopped... umm... laziness.
so I started yesterday -- figured I'd probably find an excuse this morning - but I was up at dawn and sore as heck - but I did it... and I'm so glad I did! I feel energized... sore.... but energized! :D
doing the ab work out has been very interesting... the last time I did these I was soo heavy I couldn't feel any muscle in the flab at all... now that I've taken off 51 pounds doing the ab crunches - I could actually feel a muscle in there! How exciting.... sore... but exciting!!! http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w135/kmrmom42/situps.gif
so ... Im workin it!! http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s43/FireStar_830/R11chickendancing.gif

Yep, Starfire....that's so true about the ab work. It is kinda strange. I used to be so constipated and bloated ALL the time before finally embracing raw last August I could never feel anything when doing ab work. My tummy was alway like a hard ball. It feels strange to me now to for it it feel so soft...not used to that yet. I still trying to firm it up more; I don't want a six pack just a little more firmness. Good to see ya on here.

Hi Everyone! I haven't had easy access to the computer lately, but I'm very happy to report that I've only missed one day of exercise. Mind you, I clean two houses a day on average and that really kicks my butt and leaves me with a sore back. I found walking with the arms really swinging is very relaxing on my body, so I'm doing at least a half-hour a day. I really need to be doing yoga. I thought everything would be perfect with me eating raw..... but I found my body had some demands that I'd been tuning out!

Well, I am not too disappointed to report that I am not exercising up to "my old caliber" but I am stretching A LOT + walking unassisted 4 days post op from the removal of all my "metal hardware"!!!! (Dr told me 2 weekS NOT 2 DAYS!!!) + I am dosing up on my homeopathics including my tea concoction, arnica, and "Christopher's" massage oil for bones and joints. Aside from the muscle tear and bruising I think it looks pretty good and am anxious to see how the internal progress is coming along....I go back tomorrow for a check up! I am going to start doing more of a "workout" somehow.....maybe some crunches and leg lifts....just something to keep my mind in the game!!!!! I did a lot of stretching this a.m. which is hard because the quad is so tight (torn?)....Keep working hard everybody, can't wait to join you!!!
Morn and lavandarj you look incredible. Happy anniversary soon to you Morn!!!! Have a beautiful day! I am trying to figure out how to insert a picture of my "metal" to show you!!!!

Yesterday was my scheduled day off.
So today I did ten minutes on the stair-stepper.
But let me clarify. This was not at a gym. This wasn't even a stair-stepper you buy and take home. It was literally the stair that lead from the first floor to the second floor! And here's the sad part. I had my heart set on doing 20 minutes. However, by the time I fell down for the SECOND time at ten minutes because my legs were officially jello, I figured 10 minutes could be the starting point, and I'll work up later from there!;)
I did however work up QUITE a sweat! And my legs got tight and then all jello, so I know I was doing something good!:D Okay, time to hit the shower!

Hello RAW Peeps!
I'm just checkin' in to say hello. Yesterday, I did "tae bo" without the DVD. I remember most of the moves from the boot camp DVD and so I just had a little fun all by myself doing the movements while watching myself in the mirror.
I'll probably do the same today but also throw in some ab work. I need to buy some clothes but I just haven't been motivated to do it yet. I am getting tired of having to tug on my pants though because they keep slouching off of me. I need some workout clothes. They look a little baggy (like I'm wearing someone else's workout clothes)
Morn and Starfire-
I'll be joining you with rebounding soon. I'm planning on purchasing one.
My exercise routine is about to change beginning on Monday. I think it's time to kick it up a notch. I've fasted off and on quite a bit since last month. Now, I'm going to have to rebuild muscle.... I'll be doing some work at the gym and some at home.
Happy Happy Joy Joy

For those of you who rebound...
I have had a great rebounder for about 4 months now and don't use it... ever. And I NEED to bc my lymphs are swollen and my circulation is poor. Thing is ... I get bored. What do you do, just jump for 30 minutes up and down? Are there any good DVD's out there for rebounding?

Despite not checking in, due to limited access to the Internet...., I've actually been exercising thanks to the motivation from this thread!
Often, after six grueling hours of housecleaning, all I do is half-hour of walking, but that's enough to get my heart rate up and relax my body with the pendulum arm swinging at the same time.
And I'm doing a little bit of some wimpy work outs at the gym too. Just trying to get my money's worth out of membership!
I've committed to swiming twice a week with a friend.
I'm trying. It's hard! but rewarding.......

