Coconut oil as an after~sunburn~ lotion

Today I was driving in my car for 10 minutes, and got a dark red sunburn on my neck and face!!:eek: I have this very very very fair skin that never tans, and I forgot to cover up my neck and face. Heck, I was just driving for crying out loud!!:mad: Guess even going raw won't help my skin take the sun any better..anyway, I used some coconut oil on my neck and face and the sunburn stopped burning and the skin looks less red.

I love this coconut oil stuff. Wonder if it will protect me from sunburn. Does anyone know if coconut oil is a good sunburn protector?

Don't like using chemical sunscreens!!

I use coconut oil everyday as a face and body lotion. I don't use suncreen either (I also have olive skin). If you are going to be in the sun for prolonged periods I would recommend looking into a natural sunscreen like Aubrey's. Especially in the beginning of going raw. It took me some time to actually not use any sunscreen. Also by adding more antioxidant rich foods such as blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, chlorella, spirulina, algae, etc. will help form a layer of protection under your skin.

Aloe vera leaves are awesome too. They really help to soothe the skin if you happen to catch too many rays.:D

I like to use pure unrefined shea butter after being in the sun. It really prevents dryness and peeling.

So how many bugs are atracted to you using these?

I went to an airshow on sunday and I got fried in my face, neck and lips. My arms and legs already had a tan so no worries there. I just rub a sliver of aloe vera planr juice on my face, didn't hurt at all next day. Only my buttom lip is still sore?

I read here recently that being raw helps prevent sunburn. . . .hmmm . . . guess that is not true for all skin types. Also recently the sun prevention creams have been proven to be unhealthy. Try looking at News Target for info on that.
