I'm devestated! I thought I had found the end all be all to my raw lifestlye! That one thing that would keep me raw for life if I could eat it! Manna bread!! So, the guy at the health food store is a raw foodist, and he eats it, and he said it's considered raw.....but then (and I knew it tasted too good to be true) a woman on the site said that it's sprouted grain, cooked at 425 degrees for 30 minutes, and so it's not raw....
I'm begging someone out there to counter that argument and tell me that it is! Please?? Please!!!
In any case, it is sprouted grains, all natural, so if I did continue eating it, I don't think it's that unhealthy........I hate to say it, but I might be a 98% raw foodist....:(

It's not raw and since it has been cooked, I don't think it could be considered live either.

Have you tried raw (dehydrated) breads?

bellabella, I understand how you feel devasted about the manna bread. When you get a dehydrator, I highly recommend the Cinnamon Raisin Bread, posted by justinesmith. It's not exactly like manna bread, but for me it satisfies my craving for manna bread. In fact, I told my husband, I don't even need to buy manna bread again. He loves it too! I do it a little different, instead of making small loaves, I make individual slices. In case you are interested, I got the Snackmaster Express dehydrator at Wal-Mart online for $44.88, plus tax and shipping. It was here in about 4 days, and has been working out just fine. So without further rambling, here is the recipe posted by justinesmith.
Cinnamon raisin bread
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey everyone! I thought I'd pass on one of our favorite recipies:
2 cups pecans
1 cup dried apricots (soaked for at least 2 hours)
1 cup raisins (soaked for at least 2 hours)
1 Tablespoon honey
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 cup water
Throw everything into the food processor (you can do nuts first if you want, we like our bread a bit chunky) except 1/2 cup of the soaked raisins and blend until dough like
Mix remaining raisins in by hand
Form into loaf and dehydrate for 4 hours then flip and dehydrate for 12. Bread should come out chewy and delicious!!
I usually start mine a few hours before bed so we have warm bread in the morning for breakfast. The bread ususally lasts about 10 minutes!
Hope you enjoy!!

THANK you Marcia......I've really got to get a dehydrator. Maybe I will treat myself this weekend. That isn't too expensive. I'll definitely write the recipe down as well...

And, further, I mean....it isn't that it is BAD for you: it's amazing compared with what most people eat. I wonder if the RAW perspective that ANYTHING cooked is literally BAD. But there has to be some relativity there? I'm going to post a question on this...

I'm glad you mentioned that dehydrator. I've been eyeing it on walmart.com for 2 weeks. After I read this, I ordered it. :)

Do you know what brand the you've seen at Wal*Mart one is? Maybe I can find it someplace else. I'm looking to buy a second dehydrator and want something a bit cheaper.

I recall being told that the Manna bread, while not raw, was indeed considered to be a living food. Does anyone else know about this?

I met a guy in a HFS here on Vancouver Island (BC canada) and we started talking about raw. He went on about Manaa bread actually, and he said he worked in England making them, he was really proud of this (!!), actually its pretty cool, and he raved about them.. and
He considers them living foods...
Food for thought..
I contacted the company directly via phone and they said they cook manna bread at 200 degrees so it is technically not raw. However, I think if it is a food that helps you stay raw otherwise until you can get a dehydrator than don't beat yourself up. I used to eat it a lot in the earlier days as I was learning to transition. I still have 3 loaves in my freezer (they have been in there for months uneaten)! So eventually what I am saying is I thought I couldn't live without bread in the beginning and now it isn't a necessary part of my diet anymore. Do I love bread still. Of course but there are some good raw alternatives like onion bread and the mediterraean bread. But even those I rarely make since it takes a lot of time. And I am always short on time.
