Does anyone here not eat fruit and what has that done for you? Im thinking of trying a week fruit free just to see how i feel. I want to try new things to see what my body feels best with.

I am trying to avoid fruit and all other sugars (such as agave, honey, etc.) because I have systemic candida. I was told this by a microscopist when I had a live blood cell analysis. He showed me the yeast, I saw it in my blood with my own two eyes!
I believe him because I have been *out of control* with sugar in the past, and I've had yeast infections, allergies, and skin conditions my whole life!
I have a friend who is doing a 2-month candida cleanse and avoiding all sugars and fruit as well. She is already 1 month into it, and she is doing great!
Unfortunately for me, it's been much harder. My body can't deal with not having sugar and I've been messing-up every few days! Ugggh!
But yeast needs sugar, because it actually lives off of sugar. I can just get through the "die-off" stage, I'll be OK.

I actually just found this blog yesterday, and I'm hoping it will help me: http://www.candidablog.com/

i just notice that i feel much more balanced when im not eating sugar. when i eat fruit, all i want is more fruit all the time and then i binge on it and fruit makes me more bloated. most of the time i just cant stop after one piece of fruit. on the other hand when i eat salads with health fats like avocado, i feel much more satisfied. when my meals over, my brain isn't thinking about more food. i feel more stable and balanced. so i think once september starts im gonna try giving up fruit and sugar for a while.

well, i don't have any Reason to avoid sugar so...
I don't avoid fruit (although i try to eat less of the high GI ones) but i try not to have any sweeteners like honey or agave.. i just really don't need them after all- i used to put them in smoothies, but then realized that plain fruits are SO sweet it's not necessary. i also don't really eat any dried fruits..
No way, without fruit my life would be so... colorless

p.s. but it Is an interesting idea to experiment with your body- who knows, maybe you'll feel so much better on many levels! i'd be interested in doing this at some point as well :D

Honestly, if it's raw, I eat it. :)
If I had to avoid any part of the raw world, raw wouldn't work for me. I need the fruits, the sweet, the fats, the nuts, seeds, and all the other yummy veggies.
I need variety and satisfaction from my food. If I'm discontent, it won't be a lifestyle or journey...it would be a diet. I don't need that in my life. I did that for 20 years. It didn't work...not in the long term.
Telling myself I'm choosing healthy over junky (but sometimes tasty), is will power enough. Why make it hard when you don't have to?
Raw is a sustainable way to eat because of the variety. If you feel you want to shake things up in your own world...woohoo! :D But don't keep it up if you feel disatisfied.

for me though, i feel much better and and at peace (and not bloated) when i avoid fruit. im not as familiar with the veggie world so i think i should explore that more deeply for a while anyway.

I read somewhere that you can do high sweet fruit aproach or you can do high fat aproach, but you can not do high fat and high sweet fruit aproach, if you want to feel good.
Since I like fruit much more than fat, I decided on high fruit aproach(today is my 9th day)and I feel so much better than I felt on my anything raw aproach. But I also stoped using condiments(salt including) and dehydrated stuff, so I am not sure which ones were responsible for my weakness and low energy before.

I eat very little of it. And by fruit, I mean sweet fruit. Why? Don't like the taste of it.

When I first started raw I ate no fruit except the tomato kind. Now I am eating fruit (green smoothies) but sometimes the sugar in it is just alot for me (and I am bloated) and I have been wondering how on earth could a diabetic do a green smoothie? My husband is diabetic and cannot have fruit so he cannot have one.

hey luckitri

diabetics CAN do green smoothies.....just try them ALL-GREEN.
like this:

cucumber (whole)
avocado (whole)
coconut oil (2 tablespoons)
sprouts, if available
spinach (or any other greens)
lemon (whole)
mint
pinch of cayenne
water
ice

I have to avoid bananas and grapes. They are too high on the GI and make me feel ill. Tomatoes make my joints ache. I know its not idea to avoid certain raw foods, but some of us don't have that choice.

The only fruits that I take it easy on are bananas(constipation), grapes(bloated) and too many melons(they tend to set me off) but other than that, I am munching on fruit all day... it's my favorite thing in the world and if I had to give it up, I dont think I'd last... I can't even imagine my life without fruit!!! especially apples!!!!! I have candida problems but I find it gets bad when I eat lots of fruit AND fat. so I've chosen to cut out most of the fats(nuts) and also dried fruits and that seems to work for me.

