View Full Version : My (new) motivation to go 100% raw!!

Actually, maybe this is the SIGN I've needed to go and stay raw!!

Well, as y'all may have seen in earlier posts, I've been having a really rough time going raw. I'm temporarily living with my family, which hasn't made it easy. Unfortunately, when I'd first gotten here, I was in the midst of the 30 day challenge, and still struggling with it. (Maybe if I'd been raw for a couple of months before getting here, I could have handled this new bump in the highway of my life and have been able to stick to the path!) :)

Well, my new motivation hit me (literally) last night -- and is continuing to do so today. Once I'm able to eat again ... maybe I should say, even look at food again ... I don't believe I'll have any problems with going and staying raw.

The one thing I have been doing while fighting with this here at my parents, was to at least make sure that I've eaten very little meat the entire time. So my dinner last night consisted of salad (which is a pretty good choice), baked beans (an iffy choice), and Stouffer's mac-n-cheese (a very BAD choice, I know). :( Well, it turned out to be an even worse choice than I'd thought. (I'm starting to think that maybe it had been defrosted prior to purchase, then just stuck back in the freezer and re-froze. It didn't smell or taste bad, which is what's so weird. And I know that was definitely the culprit of all the pain we've had since about 8:30 last night.)

Both my mom and I wound up with food poisoning from the mac-n-cheese. (My dad has an iron-clad stomach, and nothing phases him.) Thank God their house has TWO bathrooms, because she and I both took up residence in them the entire night last night, with diarrhea and throwing up. (Sorry for the awful picture there!) I've still had to deal with the diarrhea today. The only time I've seen anything even remotely similar to this type is after a colonic. It hasn't been pleasant at all.

But once I'm even able to look at or eat food again, I don't think I'll have any difficulties at all going and staying raw. Somehow I just don't think the worry about food poisoning is on the raw diet! :o

Carolyn, food poisoning is not very fun. But, onto the positive....

I hope you can focus on the raw lifestyle, a little more now. Don't worry or feel guilty for slip-ups. We all have them (or at least most of us do). For starting off, I would recommend some juice smoothies. I love orange juice, lemon juice and spinach. You can vary the fruit(s) and the green. I also like adding cilantro. Perhaps these juices will help your mom, too.

Blessings.

Food poisoning is caused by "bad" bacteria. If the diarrhea continues, if you can, get some liquid acidolpholus (it should be refrigerated) and unfiltered apple juice. Mix about 1 Tb. with a glass of juice and it should stop the problem. A second choice would be plain, unsugared yogurt w/ live bacteria.

Tracy: Thanks so much for the tips on the smoothies! I was thinking of a smoothie for once I'm able to stomach the thought. :) A friend advised the BRAT approach, which her doctor says to do for the kids. (But I don't have a lot of faith in doctors, for one ... and my body has been saying "smoothie" ... I think I'll tend to listen to my body, rather than a doctor.) :)

Revvell: Thanks also for the tips on stopping the diarrhea! It seems to have finally stopped ... at least I've gone a few hours now without any incidents, which is a good sign. I just kept viewing it as my body needed to get the toxins and poisons out, so I hadn't wanted to take anything to stop it. Altho' I have to admit that the thought did cross my mind! lol ... (My mom had even said the same thing about the body getting rid of the poison and it being a good thing. And I have to say, she surprised me on that one! Maybe it shouldn't have, but it did.) :)

I think this evening will be a bit more comfortable than last night had been, thank God!!

Hi Carolyn,

This is so familiar to me... kept getting hung up on the mac and cheese when I made it for my daughter for the past 4 months. I've been so close to 100% too... damn cheese. I started the 30 day challenge with a friend on 4.15, but when I told her that I had had one forkfull of mac and cheese (I was testing it for my daughter, it didn't look right- no really!!) we figured we would start over and had some more cooked food that night, knowing that we'd be back at 100% the next day.. well.. well.. I was in pain doubled over for the rest of the night! All started from the mac and cheese; the pain had started the second that macaroni hit my stomach. After that night I haven't had a single desire for anything cooked, and it's been a week. It really helped "poison" my mind against it all!

Hopefully the same has happend for you too!

Hi Watersole,

Oh trust me ... I have absolutely no desire for anything cooked, processed or anything like that anymore! What a way to learn!! What is it about mac-n-cheese?? Interesting that it's what turned you off of cooked, too! Thanks for sharing that info! :)

I must say that the mac-n-cheese did Christine (watersole) in. She was pretty messed up before we even made it to the restaurant.

I had a very similar experience about a month ago. After a week and a half raw, I heard the box in the cupboard calling my name. I made it and took a bite. Not so great... figured I'd keep trying. Took another bite. That flappy thing that closes off my stomach shut down and started yelling, "Hey! What do you think you're doing?" Third bite made me really queasy and the dogs go to eat the rest.

wow, what an intense experience. I am glad it seems to have subsided for you.
Using it as a boost to your goal, as an advantage or blessing is very clever of you. Way to go!

Feel better....
