Hello,
I have a question regarding the rate of weightloss I am experiencing. In the past, I have found it near impossible to lose weight. Since going raw (first only partially), I have lost 14 lbs - with 8 of those being since last Friday. This seems really fast. Is this normal? I have quite a bit to lose, and I would like (if it is healthy) to keep this rate up.

Thanks,

Noodle

I don't know what you ate before, but losing "weight" and losing fat are very different.
You could have cleansed your colon out thoroughly by eating raw, and you're not carrying around excess...*ahem* weight of that stuff around :)

I agree with SmilingRawDancer.....after recovering from a slip, I lost 8lbs. in 4 days.....impossible for it to all have been fat. 1 lb. of fat equals 3500 cals......even eating purely raw, and limited fats, there's no way I was consuming that much less, or burning that many calories to create that kind of deficit! It DOES feel good though, doesn't it?! I know we're not supposed to take heed of scale numbers, but in the beginning, it's always nice to see that decrease, even if it IS mostly water weight! Also, I think the more weight you have to lose, the more you'll notice a drop, in the beginning, depending also on how you were eating prior to raw. The worse your SAD diet, the more of an impact eating raw will have on you. I know that safe, long lasting fat loss is about 2 lbs. per week.....although, many here have lost more than that on raw, so I don't know if all the same rules apply! I'm sure as your body adjusts, you'll notice you're still losing, but not at such a rapid rate. But congrats on the loss so far, and good luck on your journey!

I really need to lose about 95 lbs total (down 14 or so already). On a typical day, I start off with some fresh juice (green or carrot/beet/spinach etc). After I workout at 5:00am, I will have a smoothie - either green or fruit with coconut milk. I might have a piece of fruit or an apricot "cookie" from Alissa's book for a snack in between classes while the students are changing classes, for lunch a green salad with olives, tomatoes, sprouts, avocado, olive oil dressing (herbed), and for dinner it varies - usually another salad along with some more fat and protein (celery with almond butter, avocado, that walnut/mushroom loaf, beanless falafel), just whatever.

When I am working out, I do mostly cardio on a treadmill or elliptical, sometimes maybe a bike. Then I do a really short round with weights (2 sets of 8 - full-body). I also like working out on my rebounder and with a pilates magic circle or resistence tubes/bands.

I think with raw, the more you need to lose, the quicker you will lose, especially at first. I've noticed that in so many people so far. And this is just my own theory, but I also think the worse your pre-raw diet was, the faster you will lose on raw. I dont know how you ate before so its hard to tell. Enjoy! :)

Keep up the good work noodle - o! I just started raw on Monday and am down 5. I agree with the post saying that in the beginning you do tend to focus on the numbers. For me that has been what encourages me to continue with any weight loss program. But....health is my primary goal.

yeah i agree. im just trying to lose like ten pounds and its quite slow (of course i had been eating too many nuts, dried fruit, grains etc) but if your heavier it will come off faster.

I know we're not supposed to take heed of scale numbersI find that a cloth tape around the middle is a much better measure of body fat. A "girth" measurement is a pretty good indicator of stored fat. After i started raw the first thing I noticed was more energy and the second was a shrinking girth. I took a measurement and since then I have had a continuing steady decrease in girth.

Hey well done. When I first started I lost about 20lbs in one month. Myscale has all the extra measuring gagets and I found I was actually looosing mostly water - carring all the toxins away - first.

Keep up the good work!

I lost a lot of weight also when I went raw. It was very scary because I got really thin. I now weigh about 112-114 depending on the time of day I step on the scale, but it is a very consistant number. I am 5' 4" tall. I am starting a workout program to gain muscle.

It is steady weight loss if you lose 15lbs in 3 weeks time, it is important you stick to some weight loss diet plans (http://www.total-diet.com/category/diet-plans) and you will get desired results.

From what I've read by everyone on this situation is that your body will change, you may loose a ton of weight rather quickly but as you continue your body will adjust and become 'retransformed' into a raw body, in its ideal weight.

while it is highly possible to lose quick amount of weight in the first couple of weeks on the raw food lifestlye, the first 5-10 is water weight and it is also your body adjusting to the new changes. believe me, i should know. the important thing is that you stay raw and don`t stress over the scale. the most important thing is the nutritional benefits that you are doing for you body. the weight loss will happen. i lost 50 pounds so far with this lifestyle with another 50 to go, it will happen for you too.
