View Full Version : How I liked "The Box"...

Afternoon RAWbies!!!

Well... Since my last thread about "The Box" was closed, I don't know if I should write this or not... But, since there are several threads about it already floating out there (even Revvell started one...), I hope that this is o.k. to write. I have gotten requests from several people wanting to know how I liked it, so here goes...

I tasted everything right away (I'm like a kid...I couldn't help it!!!) ;) and put it in the freezer so that it would not go bad on me and I could eat it when I want to... I found the way it was packaged with bags "odd", but necessary. Everything was cold when it arrived and some of it was still frozen because of the dry ice.

"The Box" I ordered contained:

Hearty Lentil Chili (delicious! Really reminded me of Alissa's!!)
Thai Curry Soup (good--and I'm NOT a curry fan!!!)
Med. Tabouli (o.k.)
Summer Corn Salad (great--but I got one off of RFT that was just as good)
Mashed Potatoes (soooooo creamy! Delicious!!! I REALLY liked that!!!)
Thai Coleslaw (hummm.... It was alright...nothing to write home about...)
Seed Cheese Wrap (tasted o.k... but a little "soggy" for me)
Vegetable Lasagna (yummy!!! I kept licking the spoon!!!)
Greek Pizza (Absolutely to Live for!!!!)
Spinach and Mush Quiche (Absolutely to Live for!!! I REALLY loved the crust.)
Homemade Apple Crumble (Totally delicious!!! Alissa has one that's just as good...)
Apple Raisin Cookies (good...reminded me of a Laura Bar!)

I must say that the food has such GREAT flavoring!!! :) It gives me some GREAT ideas about seasoning my RAW food so that I'm not desiring the SAD version!

Anyway, overall I like the Box and will be ordering again when I feel lazy. What I really like about it feels good not to have to "think" about what I will make for myself to eat this week!!!!!!!! But, then again, Alissa's menu in the book for the 30 days RAW does the same thing for you...except, of course, you are the one making the food...

But, I'm glad I ordered it because it gives me a chance to taste how experts fix their RAW food. But, I'm grateful for Alissa's book because it helps me to see that I can do this for myself.

Thanks for the review. Seems like most if not all of those recipes are in his book. I planned on making the summer corn salad for hubby today.

Did the mashed potatoes taste like potatoes? I have tried another recipe before and did not like it at all. Just curious. I am not fond of the cauliflower taste.

Hey Star, you give me a place to stay and I'll deliver it. :D Wanna go to Hawaii and eat pineapple on the beach. Ahhhhhhhhhh.......

Seriously, I think all of the stuff he is delivering is available in his raw book. I haven't made anything out of it yet though. Trying the corn salad this evening for my darlin.

Hi! Well...it does taste like cauliflower, but it's REALLY smooth like potatoes. I tasted the one from Alissa's book and it was kinda "chalky" to me... But, I didn't have a VitaMix, though. That might have made all the difference. I used a food processer... These are VERY smooth and creamy. I really like them! They didn't come with gravy, though!!!!

Wahhhhh? I don't think I understand. I see the words but can not comprehend potatoes with no gravy. Not making sense. *snicker* Maybe puree some of the box with a little salt and water. Voila! Gravy.

Thanks for the review! I was thinking about ordering it for a Las Vegas trip (for an industry trade show) and have it sent to the hotel/condo where we will be staying. Lord knows its hard to get a decent meal there, even on a "healthy" vegan SAD diet!

We ate really well in L.V. There are two raw/mixed food restaurants there. If I remember right, the prices were decent as well. Plus there's a Whole Foods and TJ's if I remember correctly.

Really?? Do you have the names? Ill have to look that up - maybe the restaurant section here will have it. The last time I was in LV was 1997 so I'm sure a lot has changed. :)

Nice post Renee!! so thanks for posting!

Anyway, overall I like the Box and will be ordering again when I feel lazy.

If I ordered it when I felt lazy, that would be like all the time.:o :p

Do you know what the ingredients were in mashed potatoes? It's so rare I hear someone like the mashed potatoes. I'm guessin' it wasn't cauliflower:rolleyes:
