Hi,
I'm fairly new to raw food and I've been eating raw since June 11 and am on week 12. My sister is on week 15 and about week 9 or 10 she had headaches for 21 days straight and was quite worried. Finally they went away but now today she is on week 15 and got the same headache back and feels nauseous. Could she still be detoxing this far along?
She usually has a shake every morning with spirulina and fruit mixed in, then at lunch it's a nori wrap with veggies, pesto or whatever spread we have, then dinner is usually a big salad with lots of veggies in it. She doesn't eat a lot of nuts but has some here and there.
Last night we had a kale salad mixed with oil, garlic, green onions and tomatores and then another salad with that with salad dressing we made.
I'm just trying to figure out why she isn't feeling well.

I know this is going to be a weird question, but how are her bowel movements? For ME, personally, enemas really helped with my detox headaches. Detox usually comes as a result of toxins not being expelled from the body readily and so, if she is not getting cleaned out enough then she just might need a little bit of "help"...even if she uses an herbal colon cleanse type of thing if the thought of enemas doesn't sit well with her.
But yeah, detoxification is an ongoing process. I mean, when raw fooders get "cold symptoms" then it's still a type of detox as the body is expelling waste via the respiratory system i.e mucous in the nose, coughing up phlegm, sneezing, etc.
Her headaches could also be coming from other things too...stress, work, things in the environment/air, something she's eating that isn't agreeing with her, not enough rest, etc.

1) I assume she has eaten cooked/SAD (i don't know her previous diet before raw) longer than 15 weeks :D so yes it's possible to still be detoxing in various ways.
2) as rawkinlocs said, enemas will help remove the impacted toxins just gathering in her GI tract.
3) could you look at food intolerances? Maybe it happens after she eats a certain food and if she's eating that food daily or even every other day or two there can still be a reaction.

I noticed you listed onions. Sometimes onions and garlic give me migraines.

Rawkinlocs,
Her bowel are small. Her last few days at work have been stressful. She says she feels like she isn't getting everything out of her tummy. Enema scares her a bit but she is willing to try it out or do a colon cleanse.
This morning she was getting mucous in her nose as well.
Okay so the body continues detox? I thought it was just an intial thing and then your body just sort of fixes itself.
Thanks.

dreamrawawlz,
Yes, thanks. Things are clicking in a bit here. She is eating lots of things raw that is she is allergic too. Both her and I were tested at a naturepath a few years back. She can't eat corn and we've been eating lots of it lately. We just discovered how good it is raw and we buy it from the organic farmers and it's to die for.
Do food allergies go away eventually while eating raw? I too have been eating a lot of things I'm allergic too while raw.
Her diet before raw was really bad. Lots of junk food and fats, and over processed stuff. She weighs more than me and has been going through worse detox than I have.

solarliving,
She did eat a lot of garlic yesterday. We use a lot in our raw meals as we love it so that is a possibility. Thanks, I didn't realize it could cause headaches, she eats a lot of onions too.

I have been using a nettie pot with warm salt water and that has really helped my sinus and eliminated allergy-related headaches.
Maybe do a search here on headaches.
Hope she feels better soon.

I'm still detoxing after 2 years!!!
Coffee enemas stimulate the liver (which gets rid of toxins)
Dr William Kelly and Max Gerson who both used raw food to cure cancer discovered that their diets caused very unpleasant detox symptoms unless they used coffee enemas. I think they used about 6 per day.
A liver cleanse would also help.
I'm about to do the cold sheet treatment which is a major way to detox. It sounds quite scary so I've only just got round to doing it. If you google you'll find out how to do it but its probably too extreme.
A Sauna session might also help her.

Doesn't that seem extreme? 2 years of detoxing?? There must be some inefficiency in the body to continue detoxing for 2 years? I agree that you eat processed foods for more than two years, of course, but within a certain period of time, the system is cleansed. You do'nt have to wait the same amount of time that you spent eating SAD foods to cleanse them from your system!
I read somewhere that if you are overweight the toxins are stored in your fat so as long as you have excess fat you can detox.

darlin', I hate to say it but with the pollution on the planet...and the nature of our skin and lungs, we are going to be detoxing our whole life.
inhale/exhale...law of nature.

on re-reading the original post, this sounds like it could be a food allergy. she could maybe eliminate all nuts for a week and then add them in one by one to see if she has a sensitivity????

Not to be gross or HIjack the thread but how do you do an enema or coffee enema?
Her bowel are small. Her last few days at work have been stressful. She says she feels like she isn't getting everything out of her tummy.
My bowels almost always go beserk when I'm stressed. Just thought I'd throw that out there... That part should calm down and normalize when she does.

Here's a link: http://curezone.com/cleanse/enema/#How_do_I_do_an_Enema
You can buy enema bags at pharmacies and the like. HTH.

Thanks everyone for your comments. My sister still has the headache but it is much lighter than it was Monday. She says it's about a 3/10 now. It started the same time as her bad allergies on Monday. I too have had bad allergies all week as well.
Do food allergies eventually go away the longer you are raw?

Yes, she could definitely be going through another detox stage. It is not uncommon for people who have been eating cooked for decades to have several healing crisis' spaced out over several years with stretches of feeling good between. She might want to eat simpler for awhile though to see if it was any combinations that she ate that made her not feel well, just in case.
Blessings,
Audrey
