I thought that might get some hits :D

Hi all, I am going to a conference at the end of september. At first, I asked to "opt out" of the meal plan portion of the costs but they weren't cool with that and have assured me that they will accommodate my raw needs. I also look forward to sharing meal time with the other guests

since it is in the northwest and on an island property/retreat center with organic gardens/orchards I figured no problem....and that I should be able to get at least a fresh salad at every meal.....I just looked at their websites menu and now I am little worried....the food sounds beautiful but all very rich, heavy SAD foods.

I'm not worried about wanting to eat it. I am just hoping for some ideas that would be reasonable to present to them without being too high maintanance. (I don't eat fruit!!!)..........if only I could ask them to let me in their kitchen!!!!I'm sure by the end of the weekend we'd have some rawanabies!

I would ask them what in particular will they serve you in advanced. I would also give them specific guidelines. Give them some meal suggestions based on what they will have in season (so you wont get bored with plain salads). I can think of a few challenges I've come across.

*Vegan - no meat, dairy, eggs, etc. Some people don't know what vegan is. Yesterday, I had someone offered me butter though I told them I eat a vegan diet.
*No canned food of any kind. Its all cooked. Make sure nothing comes out of a can (or jar).
*Nuts - raw only; not roasted/toasted.
*Salad dressing - Its either not vegan or made with a non-raw vinegar, or cooked/heated oil.
*Juice - Unless its straight out of a juicer, no juice because most bottled juice (even organic, etc) is pasteurized.

It depends on how strict you want to be. If you have time, getting some produce, etc so you have something for breakfast would be something to do as well. Sometimes conference breakfasts consists of pastries, pasteurized juice, bad coffee and the token melon salad. If you're at a high end place like the Ritz, you will definitely have more fresh options.

good luck! i feel like the best thing to do would be to bring a small cooler of things if you can. make some salads at home, (cut everything up and store them in containers), and bring them along with you.
also, buy some nuts/seeds and bring a big bag of those as well.
maybe order some raw granola off lucky duck, and some snacks, and pack those as well.

I assumed she was traveling by plane. But if its a road trip, that is the best option.
