ok.. we have decided to resurrect the challenge..

the 10,000 step challenge is so simple .(.why even a cave man can do it.. he he)

just try to ensure that you take 10,000 steps every day, or as close as you can to it.

You can fit it into any busy lifestyle.. infact , you really do not need to put much extra or extraordinary effort into it.
All you need is a pedometer ( little gizmo which counts your steps.)
You can get the most basic of pedometers, although some people have found that the real cheap ones sometimes do not work.

i got mine here. I got the base model which measures steps and distance.
mine is the SW 401 Y

here is all the info and a website you can go to to learn more ( what more to learn is there, really?)or to purchase one of their pedometers.

I can vouch for the quality of their pedos,.
consumer reports , i think, recommended them.

cheerio, all.
hope people will decide to participate.

i had mine on today, but for some reason, it fell off its perch.. One requisite is that the pedometer be on a waistband.. for best results.. mine was in a pocket so i did not get an accurate reading.

if you do not get enough steps in your busy lifestyle, you can make up for the deficit in the evenings on a rebounder, or around the house or block or field.. whatever floats your boat..

anyone up for the challenge?

i suppose we could post on following days to report in as to progress, or whatever.
the thread remains open for subsequent interest or lack thereof.

Hi Alice.....what a great challenge!! Just over a year ago I used to walk about20 miles/week. For the last year I haven't walked at all but started again today! Seeing your challenge was an inspiration. I only did a half hour and will only be able to do that amount for several weeks at least, maybe a month but will work back up as much as possible. Went to put my pedometer on and the batteries were dead...will get a new one today!!

Just wanted to wish you the best of luck...and say Yeah for you Lady!!!!:)

You Go too, Glimr..!!!
Thank YOU for the encouragement.!

yes, a 'challenge' or two does help us keep in focus..especially an easy one like this one.

we just have to remember to put on that old pedometer in the morning.
( seems to be my biggest present challenge.)
( i seem to develop temporary amnesia in the morning when it is time to put on my pedo..)
hmmm..
cheerio
keep up the good work, Glimr.!

ps.. come on "vegan for life"Lucy..
fellow enthusiast..!

come on folks....
come on y'all.. be sports..!!
i know you get enough excercise doing everything else you do, but this is a way of making SURE you get enough.
(without hardly thinking of the task)
...(except putting the little gizmo on in the morning...hurdle number one)
(where has my memory gone??)

I am also trying for as many steps as possible. RawTruth got me spurred on a couple of years ago and it kinda died off completely since. Anyhow here I go again.

After a year of just reading/lurking, I'm here now. I've been a steady walker, but this summer my college-aged son has been home with many issues and my "me" time has fallen away. This is perfect to get me back to it. I've dusted off my pedometer. I intend to to use my treadmill and walk to and from work M-F. Thanks for the push!! Walk on!

Yayy..

walk on to you also, Bonnie.

by the way, i wanted to mention to you all that, well, 10,000 steps is really quite a lot..

do not be daunted by numbers..

This is a fun thing, after all..

Please, i hope no one gets stressed by thinking : oh my,i did not make 10,000 steps during my walks today.

i have always found, to date, that it is a challenge..to walk 10,000 steps a day..i have a rebounder and usually need to make up some steps by rebounding.. A treadmill is also excellent..(do not have one of those).
But one of the pluses of the challenge is that you can step anywhere and everywhere, and build up your step count. Another friend and i step even when we are ironing.
Well, it keeps us motivated to move.. That is the main thing about the idea which is so cool..
As long as we do not get fanatical..( speaking to my own fanatical self here)(and anyone else who has such like tendencies!! he he)

step along !

My steps today total 11,882. I'm lucky because I like to use my treadmill for 3 miles first thing every morning and then I work 1-1/2 miles from home, so if I walk to work and home I total about 6 miles. I feel like I did something good today.

I agree about no pressure. I have walked for a while and I try to average 10,000 steps a day for a week. Some days I do a little more, some days a little less. Some days nothing and then make it up over a few days, but I TRY to do 70,000 a week.

It's fun. I always remind myself that I walk because I like to and because it makes me feel good. It's not something I have to do.

Step on friends!

I'm new to posting and I wonder why I'm the only one checking in. I can't be the only one walking ... can I??? Did the thread go somewhere else? But then, no one's checking in so no one will answer that.

I'll do this one more day and then feel all alone ...

Yesterday my steps totalled 15,956. That puts me at about 28,000 for two days, but I'm off to visit mom and dad this weekend. I'll be able to use a treadmill there for about 6,000 steps a day, but I'll need the extra 8,000 steps I've got to help me average 10,000 per day for the week.

No posting until Monday when I get back from the weekend. I hope someone else is still walking with me ....

Y'all have inspired me! I think I will find my pedometer--I haven't used it since I had a bout of sciatica a couple of years ago. Now that I am raw, it would be interesting to see if my steps have increased (due to more energy).

When I used the pedometer before, I was amazed at how many steps I took at work!!