I wouldnt give up on fruits completely... I really dont think thats healthy at all. We are suppose to eat fruit, it has so many benefits for us!!! if your worried about it causing problems for you, I would suggest just lowering your intake... why not have a few fruits a day instead of ALOT of fruits??

Shel I am with you on this one.

Eating Raw you do not have to eliminate a food group and I feel that if I do..(and beleive me in my two years raw I have played with this already) I will set myself up to fail.

I started dieting, counting calories and scale watching at the age of 14 and stopped at 44 when I went Raw two years ago this week !!! I disabled fitday, try not to mentally count my calories, fat, protein and carbo grams, and do not weigh in daily (no two times a day ! ) anymore. FREEDOM!

I find if I say I will not eat this or that..fruit, nuts..I end up thinking about it and that is what I do. I allow myself to eat whatever I want in the RAW WORLD.

When I first became raw I was diabetic and had a whole bunch of other medical problems. I read Alissa’s book and in there she talks about how diabetics should stay off fruit until they lose the weight and eventually all the good benefits follow. I did make veggie smoothies with green apples. That was my only fruit for the day in order to gain all the other benefits from the veggies. I did this for about six months. I lost approximately 60-80 pounds and my doctor took me off of diabetic medications.
So, I got rid of the weight, diabetes and the medications.
It was not easy but I knew I was doing it with the purpose of gaining my health back for the first time which I did.
I now eat fruit daily. I am with all those that feel that if we had to restrict our intake of fruit forever it would become a chore just like a diet. Raw is a way of life, a journey that we enjoy and fruit is a part of it.

I really need to have more discussion on this. i just don't have much time today. I was leary, and still am from past experience with fruit. I've been doin the green smoothie w/ fruit, not enough fat, cuz I'm so fulllll and yes, feel bloated. I don't think I should have much if any. Many symptoms. I need a different approach to my raw life.

YES - I RESTRICT FRUITS.... sadly because I live in Paradise a land filled with exotic fruits of all kinds and many beautiful fruit growing right on our land so -- it's free, organic and filled with love and blessed energy!!!

I ate fruit abundantly as a child - never noticed any thing weird with my body - of course I wasn't paying attention, plus I was extremely active. The older I got - intuitively (especially in my mid 40's I began to 'shy' away from fruit)... I dunno it was just a 'feeling I had'... so I followed it.

and believe me -- I LOOVE FRUIT... but this 'feeling' was REALLY REALLY STRONG... so I just followed it.

I also have not been one to eat a lot of donuts, sweet breads, pastries or candy... it was 'just not my thing'. My friends ate a lot of candy - I never did.

When I went raw - and my body began changing... and I began to detox... it was a fairly normal raw journey -- you know -- going thru what we all go thru.

Everyone was talking about smoothie this and smoothie that -- and GREEN SMOOTHIES... everyone was talking about green smoothies...

my spirit was saying... ummm... no. At first I thought maybe cuz it was green - that perhaps I had some kind of stigma b/c it was green... so one day - I just went for it -- made my first green smoothie -- and IMMEDIATELY FELL IN LOVE WITH GREEN SMOOTHIES....

I was having AT LEAST one a day and occassionally I would have two (but not often.) The green smoothie was very simple. TONS of baby spinach, strawberries, a drop of honey, some spirulina... and occassionally I might add a bit of other fruit, apple, mango, or papaya.

I felt great - at first... then detox hit -- or so I thought... the symptoms became very intense and knocked me out for over two weeks...

PLUS... I suddenly started GAINING WEIGHT AT A VERY RAPID RATE. (where as previously I was dropping weight pretty fast or at least losing inches)... So - I made smoothies without the honey I thought - well, maybe it was that drop of honey (literally less than 1/2 teaspoon... but I dunno - it might've been... I didn't know...)