Excercise has been consistent with bikram and an hour or more of walking every day. Yesterday I did TWO back to back bikram classes for a total of 3 straight hours of hot, sweaty glory! Then I went again this a.m.
I will be out of town from tomorrow till tuesday. The family I nanny for are taking me to Nantucket with them on their vacation so I can watch the baby. So that means no Bikram and no internet, but I do plan on walking the baby every day and bringing my yoga DVD's with me to do in the a.m. Wish me luck! I don't know what I am going to eat there....

Hello Everyone!
Today, I ended up walking the doggie and just walking around instead of doing the stairs. I bought her (doggie, Angel) a new leash and harnesss and we'll test it out in the morning for a more challenging walk.

I am seeing more improvement in the flexability of my legs now. I went to the doctor about the hammertoes, but she knows very little about that. My husband ordered something off of ebay that should show up here in a few days that should help as they are specifically for that. Then I should be able to walk with my walker again without so much pain! Right now, the only exercise I am getting are the ones my husband and I do twice a day for about 20-25 minutes each set.
I have noticed that my leg and stomach muscles are getting much stronger and I am also working on my shoulders. Overall, I think my muscles are getting a good workout on a daily basis.
Now, if only the scales would show some weight loss. It is looking as though, I have only lost 8 pounds in the past 6 months and that includes the time I spent in the hospitals. I am taking meds for my thyroid and wonder if that might explain why I am unable to lose weight! Of course I was unable to lose any weight before I had the stroke and was using a natural medication for the thyroid! I have been trying to lose weight for most of the past year or so to no avail. For some reason losing 8 pounds after trying for over a year is disappointing.
Thanks for letting me spout off about this.
Today’s exercise: 1 hour bike ride
I took a long bike ride cause the weather was just beautiful outside (warm and sunny). :)
Northernstars - hang in there I know how discouraging it can be when you don't see the scale move. The main thing is You have the right mindset by not giving up and keeping at it. 8 pounds isn't a lot over a year but it is 8 pounds less than you used to weigh so view it as a win. Also even if you lose nothing you didn't gain right? Hopefully soon you will see more success after you are able to get around better.:)

Northernstars-Most Americans GAIN that much each year so if you wanna see the glass 1/2 full think of it as a 16 pound loss right? ;) At any rate, How do you FEEL? Are you feeling more vibrant, energetic, etc???? We tend to obsess more about the scales (I am guilty of this too!) and not truly attune ourselves to our body. Try this. Lying down relax your entire body from toes to forehead little by little. Think about these body parts while releasing your tension. Feel it leave your body. Then think about how you feel now compared to say a year or so ago. Do you feel better? worse? or the same. Chances are you feel better even though you have been through a lot. I am speaking from my own experiences. I have my discouraging moments where I feel some self pity but try to snap out of it by looking how far I've come. Good luck, keep your chin up!
As for me. I had a 1 hour Reiki session today and feel incredible. She helped open up some tense channels and I am moving so much better now! The doctor told me crutches for 2 weeks but I switched to a cane after 2 days and haven't used that since day 7! I cannot wait to get the staples out as they are really irritating and pinching my skin. Other than that I am feeling pretty good. 1/4 tm walk and 30 minute sauna this a.m. That helps a lot.
((off topic)) I would like to post the picture I took of my "metal hardware" but do not know how to make it smaller than the 2KB that is acceptable here. Can anyone help me? I am not as knowledgeable on the computer software as I could be...:o Have a great evening!

HELLO EVERYONE!
I hope all is well and that your Sunday is going the way you want. I didn't post yesterday but I just walked 3 short walks yesterday; I walked one with myself and two short walks with the doggie. I'm off from working out today...
Have a great day!

I can help. You can email the pic to me and I'll resize it and send it back.
I finally finished a large work project on Friday. It was keeping me very busy and also stressing me out because it took longer than expected. The stress led to lack of sleep, which led to green tea, which led to black tea, which led to coffee, which led to cooked food! Ha ha! It's funny now, but at the time it was really hard to be back into old patterns.
I'm on day two of an orange juice fast now. So far the fasting hasn't interfered with exercise. Yesterday and today I got to surf at my favorite spot, which only breaks in the fall and winter.

