OIL PULLING INSTRUCTIONS:
NOTE: These are instructions from India in which only 2 types of oil can be used. However, as you will read below in our Reader Feedback section, people are experimenting with different oils, adding anti-bacterial and anti-viral oil essences. Soon we might have a purist vs. renegade oil pulling battle!
INSTRUCTIONS: First thing in the morning, before brushing your teeth, eating or drinking, take 1 TBSP of either sesame or sunflower oil. Put the oil in your mouth, tilt your chin up and slowly swish, suck, chomp and pull through the teeth. Do this for at least 10 minutes. 15 - 20 minutes is better. You want the oil to become a thin, white foam when you finally spit it out. If it's still yellow, you haven't done it long enough.
You can do this 2 more times during the day if you want to detox faster. Make sure you do it on an empty stomach, however. Spit it out in the toilet when your mouth is full and rinse your mouth out well.
Follow with 2 - 3 glasses of water.
DO NOT SWALLOW THE OIL.
It now contains parasites and bacteria!
DO NOT GARGLE IN THE THROAT.
THE OIL IS MEANT TO BE SWISHED IN THE MOUTH ONLY.
DO IT SLOWLY.
HOW IT WORKS:
The oil pulls all mucous, bacteria and toxins from your body through your saliva. According to Ayurvedic medicine, mucous is a poison that must be removed.
Note #1:
Keeping the chin tilted up makes sure the oil gets to the back molars.
Note #2:
The old school says that only sesame and sunflower oils produce favorable results. However, our readers report success using other oils too.
Note #3:
If after meals, wait at least 4 hours before you Oil Pull. After drinking, wait 1 hour.

Note #4:
A worsening of symptoms is an excellent indication that the disease/ailment is being cured.
Note #5:
Do not stop Oil Pulling if you feel aggravated symptoms or heightened side effects after a day or two. Your body is healing.
Note #6:
Will your dental fillings fall out? It's possible but highly unlikely unless there is pre-existing damage or loose fillings.
The oil will start to thin out after a few minutes because saliva is constantly being mixed in and swished about.

Thank you so much for the information. I'm thinking about doing it but have some questions. What other oils are used instead of refined sunflower oil and sesame oil? Does it matter what kind of oil you use? How do you NOT swallow it especially for 15-20 minutes? Also, I have 2 small children, so would I have to wake up before they do (5:30ish) and do it before they wake up? What do you do while you are oil pulling? Check email?

Thanks so much,
Shelly

hello, stasher from a household of pullers let me say: you may gag at first then you get used to it

we live with 6 year old twins, we swish every morning while we get juice and breakfast ready and put around the house, the kids are totally adjusted to the quiet time...younger than that may be harder of course

Thank you for attempting to clear this up Spicyfull!

This is from ancient Ayurvedic medicine. They have centuries of experience telling them that sesame and sunflower work best. Sunflower is cheaper than olive oil at my local HFS so I went with that. Other oils may be used but there is not a long history of documentation of results with other oils.

Ok, so I tried oil pulling this morning. I used organic cold pressed sesame oil and pulled for 15 minutes. My husband was so nice to get up at 6am and read to the kids while I did my OP. Since they are so young (4 and 2) I can't just not talk to them for 15-20 minutes.
anyway, I felt like 1 TB was so much and I wanted to swallow all the time. Do any of you have the problem of wanting to swallow? I ended up swallowing a few times. After 15 minutes I couldn't take it anymore (since I swallowed a few times, my stomach was not too happy I had to spit it out). I spit it out in the toilet and the oil was thicker but was still yellow. I guess I should have done it longer, but I couldn't have it in my mouth anymore.
I would love your advice!

Thanks, Shelly

stasher -

way cool to your hubby.

start with 1.5 teaspoons and work your way up to a tablespoon. you get used to it.

also, swallowing tiny bits is ok. the smaller amount at first may help you resist the swallowing. it may be the volume for you.

good luck!

I tried this a.m. with virgin coconut oil. I read where the taste is slightly better than other oils and works on the whitening the teeth faster. It was hard, not impossible, but didn't make the 10 minutes as it was so thick in the beginning. I will do this again tonight. Does anyone have any tips on which oil is the easist to handle, i.e. taste and thickness. I'm interested to see if this works, because well, it sounds a little out there.

Thanks Cat! Yeah, it felt like there was way too much volume in my mouth from the very beginning. I'll try to do it tonight before I go to bed with much less liquid and I'll tell you how it goes. :) Shelly

I tried this again this morning and used only 1 tsp of sesame oil and I kept swallowing. How do you NOT swallow? I don't know if I can do this. I was telling myself to relax and not swallow, but I just couldn't do it. Did anyone have this problem in the beginning?
Thanks,
Shelly

i find that when i get distracted and stop my jaws moving or swishing it around, i tend to swallow more. if i keep swishing and making chewing motions - slow, here! not hard to tire your cheek muscles, i forget about swalling and just keep it moving.

 Well, I tried it again this morning and I kept swallowing. I don't think I'll try it again. It's just really hard not to swallow. I don't know how you all do it...I'm very impressed.
