I have been considering fasting... actually, not in the nearest future- i first want to be raw for awhile and cleanse myself of all the poison of cooked food:rolleyes:
But anyway, i have been reading a lot about fasting.. and how we people can actually use solar energy. I remember my mom mentioned once to me that sometime people will figure out how to live on sunlight and water alone, and i just thought it was way too nuts.

Then i went to thebestdayever.com and found out about this guy- Hira Ratan Manek. He managed to not eat and live on water and sun for....... 411 days  http://livingonlight.org/EN/amboflight/hira_ratan_manek.html

I just think this is very interesting- and once i've been successfully raw for several years, my goal is to attempt something like that (WELL not for That long!) But it's amazing- with raw food i find out such information!

I have read about that too. I started looking towards the sun when camping and you see those awesome sunsets. I don't want to burn my retina so I look past the sun, not directly at it. I didn't really "feel" any different but I did enjoy the sunset.

Raw is such a learning experience. I have learned so much about herbs, skin brushing, juice feasting, staring at the sun, oil pulling....so much! What a fun adventure.:D

yes, RAW is like a window to all kinds of new information you don't just see on TV every day!

A water fast is very harsh on the body and people have died doing it. I wouldn't attempt it unless you were under the strict observation of a doctor or fasting/medical clinic.

I have completed Hira Manek's method of sungazing with excellent results. Feel free to drop me a line or ask any questions you might have. I short, I DO recommend additional sun to all but most toxic.....in reasonable doses/methods. Certainly my eyesight is better than it has ever been.

-I'll actually get a chance to meet him and hear him speak at RawSpiritFest this October. Should be fun!

I forget which "guru" it was who was preaching living on air or whatever for a long # of days, well, someone got video footage of him eating multiple times.

DavidZaneMason- wow, sounds great.. i definitely will be reading more about sungazing..

Stacie- oh definitely- i would need to do a much more profound research on the subject before attempting it! i feel like i'm not ready for anything like that sometime soon anyway.. i just thought it was insane- 411 days!

We are not plants and do not photosynthesize. Our skin cells contain no chlorophyll, and our bodies do not naturally produce chlorophyll or any functionally similar substance.

Therefore, our bodies DO need food to eat. The Sun does not provide the nutrients we require. While it is possible to fast for long periods of time, anyone who claims that we can live entirely without food, in or out of the Sun, is a bit mad.

well living your Whole life without food is quite extreme... but i could never imagine someone Could really do it for a year, and it seems to be real.

p.s. people call me "mad" for thinking i can survive on raw foods..

The idea of raw foods makes sense to those who think about it..."Animals in the wild eat this way." But animals in the wild do not deprive themselves of food for disturbing amounts of time. People die trying to be breatharian, and as in the article I posted, there are huge doubts that Jasmuheen actually is one, anyways. I read yet another article online written about "breatharians" who drink diet coke and consume take-away food as a "taste craving filler". The whole premise is absolutely ridiculous.

Riiiya, I went to that site, and although I did not read every teeny weeny printed word, that guy did not look that great to me. He looked kinda sickly in the photo.

However, I have a housemate who has been studying ho'opono'ono, and says that the power of sunlight through cobalt blue glass infuses water with magical healing properties. So, we have been putting a cobalt blue pitcher covered with plastic wrap outside in the sun for at least 1/2 hr. And then pouring it into a refrigerated container with a spout. So, we have been drinking "blue" water now almost exclusively. I don't know if I have noticed any difference in myself, but I have been eating 100% raw, so wouldn't know what was due to which. I will ask if either she or my partner (who both eat SAD) have noticed any difference. :D

Thats because its not possible to survive for long periods w/o food.

Even raw food isnt good enough anymore, LOL. JK

Thank you.

And Riiya,
As far as my posts and the opinions contained therein go, I do not feel that I say what I say to disrespect anyone's opinions but merely to do two things: 1. to promote the raw food (not no food) lifestyle, as is the purpose of this forum, and 2. to offer a bit of insight in the hopes that people who have come upon ridiculous ideas that could kill them will not adopt them. Believing that one will or will not die as the result of a certain practice is perhaps more important than a mere opinion.

I hardly know how to say this without seeming bitingly sarcastic, but please do not be offended by the above.

lol i absolutely understand you! and perhaps i made it sound like i want to try it for sure... my reason for posting in the first place was just to share the info and see what people's thoughts are.
i really don't think that i would want to try that without extensive research and years of raw AT THE LEAST. I just have several friends who do things like that for short periods of time and love the effects. They're very careful and do it when they need to be very creative or smth like that.
Thanks for your opinion!

Riiiya,

There is a chapter in the book Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramahansa Yogananda that talks of a female yogi who lived without food. When I get home (next week) I can look it up and give you her name if you're interested.

Living on sunshine is a close relative to water fasting I would think. So how long can a person safely fast before the body needs fuel ?

Teachingking- actually that would be great! i want to know more on the subject, so yes please do let me know :) (here or write on my website)

EZ Rider- who knows... i bet it's different for everyone. This indian guy went 411 days and his physical condition (which was monitored by 20 doctors or smth) was perfect, blood sugar didn't go down, no health concerns at all. I know some people who do about 2 weeks and feel great, so yea... i have no idea :o