Your encouragement really means a lot to me! It is so frustrating to have a body that forgot how to do SO much and it just isn't getting back nearly as fast as I wanted or expected.
ALso, I am enjoying my RAW salads so much and just finished another one for lunch! I did some shopping yesterday and hopefully have enough variety to fix some good meals. I have several types of seeds hanging now waiting to sprout. My husband and I made up a nice batch of juice yesterday and I am going to make some flax seed crackers and use up the leftover pulp so I won't lose the fiber. The manna bread turned out good and is nearly gone.
I also ordered some raw almonds and several other things we just don't have in our area.
I hope those hammer toe helpers show up tomorrow so I can get out of this wheelchair! I really make a horrid invalid! Now, I really have to work on regaining my balance. If I can get the balance back I should be able to walk decently.
In the meantime, my exercises continue to help me improve! It has now been just over 6 months since I had that stroke, and they say that you get most of what you are going to get back within the first six months. That being the case I think I am fairly lucky that I have gotten back as much as I have, but I want it all back! So I will continue to work at it until I am walking like I used to do.
Thanks again for all the support and encouragement!

Well, I dare say I'm keeping up with my exercise goals about nine out of ten days. That's reasonable, considering how slack I've been. I'd like to push myself more but am doing well to take baby steps. My exercise yesterday was to go out disco dancing! That was fun.
Actually, that was funny. I went to a local 'fest and my friend and I were out on the dance floor with four other people in front of several hundred people. My friend starts to bust out all of these hilarious disco moves while I'm bopping around. Then later I went to the eating area and there's this HUGE screen. Another friend who was working there tells me everyone was watching us; we were directly in front of the camera!

It's a beautiful Aloha Morning Rawbies... no walking today -- since its Monday... it's 5 hours of hula... and kUmz just upped it to 6 hours of hula starting this week.... aaaackkkk... my legs are cramping just thinking of six hours of duck walk, dancing, bending, swaying....eeekkkk... I'll be fine... I"ll be fine... whew... of course I do have one hour repreive sort've ... since the beginners class I'm more helping teach than working out. (we do work out - but compared to what I'm used to -- it's very easy and light! so it's kinda like a regenerate myself break!) :D
I'll tell ya ... since I've taken off 51 pounds ~ hula really is so much better though. I'm able to move better, I'm not out of breath, my heart doesn't pound and hurt like it used to, and I don't perspire as much. All that extra weight -- I used to be soaked ~ drenced with sweat after each dance... Now - I perspire - but its a more 'normal' ... healthy perspiration.
Before when I was carrying around so much extra weight - the workouts were exhausting... absolutely demolished me.... now - they are still exhausting - but in a different way - I can feel my muscles working - I can feel my leg muscles being challenged and strengthened, I feel my hips being worked deep in the muscles (jeepers... I didn't even know there were muscles there!! ;) lol!!) and instead of heart experiencing stress and pain during workouts... now I can feel my upperbody also getting strong - my arms, my abs... even my back feels like its strengthening....
AND... since going raw - my memory and ability to retain the movements of the dances has improved VASTLY. I am learning quicker...thinking clearer, and I am no longer feeling discouraged about my abilities and my future as a dancer.... RAW RAWKS BABY!!!

Today I worked and afterwork I took a walk with my daughter as she rode her bike next to me. Not a whole lot but at least it was something. I am really tired today since I am fasting and didn't get a lot of sleep yesterday.
Starfire - You go girl! That is so awesome that you are seeing such a major difference in hula losing those 50 pounds. Make sure you write it down in your blog somewhere so you don't forget. Just a reminder cause we never want to go back there again do we!

Back from Nantucket. It would have been nicer if I wasn't there to nanny the entire time, and man oh man I was missing my fruit, green smoothies, and Bikram yoga... okay, and I missed the internet, too:rolleyes: I did walk for about 5 miles each day, give or take. The baby loves his stroller... lucky for me.
Sounds to me like everyone is doing great. Starfire, every post I read of yours makes me want to move to Hawaii (we have family in Maui). Morn, how is it that you find the time and energy to work full time, be a full time mom and still hit the gym? Is it being raw that gets you through it all?
Glad to be back, keep up the hard work everyone!

It is really rough trust me! My house is a wreck most of the time. I just barely cover getting the basics done, like laundry and dishes. But I have made exercise a priority and even though I don't have time for it I MAKE time for it (at the expense of other things). A lot of times I just work out at home though cause it takes less time than working out at the gym. I feel like it is a treat when I actually get to go to the gym! Oh and yes eating raw allows me not to have to sleep as much at night so I have more time and energy.

I haven't had much time to get on the net lately...I am really behind in this statistics class and so I'm trying to get back on track. I didn't do anything today aside from casual walking and so I'll use my Saturday make-up day....

Thanks Moncha! I'm impressed with Miss Morn myself. It's amazing what the body will do for you when you treat it right. Anyway, I forgot to post for yesterday. I did 30 minutes on the elliptical machine last night at the gym since I was already on campus. I got a feeling I'll wander into the gym tonight also (probably around 10 p.m. again)...
Have a Fantastic Friday!!!
