I am about 7 weeks into RAW and the weight loss was very good in the beginning. However, I am now gaining ! ! ! I am not eating more or differently. Another side to the story is that I have had to stop my exercise and perhaps that was the weight loss but the exercise had never caused weight loss previously.

For the first month I had diarrhea and blamed it on detox. When the diarrhea stopped, so did the weight loss.

Has this happened to anyone . . . just taking a break from weight loss? Hopefully, someone can tell me to just be patient and it will start again!

Hey there! Yes, it will start again - eventually, if you stick to 100% raw. Drink green smoothies and also water.
As far as stopping the exercise, why not try just moving in other ways? Not a hard core, kick booty, intense workout, but walking around the block. Up and down the steps a few more times a day. Standing in place and marching. Just moving it will help "move" things along. Stretching. Take a chair. Sit down. Stand up. Sit down, stand up. Sit down, stand up. Try that for five times, then increase your times you do it. Another thing - stop weighing yourself. You will drive yourself nuts. Your body is shifting "stuff" around. It's changing and changing for the good. Give it time. It will happen. You didn't gain the weight in 7 weeks, you ain't gonna lose it that fast either. Trust me.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

The exercise problem is that I made the mistake of working too hard, hurt my knee, now I am involved in doctor appointments, preparation for a procedure to repair the miniscus. So anything that involves my legs is not recommended at the present time and probably won't be until 3 or 4 weeks after the procedure. I am discouraged, if you can't read between the lines. Will hopefully get the last pre-op procedure done tomorrow. This pre-op stuff has been going on for three days now. Then the procedure will be next Wednesday.

I think it is the stress of dealing with all of this STUFF, but I am struggling for the first time staying RAW. I am doing it, but not easily. And at the same time no weight loss. And you are right . . . I am doing much better at staying off the scales, but I did weigh today.

I have been telling myself that it is simply a stage my body is going through with RAW. And hopefully that is true.

Thanks so much for your encouragement.

Oh gosh! I'm so sorry about your knee - DARN!!! Hopefully that will heal quickly - probably will w/you eating raw and then you'll be so much better and able to move more. Just don't give up. That's the worst thing you could do is to go back to bad eating habits. Your body WILL health quicker eating foods that contain their own enzymes (raw, living foods) because it won't have to tap into IT's supply and can concentrate on things like healing and repairing, etc. It is so very important to keep focused at this point. You'll get there. Don't worry about the weight. That will come off. Concentrate on healing. Eating well and healing. You can do this. You've done it for 7 weeks and that's a great start! Keep it up. I'll be cheering you on!!!

I was wondering this myself. I lost 22lbs but now it seems as though I'm stuck. Hmm Maybe it'll kick back in soon.

Glad to know I am not the only one. It is probably the stress of the knee situation and my life as I know it being put on hold! One would think from the way I am acting and feeling this is a life threatening situation!

I am hungry all the time and that is no doubt stress. In the beginning I was not hungry, but rather felt totally satisfied.

Today is a stress-echo test as a part of pre op and then I will be finished I think until the procedure on Wednesday. And then maybe I can get my head cleared and move ahead. Never had to deal with a lot of health stuff and it is a challenge, but this too shall pass . . .

Thank you all so much.

So sorry to have been a whiner in the last post I made.

During pre op with our General Practitioner in preparation for a procedure on my knee coming up next Wednesday, the EKG showed that I had experienced a heart attack. That really upset me and I just could not believe it. Anyway, because of that, I was required to have a Stress Echo test today to determine the damage to my heart, etc.

When I finished and came out of the dressing room, the Cardiologist was waiting for me. He was just blown away! He said "You passed with flying colors. I have never seen anyone your age do so well. What are you doing?" I told him I walk about 30 minutes or more 5 days a week, and that I walk as fast as I can possibly walk up and down hills in the walking trail in our County Park. He said, "well, whatever you are doing just keep it up and don't change anything." I said "So, did I have a heart attack in the past?" He said that those small EKG computerized machines used in doctors' offices are not always accurate because they have a tendency to over-react and that I certainly had never had any heart problems. I DID NOT TELL HIM I HAVE BEEN RAW FOR THE PAST TWO MONTHS. THOUGHT I WOULD QUIT WHILE AHEAD!

Due to the fact that I am never sick and am very proud of my good health, I let that situation stress me out yesterday. BUT, today is a different story and I am ecstatic again and looking forward to getting this little knee procedure out of the way so I can hit the walking trail again.

Thanks for your patience with me . . . I generally am not a cry baby and will try to never be one again.

You are a sweet heart, Styersky..

Don't apologise..You can feel supported here.. guarenteed..!!!

Gosh, i would have been stressed also if my doctor had told me i had had a heart attack.. good grief !!
so glad it was all just a big mistake..!!

Infact, i think that i was 'feeling ' your discouragement a bit..
I began a thread entitled '10,000 step challenge'..

