Wow! I'm going to try this again. I did not get any advice from my other thread. How did some of you start out being raw? I am not a troll, but just someone who wants advice and wants to live a healthier life. Could you give a new person like me some? I've eaten an apple, an avocado, bananas, and I'm still hungry? How did you all deal with this in the beginning? I'm on my 6th day. The meals from the Alissa's book have been great, but snacking has been my problem. I do make green smoothies from time to time also. Were you 100% raw in the beginning or was it a gradual process for you? I'm really trying to learn.

Do you have a dehydrator yet? If so you can make some pretty good sweet potato chips, corn chips...etc. I also make some pretty good granola bars and cookies, etc. Also, you may want to try taking a tsp of cocnut oil in the morning and evening to curb the cravings. Good luck!

I started out 100% and was never constantly hungry. I ate plenty. I brought fruit with me to work, plus some baby carrots. Today I had a smoothie for breakfast and brought the Angel Hair Pasta w/ Marinara sauce for lunch. I have blueberries and brownies for later, if I want. I'm never ravenously hungry. When I am hungry, I eat. :)

I distinctly remember feeling so hungry when I would first go raw, and I always felt like I was doing something wrong. I would be cooked one day and try to do 100% the next day and I always went off the diet in the afternoon, so congrats on sticking with it!

You said that snacking is a problem? I actually think it is the solution, we call it grazing. I think that on raw you eat much more often.

For example so far today I've had a 1" slice of watermellon at about 9, then when I got hungry again I ate a cup of banana ice cream, a little while later I had 3 sliced tomatoes with dip. All before noon!

One great transition food is popcorn, I put whatever spices and condiments I am craving on it and I can eat a lot without really eating anything. I kicked my pasta habit this way!

I started out 100% raw, and remain so three-and-a-half weeks later. At first, I had to make LOTS of food--followed Alissa's first week recommendations. Plus, I took lots of raw veggies with me to work. (It just happens to be tomato season, so I have been eating 4+ tomatoes per day!) The most miraculous thing is that my taste-buds have changed (started day 3) so that formerly favorite SAD food no longer tastes good to me, (totally blows my mind!!! ), and I've just recently noticed that I am eating less.

I do eat at least 1-3 avocados a day, which helps with saitiation, and I have just started with the green smoothies!! Love them! My advice (also Alissa's advice) is to always have food with you in the beginning. I didn't follow this advice twice when I went to SAD restaurants with family and friends, and was I sorry!! Not only did I feel like I wasted money (pay one price restaurant) but was starving afterwards, and had to wait until we got home (a 2hr drive) to eat! Now I have a bag of almonds, cashews, and goji berries with me, so I won't starve if I get caught out.

You say you eat an apple, avocado and bananas? That doesn't sound like enough, especially just starting out. Get Alissa's book, if you don't already have it...she says that it takes time for your body to adjust, and you will need to eat more at first. Eventually, you will notice that you need less. (Listen to me...I sound like a pro, when I'm not that far ahead of you!:p )

IMHO, I really think that 100% raw is the way to go. My partner has only gone part raw, and hasn't noticed any of the changes I have. If you are really ready for a life-change, it will happen if you let it.

Good luck to you! I wish you all the success you crave.

Thanks everyone for your responses. Yes, I do have Alissa's book and I have made some of her dishes, which have gone really well so far. I just had the apples (2 I ate by the way), the bananas (2 or 3 I ate), and sunflower seeds and nuts, and an avocado for snacks. For lunch I had the mung beans with a sauce and a salad, plus I bought a fruit smoothie from home. I was just wondering how you all responded for things when you wanted a snack and the fruits and veggies were not enough. My craving today was for some cheese. It has been a hard day for me today. I have a dehydrator but have not used it yet. Looks like I'm going to have to try it sooner than I thought. Once again, thanks.

Great suggestion, Cherries. I even bought some popcorn from home and was thinking of eating some, but stayed away from it. Next time, I will eat some. I wondered were there some good transition foods.

my latest snack idea has been- a dried fig! sometimes i don't want a fruit (so watery) or fat..... just something small but with lots of flavor!

p.s. i started 100% (well i guess it was about 95% since i had some non-raw olives and some nuts) and it wasn't too hard because i was happy to eat fruit (after being on low-carb)... then i tried to keep busy by reading books on raw not to think of food too much:o

P.S.#2 another amazing snack for me- a frozen banana- omg it's so sweet! and since it's cold i eat it slower, it's like ice-cream :D

That's when the dehydrator comes in handy. However, it takes a while to finish, so things have to be planned. I made onion rings a couple of days ago and the next day I wanted something that wasn't a smoothie, plain fruit or veggie. The onion rings came in handy. Also, brownies have been my 'sweets' standby. I also like peach cobbler and most recently the andypdx ice cream recipe. I'm not too crazy about the banana ice cream. At first it seemed ok, but then it wasn't.

People keep saying that. I would really want to see if that's true for me too, but......
