This may seem like a very silly question, but I tried a raw humus recipe which required me to use garbanzo beans, sprouted for one day...once they begin to sprout do I throw the whole bean, plus whatever has grown into the fp or do I just remove the sprouts and use those? I tried using the whole bean and the humus was terrible (it hadn't sprouted yet, so that could have been the problem as well).
Does anyone has a good raw humus recipe with garbanzos in it? I love garbanzos, but this hummus was very bitter! Does sprouting help with this bitterness??

I have found that sprouted beans have a certain flavor to them. I LOVE cooked beans so I am a bit disappointed with their raw counterpart. The best hummus I ever made was actually with zucchini instead of garbanzos ~ it had the hummus taste without the sprouted bean taste. I have always waited until the bean has its "tail" and then used the whole thing in recipies. Good luck!

i use sprouted garbanzo in my hummus but hummus is made from more than just the beans. It also has tahini, garlic, olive oil and lemon juice. i make a batch every week. i love it.

use the banana to do a search for hummus. IMO the best hummus has nothing to do with sprouted garbanzos, they don't taste good or like the cooked garbanzos, but you can mock the flavor of hummus using other ingredients, and based on your experience, you will like these hummuses (hummi?) better when they are based on something else and have no garbanzos in them.

I once made a raw hummous with fermented sprouted chickpeas (garbanzos) and it was much nearer cooked taste than non-fermented, but it would be a lot of effort and its not really worth it. Try the zucchini version.

O.k. I couldn't find the original recipe ~ DANG! But here is what I just made:
4 zucchini
1/2 - 3/4 c tahini
1 lemon juiced
4 cloves garlic
1/4 c oil
1 tsp paprika
1/4 red pepper
14/c dry red peppers - looking for that "roasted" taste
1 1/2 tsp salt
It turned out O.k. Here's what I wish I had added
onion
parsley
It turned out watery ~ maybe too much zucchini. It's edible but not an OMG I love this recipe. Flarn. :(

Thanks for the recipe! I will try it out with some onion and parsley and let you know! Where can I get raw tahini or is tahini always raw? I saw a bottle at Trader Joes last week, but didn't look at it closely.

tahini is not always raw. if its in a can or jar is most likely not so check.

I agree with Rawcutter but I do use maranatha "raw" tahini. I know I am just taking their word for it but I tend to be a worry wart so some things I have to let slide. If it doesn't say raw though I don't use it ~ the ingredients will list that they used roasted seeds. Eventually I'll just make my own....baby steps, baby steps. And YES let me know how it turns out, my hubby thought it was missing something too. Maybe you can find the "missing" ingredient! :D
