Hi! I have been raw for 15 days. Last year, I had been raw for 2 months, with no withdrawal or detox symptoms at ALL. However, this time, I had no symptoms up until today. I felt weak all morning, and tired, and lethargic. I slept over 9 hours last night so that wasn't the problem. Earlier this afternoon I just needed to sleep. My body literally wouldnt move at all. I put my head down, and woke up 3 hours later. So, my question is, was this detoxing? Since I've never experienced any symptoms like this last time when I was raw, I never knew what people were talking about. How long will it last? I feel awful!

Do you go radically overnight 100%?
I do believe that is not so healthy.

Yes, I went completely raw overnight....that is the way I did it last time as well. However, I was already eating a LOT of fruits and veggies in my diet before this. So I was basically removing everything else. However, I do still eat olive oil, and balsamic vinegar. I don't know if these things are raw.

Wow, overnight. I like the idea of 'raw until dinner' for at least a month or so. Otherwise the brutal detox gives you an intoxication. And I still like the idea of relaxing and giving yourself an 80% raw goal. I mean.. people who fear a pinch of spices on their plate because it is maybe not raw, that causes so much stress that it is far worse than the small margin of 'relax' and stay in this world...

in my humble opinion --
going 100% raw 'overnight' is the BEST way to go raw. Otherwise - Alissa would not ever suggest it! For some - a slower transition is what works ... we are each on our own path - yet in many ways the journey is the same.
Going 100% overnight was what I needed to do - just jump in and DO IT!! Begin loving and living the raw lifestyle and all it vibrancy...
if I transitioned slowly - I think I would've failed. it would've been too hard to eat the foods I was used to stuffing myself with... and then try to acquire the taste for raw foods. So -- ON A PERSONAL LEVEL... I am sooo glad I took Alissa's advice and went 100% raw immediately.
I experienced these same symptoms you mentioned and found that eventually they did pass. Several of the more experienced rawbies advised me that it was most likely detox.
over the months I have been working with fine tuning my raw food intake - and since cutting out ALL Fruit -- those particular symptoms have stopped.
don't give up or throw in the towel because of this -- allow your body to process thru it.... hang in there - and I believe you will see the blessings!!

well, maybe it does work for some.
I remember that years ago I changed my diet 100% overnight and I suddenly got huge allergies for all kinds of things, like trees and flowers and fruits..
Therefore I chose to be careful this time, and take it easy. To me the 100% anything is not working...
If this board is only about 1 way of living raw, and only the Alissa books can be taken for true, than maybe it is not my place to be..

Pommy - do you have Alissa's book? Is is so filled with amazing information. Many years of study went into the writing of this book so that RAWBIES all over the world could benenfit from this knowledge.
I know that without it - I certainly would've failed in my quest for health. I had tried all the DIE'its... all the pills... everything - this was like my 'last hope'.... and I'm so glad that the Lord led me to Alissa and this lifestyle...
I have never heard of the detox giving anyone 'intoxictation' before. Nor do I feel that the detox was necessarily brutal. There were some moments that were 'tougher' than others... and for each person I realize detox is different... but never once in 5 months have I heard anyone on this forum or other raw forums refer to the detox as giving them intoxication... I find this an interesting description.
Are there any links that you could provide that speak to this point. I do realize that one of the rules to this forum is not to post any links that 'bash' the raw lifestyle.... or discount the raw lifestyle --
but I am interested in where you came up with this theory and would like to read this reasearch -- if you wouldn't mind - you could email me thru my profile and let me know where this research is ~ so that I may review it in my private time.
WE are all such unique and wonderful beings ... each one of us has our own unique experience... and none of these can be discounted...and yet all of them can be celebrated!!
oh and btw... 100% rawbies often do use spices on their food - me being one of them. I certainly am not afraid of a little spice - and I don't sweat what I call the 'small stuff' (in my world anyway)... like honey is it raw is it not -- no matter I still eat it... and other small things such as this... it's not about spice causing me stress... it's about giving my body beautiful vibrant nutrition... and then giving my body some nutrition that is not necessarily beneficial... it seems counter productive to what I am trying to accomplish... but then - that is what worked for me - ;) !
blessings on your journey Pommey... I look forward to hearing from you!!;)

Raw overnight works for some, and not for others. It worked for me as well. I'm an all or nothing kind of person and when I make up my mind to do something, I do it and I go at it 100%. Not saying that is how it should be for everyone, but that is how it works for me. I personally would find it stressful to concentrate on taking it a little bit at a time, it would take too much thought for me to say "ok, today I'm going to eat this, than tomorrow, I'm not eating this but I'll eat this" I'd rather just say...fruits and veggies starting now :) For some, food is an addiction...and when you are getting rid of an addiction, its easier to do so cold turkey. If you tell yourself that you will gradually cut down, the temptation is too much. For instance, I can not eat just 1 cookie. I don't care how much I tell myself, just 1 cookie. It'll start with 1 than the next thing I know, I've eaten half the bag. So I have to completely cut them out to save myself that torture.
To the original poster, I was extremely tired days 1-3 but I believe by the 3rd day, I felt better. I was nodding at work which isn't good since I just started! lol

No Pommy ~ I certainly don't mean that there is only one way to be raw... SERIOUSLY... if you read my posts and responses scattered thru out this forum... you will see that many of us have different paths to raw!
Our goal of course is health and vibrant living... but how we get there is of course our own journey.
I am the first one to say -- RAWK ON... and well done... !! I think it is more important to be on the path to raw... however we get there.... one day at a time.. one bite at a time... !!!
Vibrant life is for all of us... it's ours for the taking... and I am honored to be on this journey with yu Pommey!
RAWK ON ... blessings... ;) :D

If this board is only about 1 way of living raw, and only the Alissa books can be taken for true, than maybe it is not my place to be..Yeah, this board is all about raw food and getting rid of your cooked food addictions. Jump on in the waters fine or go back to sleep.

Not everyone does raw the same way on this board. Some even eat raw meat  but they don't talk about it because this is a vegan board, so don't feel out of place just because you have found a way that works for you. We are a mixed bunch of nuts here and not everyone has Alissa's book. Some people can't afford it so they gather as much information as they can until they can afford it.

I find that my body does that if I dont eat enough.. food is fuel. The right foods are energy.

Pommy, Alissa does say that some people do it gradually and are successful. However, she also indicated that many never get there. That would have been me. I would never have made it if I didn't go 100% immediately.
