Hey, everyone

I jumped into raw last January with both feet. I LOVED IT- until my hair started falling out!! Then I started educating myself about nutrition. I eventually gave up on raw due to the devastation of losing so much hair, but this year I have been working my way back to it because I miss all the benefits I got from my raw diet - I'm just being smarter about it now! This time around I have a nutritionist , and I monitor my nutrients closely and get blood tests. My hair hasn't returned to it's previous thickness, but I no longer have to wear hats and wigs, and a hairstylist friend of mine gave me an awesome hair cut so I feel much better these days.

My current quest is to get back to 100% raw. The only non-raw foods I hang on to now are those that are high in protein. Once I am comfortable with the raw foods I replace them with, I'll toss those foods aside. For now, I'd say I'm perhaps 80% raw (hard to put a number on such a thing). Eating raw was the best thing I'd ever done for myself, so it's important to me to get it right this time around. I'm very excited to be "back." :)

Hey RawAllison!

I remember alot of talk here last year about thinning hair with raw and people saying that after awhile they got new hair growth and their hair was beautiful and in some cases the gray went away. Will have to take the time to find those old threads at some point.

Currently I am not 100% but my hair is just yuck. It is definately thinning and is just dried out and no shape to it - totally dead and lifeless. I just tie it up all the time and am hoping it will get better.

I am not yet ready to no 'poo and tried coconut oil conditioning but getting it out of my hair stripped it once again. (No ocean to swim in.)

I would be interested to know what advisement you got.

Thank you for the welcomes.

Luckitri, as far as hair loss, I got advice to start taking biotin and MSM last year, both of which I did start taking, although not regularly. They have both been a part of my regimen since this June, though. I also read about minerals like copper, so I tried taking black strap molasses- that stuff is chock full of minerals. (It's also an acquired taste, and I never made it past the first bottle!) Silica, which is found in cucumbers, is also supposed to be good, but I never got into a cucumber regimen. Protein is the biggest thing, though, so I concentrate on getting my daily protein above and beyond what I normally get from eating greens, veggies, fruits and nuts.

I never thought about using coconut oil in my hair. What kind were you getting? I put olive oil in my hair right now - Philippe Berio (or however you spell it) right out of the bottle! :-) But I'd love to give the coconut a try. My hair desperately needs oil because it gets very dry and brittle, as you describe yours to be.

The raw virgin coconut oil in a jar from the HFS - that I like to eat also.