BUT i cancelled my 'challenge', because i knew you were going to be 'sort of out of commission'
( but i know you will figure out a way to keep active, knowing you.. even if it means doing chin ups on a bar between rooms !!)
I did not want to make you feel worse..!!
I thought i would take up the 'challenge' again, when you are 'up and at em again..!!)

but i might do it sooner, as long as it does not make you feel 'antsy' to recover.. You WILL need time to heal your miniscus..!!
As a friend and supporter, perhaps i will put off the challenge for a couple weeks.

this 10,000 steps idea is such a good and simple one..
You can include some intense time within the 10,000 steps..But you do not need to kill yourself ( or hurt your knees) climbing hills.
All that is required is to do the 10,000 steps each day..

weight loss is guarenteed, as long as you stay on a good diet..(*which we are on)..

oh, the other idea i read somewhere on this forum is that there was a lady who hit a weight loss plateau and she did the oil pulling thing and
it 're triggered ' her weight loss again.

Another possibility..

take care
alice

Hmmm . . . you and I talked about oil pulling earlier. May need to think more about that, like I said I would do!

I like the idea of the 10,000 step challenge and wondered why you pulled it. I asked the surgeon how long I would have to wait before I could go back to walking. He said we could talk about that when he removes the stitches but I think he said 2 to 4 weeks or 3 to 4 weeks or something like that. I have a feeling he is going to put me off as long as he thinks he can . . . just because he knows me and that I sometimes do not accept limitations well.

Our local TV station sponsors a 10,000 step challenge once a year. So I know about it. I twice bought the little monitor thing that counts your steps and neither would work. You may need to inform us where we can get a dependable one.

It would not bother me, but maybe motivate me, if you start the challenge now. I will absolutely follow doctor's orders. We have known him a while and he did my husband's knee replacement. We trust him and love him like family. He walked in the room where we were waiting one day this week and got into a conversation Wayne and I were in the middle of . . . more like a disagreement. I was going to order my trampoline and Wayne was telling me I had to get one with a support bar and I disagreed and told him he acted like I was old or something. And in walked the doctor. Well, you know where that conversation went. I now have a trampoline with a bar. But will wait until doctor's approval before using it.

I really like the idea of 10,000 step challenge and think it would be good for all of us.

This forum is so good . . . I appreciate all of you so much. I need all the support I can get. My husband is wonderful and very supportive and I have no other family. I am not very open to share all these type of feelings with friends . . . they already think I am a fanatic on diet, weight loss and exercise!

Good !! Your Doctor does seem like a good man !! you are fortunate..
It is nice to have someone to consult who you trust..!!
And, in your case, dear Styersky, it is good you have someone who keeps your enthusiam in check..!!!

you also said:

friends . . . they already think I am a fanatic on diet, weight loss and exercise!

I think perhaps we all fall into this boat, or many or us, (me included), for sure.!!..(The idea that we are nutty..or have lost our marbles or such.is a unanimous one as far as friends and probably family also, goes...)
( well, whether we have or not remains to be seen..he he)

take care..
will repost the challenge , then.
(especially now that you have promised to be a good girl, styersky)

Well I am just about ready to get back on my Treadmill now. I am just waiting for it to cool off a bit. Way to hot right now for me to do that. But it is going to break this next week. Then I will start off slow and work my way back up to 2 or 3 miles or more when I get use to it again. I sure miss being on there for sure. It really helps with weightloss too. So are all these posts in the over 50 Area? I have not been on alot this week onkind of the US Open Tennis going on in New York. I watch it every year too. It goes for about a week more now too. You will see more of me over here after that. There are alot of us over 50 on this board too. Doug in Calif....:) :)

I would recommend green smoothies all the way. I too had a few weeks where my weight loss kind of slowed and I was eating way too many nuts! I started doing green smoothies and dropped more weight.

Weight Loss . . . been a problem all of my adult life. Just could not deal with the hunger required to lose weight!

In addition to RAW, the book by Dr. Young "The PH Miracle for Weight Loss" is fantastic. There is no hunger for me when following his principles. All of his recipes are not RAW but most are. It is very easy to follow his plan and stay RAW and that is what I am doing.

After taking a break somewhat due to knee surgery I am now totally back into RAW, etc., using this book as a reference. I was almost totally RAW but not quite and the weight loss stopped. Now I am incorporating RAW with acid alkaline balance and feel great and really pleased with results.

I am so encouraged about the weight loss . . . just had to share. When I am able to start my walking every day again it will be even better! That is about a month away.

Hope someone can be encouraged and motivated! Has anyone else used his book successfully?

I have tried green smoothies and just can't seem to get into that. I do a green drink in the morning made with lemonade (with stevia) and Alissa's green mix and that seems to be doing ok for me. I have a taste problem with greens and no sweet fruit. The sweet fruit and greens just do not seem to agree with me. I like the green drink because I can drink it. The smoothie is always too thick, not sweet enough, etc., etc., etc.

I eat nuts every day but not a lot. I do eat at least one avocado every day and that seems to help with weight loss.

I have been mixing greens with cacao in my morning smoothie and having incredible results!

We live in the boonies and do not have a HFS of any size. Cacoa is not familiar to me without ordering online which I do not do much of. I do not know how similar it is to cocoa. Do not think cocoa is raw and I know it is an acid food and contains caffeine, both of which I try to avoid.

Maybe you can tell me more about cacoa?

There are differing opinions on cacao. No, it is not the same thing as cocoa. Very different. Cacao makes me feel great and I hear that it is supposed to suppress the appetite, which in my opinion it does!
