do you refer to yourself as a raw foodist, raw vegan, vegan etc? For me personally, I tend to stick with vegeterian as the least specific bc i once in a blue moon i eat dairy or eggs although not really so much anymore. I dont worry too much about 100 percent raw so i dont call myself a raw vegan either. I guess i just call mysef a person who tries to eat a whole foods diet with lots/mostly raw foods but i dont view it as a crime to have a cooked meal every now and then. How do u guys feel about this whole labeling thing?
i hope this doesn't get deleted or anything...

"Raw Foodist" because I'm not vegan. I consume honey every blue moon, wear leather (I dont own many leather products anymore), silk, wool and cashmere. I would look silly telling someone I'm vegan wearing a cashmere sweater. :o
I think labels are a way for people to feel purpose in their life. However, often times this same label evokes feelings of superiority and arrogance that lead to judgmentalism. Not a very harmonious way to live if you ask me. Just be yourself, freely. If the urge ever hits you to go 100% raw then do it. until then...just be. Raw is not spelled G-O-D.

I dont think its about labels - its more about what do you say when asked.

I agree. People hate labels so much but it's not about having moral superiority. It's about convenience and explaining when people ask.
I'm vegan.

Have no qualms about telling people I am raw vegan AND not because it makes me feel "superior" or an "elitist", but because it works for me! ~ Cathy

I try not to label myself in the "I am's" in life. Because I am not a raw foodist or a raw vegan, it is just a part of what I do.

I tell people I'm a raw foodist, and if they ask then I tell them I EAT raw vegan. I do still have my leather boots from Boot Camp, my softball glove and a few things with wool in them.

I'm with the OP on this one - basically a whole foods diet made up mostly of raw foods. Usually I just say vegetarian though.

I've been thinking about what to say too, as everybody knows I don't eat the SAD, or do anything that is popular to do, so I know what to expect. I know how people see the good you are doing for yourself as judgement on them, it's about conviction. They are the ones that are judging you. I had babies at home, only nursed them, fed them whole foods and not junk, used cloth diapers, dried laundry on a clothes line, homeschooled, garden, compost recycle, conserve anything I can, because it's important to me. It doesn't matter what or why people think you make the choices of conscience as long as you are doing it for the right reasons. I don't eat the way I eat to lose weight or look good, it's all about health. I eat what I want when I want, I can't be in bondage to how I eat, or I would go off the deep end.
Errr... A divine work in progress? :)

uh i really don't want to create a label for myself.. but people Do ask, it's like they DEMAND TO KNOW why you're doing things differently!! lol.. i actually think i used to be quite judgmental myself perhaps... so i try not to judge those who judge Me now.. uh nobody's perfect.
Either way- so far i haven't been asked in my face what i call myself.. if i get such a question i..uh..hmm... i think i'll just say i eat good food. It's really ambiguous but oh well  unless the person is really interested to understand what i mean, i won't waste my time arguing

i would say raw vegan but i eat honey... but then again isnt that a controversial topic among vegans? i mean you are just eating something that they would make regardless. whatver i dont need to have an argument with a die hard vegan or anything i didnt make tthe switch for the animals (thats not to say i dont love the animals, it just wasnt originally my main purpose. my reasons for doing this have evolved to contain many different moral perspectives)... i mean i had leather seats in my car before i did this and was pretty ignorant to the whole process of making it, but i have the car and i am not gonna get in my car every time and go ewww so much suffering to make these seats, i need to get a new car, etc. whatever man im doing the best i can to learn and utilize my knowledge to the practical best of my ability.
im digressing though. i try to say i eat a raw vegan diet. but if someone asks me are you vegan, i would respond i eat a raw vegan/living foods diet. and if someone asked me who/what i am, i would respond that i am.
