....I tried, but I cannot, nor do I foresee ever being able to consume a smoothie of vegetables. i think this will be the same for any green soup. I just cannot do it. I tried, and choking it down was....well, enough to put me off raw!!! I love the fruit smoothies, but I'll have to get the veggie nutrients in pure form, with dip or some awesome salad.
I hope I'm not missing out on some miraculous raw benefit in so doing

I don't think Alissa's book mandates green smoothies. Don't sweat it. If you don't like them, don't drink them.
Eat what you like, sticking with raw is way more important than sticking to a specific food choice.

I don't drink green smoothies either... I love them ~ and think they are quite delicious! What did you put in yours? I used the following recipe:

1/2 cup orange juice
1/2 cup water
2 cups baby spinach
1/2 teaspoon honey or agave (or more if you need - my dh uses 2 tablespoons)
6 or 8 strawberries

that was a pretty mild green smoothie by most standards - but quite yummy. I just can't drink them cuz well... (1) I gain weight and (2) the fruit is really not good for me right now.... I seem to be allergic to the sugars in fruit... bummers :o

but if you don't like green smoothies - no worries - it's all good - this lifestyle should be fun and vibrant and filled with joy and adventure! :D

Green smoothies are not really a smoothie of vegetables. It can be but mostly it's a smoothie of fruit with some greens thrown in. You can use the recipe Starfire posted, add more fruit and only 1/4 handful of spinach ~ or less even.

I use 2 cups of oj
2 bananas
1 pint of strawberries
however many greens I want

Oh yeah, I drnk at least one fruit/green smoothie (basically what you've described) a day, and I too love them. I freeze my fruit and it's like a fruit milkshake. But this time I thought I would try;
cherry tomatoes
broccoli
celery
spinach

and I gagged...I just thought it might be a great way to get all those awesome vegetable nutrients into my system! But I think I'll stick to salad.

Hey Bella, Try adding some Avo, cuke, fresh dillweed, lemon, curry , sea salt & some cayenne & you'll have an awesome soup. I could not do it at first, but give it time, you'll be craving them. I have one everyday, minus the broc.!:D

Although my Vitamix does the work & blends it to a nice frothy bundle of energy!;)

Well, I like green smoothies, but I think I would have gagged on that mixture too, especially the broccoli and celery. I typically only put one type of vegetable in my smoothies. So far it's been spinach or kale or red leaf lettuce. I haven't had that many since going raw, but I don't put a lot of different kinds of veggies in them at one time. Maybe two different veggies at the most.

BTW- the Raw Police will not come & get you if you don't do the green smoothies...;)

If you ever want to try a blended veggie one again, the simple GOOD one is a blended salad: spinach or lettuce (lettuce is more mild), celery, bell pepper, tomatoes, anad avocados. You can do the ratios to your own taste, add in olive oil, dulse, sea salt, pepper, or whatever other seasoning you like.

When I want extra greens, I usually make Alissa's spinach dip or spice it up and make her Indian Spinach dip. Both awsome and you get the great benefits of the spinach.

I would have gagged on that too but I love veg soup. I usually do - carrots, tomatoes, celery, spinach, lettuce, onion, garlic, lemon juice.

Sometimes I add broccoli or other veg but the predominant taste is carrot and celery.

If you want blended broccoli try Alissa's broccoli soup, its amazing!!

hi Bella,

did you try the green smoothie powder Alyssa sells? You can also get a similar product at healthfood stores. Each scoop is 7-8 servings of green veggies.

Starfire. I love them too, very green and crisp tasting, but after 3 weeks, all the fruit sugars are making me sick. Fatigue, and now, severe acid, but I love the cleansing and detoxing benefits. I just don't know how to give them up, and can't do tomatoes, peppers, but I'll have to transition to a more savory one.