HERE'S what I started experiencing....
vertigo - extreme dizziness
Restless Leg syndrome that I suffered from for years (and started after I began drinking very heavy)- intensified 10 fold... it was unbareable.
Horrible very sharp painful headache / just shy of a migraine
drugged feeling - like I had been injected with some thing to just knock me out - I would be sitting there and just fall asleep - and if my dh was even able to wake me up I was disoriented... didn't know what day it was - what time - where I was, was I supposed to go to work? Was it bed time??? ... it was horrible... aaand... not only was I in such a confused state BUT then within 2 minutes I'd pass out again (I say pass out cuz it seriously was like I had been drugged).

I was telling my bff about all these symptoms - she's a homeopath and tested me - I showed up as HIGHLY ALLERGIC TO FRUIT.

the lowest on the test was :
bananas - (so an occasional organic banana was ok)
grapefruit - (again - occassionally)
tomato - I can eat several of these

so - I stopped drinking green smoothies - stopped all fruit.

and within days all the symptoms stopped. ... like they were never there... nothing -- it was so weird...

I have since incorporated a few bananas here and there --

FAST FORWARD 2 MONTHS -- and well I've given in to the - I don't give a damn moment and I'm gunna eat that watermelon...

HUGE MISTAKE - the symptoms came RAGING BAACK... the restless leg syndrome the dizzines... OMG... siick... I was so ill... add all of that to the lovely dia-doodies too... :(

I also had a moment of insanity when I just HAD TO EAT A PAPAYA.... again... knocked me down... completely - wacked me out...

so ... my belief is that the longer I am raw and the healthier I get -- I will eventually be able to slowly reincorporate fruit into my diet. But for now...
FOR NOW....

NO FRUIT thank you very much!!!

and btw - I have never (thank you Jesus) had candida -- infact I didn't even know what that was until I got on this forum. I've never had complextion problems (as an adult that is.... as teenager I had horrible acne - but when I turned 17 - it just cleared up and never returned!) ...

and -- I'm not diabetic.

so.. I'm glad you posted this thread cuz I have often thought I was the only one not having fruit -- and it's so lonely in a no fruit world!!! :o
although I do love my veggies!!

and actually - reading Corianders testimony is what helped me deal with this and stop feeling sorry for myself.... so if you haven't read her testimony - make sure you check it out cuz it's very inspiring!

RAWK ON RAWBIES... so glad I'm not alone!!

I am diabetic. I use an insulin pump. I have spinich and banana smoothies in the morning. It is a chore for me to figure out what I can eat but my sugar levels are at their best.:)

id say it is different for everyone, i personally eat a large variety of fresh fruit and sun-dried - probably 85-90% of my diet. its just what my body tells me to eat and so i listen. i try to get mostly organic fruit of course, but its not always available. the high sugar factor doesn't bother me much because it is all natural sugar that nature is providing us with. i realize there may be disagreement with that. i also eat melons separately because i read somewhere that they are digested fast and stagnate if held up by other foods and i've found this to be accurate.

like someone else said earlier, i think i do better when its either mostly fruits or mostly veggies and fats but even between those too i feel better when its mostly veggies and fats.

Hi, can you please direct me to Coriander's testimony? I'm recently diagnosed w candida and have been eating a SAD anti-candida diet for a few weeks, in conjunciton with herbs and probiotics and such. I'd really like to try to incorporate more raw, but honestly, back when I was raw, ALL I ATE WAS DESSERT! Breakfast, lunch, dinner. I ate fruit and smoothies for brek, fruit and a salad for lunch, or some fancy recipe from Alissa's book or Raw Food Real World, or RPs brownie or more smoothie or etc etc etc. Dessert was what kept me raw, but obviously wasn't good for me...

I'd love to read about someone's experience eating raw without eating fruit and sweets.

Thanks!

I looked for it in her profile, maybe if you go to her blog. Just go to members list, and look around at her info, and posts. I don't really have a candida problem, just blood sugar issues, but I do know enough about it. I have tried several approaches to deal with all of the symptoms of eating fruit, some as described by the others. I use some fruit each day, paying attention to food combinations, but it is not a mainstay of my diet. I don't eat the dried or sweet fruits often, too much sugar. Have you checked out food combining? It has made so much difference for me. I believe dried / sweet fruits would be the worst thing for you. It is sometimes an overwhelming process to figure out what works best for your body and your own metabolism. Only you can determine what will be the right approach. There is so much help here, you will come to to a full understanding of your best fit, just keep persevering.
