Vacation/Blender

I live in Maryland and am going to Fl on vacation for a week soon. While the condo has a cheap blender I'm trying to figure out how I can take my Vitamix. Am I nuts or what? :rolleyes: Any ideas or feedback from people, esp experiences? If I must I'll go without green smoothies for a week, but if I can I'd love to be sippin' on them while on the beach. :D

Zuri, I'm not expert on green smoothies but I do have Victoria Boutenko's Green for Life book and from the recipes I find there, it doesn't look as if a Vitamix is a must-have to make them. I would think that even a cheap blender would suffice especially if it's only for a week.

I've been making smoothies in personal blenders like the Hamilton which are pretty weak and they've always worked out great.

So far since going raw, all of my trips have been road trips, but there will be some multiple air travel in the next few months. I'm wondering how I will deal with that too (for trips longer than 3 days).

Take an expensive Vitamix thru luggage? Hmm, I'd be a little nervous about that one - not to mention space issues. I've been contemplating the same thing - but going camping.

Do you have a Macy's by you? They're having a big sale this weekend - including a small mixer with attachments that's $25. My sister has one and says it works fine (no Vitamix for her). I was thinking of picking one up for vacations - small, inexpensive, and no worrying.

Worth a try I figure. Just a suggestion.

I was wondering the same thing.....i'm leaving in 3weeks on a plane trip and worried that i wouldnt be able to make my green smoothies for a whole week!
i worry that my blender will be damaged in my suitcase cuz i know they go thru everything....and i really dont think it would be permissable to carry on the plane w/the blades and all!!! so i was thinking the same thing, to get a cheap blender (smaller,personal size) and pak it well in my suitcase so hopefully it wont get damaged.....and just shop for food when i get there!

I purchased one of those backpack with wheels. I put it in there and wheel it around. It doesn't move around much in there. Maybe that will help?

Thanks, I would like something to pack it in so it doesn't move around, and I can tuck it in an overhead compartment without worrying. I just don't wanna feel like im traveling with a hot cup of tea! :D I def. don't think packing it in a suitcase will work.

I have burned out four new blenders - nice ones - doing green smoothies till I got my used Vitamix off ebay. I would do the vitamix as a carry on - it couldn't be viewed as dangerous. I couldn't get the blades out to hurt anybody with them and the expense if it was damaged! I just replaced the pitcher/lid/blade unit to mine and with the plunger and shipping it cost me about 120$

GREAT! Looking forward to carrying it on. What a way to start a vacation. Plus I can take some with me for the plane ride. Mmmmmm
