Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone knows about a website/source that talks about what fruits and veggies are in season at what time? I would love a source that is very specific, i.e., that goes by month/months rather than just seasons. I know the rule of thumb is that the stuff that has a prominent display in the produce section is usually the stuff that's in season but I'm finding that to be dubious (case in point: peaches had a huge display in my supermarket this Sunday but they're not that great at all - I'm guessing because it's the end of the summer... on the other hand, tangelos were sort of hidden and I bought only a few, figuring that since it's citrus the season is later - but they're delicious!)

Any help would be great!

It is interesting because seasons are also different depending on where you are. For example, peaches were in early July in the central valley when I lived there. In Washington, we are still in peach season. They are delicious too.

maybe look at seed websites for growing seasons in different regions

you can look for a farmer's market in your area as a good place to start.

Also in our area the local farmers publish a brochure with their farms and on it there is a list of what is in season when.

I also find older people are a great resource for this question as they grew up eating local stuff in season.

You can also learn for "imported" stuff when their season is. Such as for me mangos after May, and Citrus in December, etc... even though those aren't local. Depends on where it's from when it's in season.
