I have a few questions I would like to ask you Rawbies out there....

(1) How much dehydrated food do you consume daily/weekly?

(2) Does your diet consist mostly of Smoothies?

(3) Do you find if difficult to decide what to eat throughout the day?

Hi Renee!
1)I don't eat a lot of dehydrated foods. I've been eating a lot of dates lately, though, but it's not a regular thing for me.
2) It really does! I drink a few smoothies a day. I also drink mylks, I consider those smoothies too.
3) I don't really find it difficult to decide what to eat, I just sort of look around and see what looks good. Or I'll be in the mood for something specific. Or, if I'm craving and I don't know what to eat, I just think about what elements of the food I'm craving and then whip something up to replace it. Like, if I'm craving something sweet and salty I'll drizzle some agave on some walnuts and sprinkle some sea salt on top :)

(1) How much dehydrated food do you consume daily/weekly?
One serving (whatever that is) every other day on average. It depends on what is. I rarely have dehydrated fruit. Its mostly chips and crackers.

(2) Does your diet consist mostly of Smoothies?
I may have 1-2 smoothies a day (one green and one fruit) not including nut milks. Sometimes I may have none. I cant just have smoothies or I would be drinking all day.

(3) Do you find if difficult to decide what to eat throughout the day?
I make sure I keep my kitchen stocked at all times. I keep a wide variety of fruits, veggies, at least 8 types of nuts, seeds, etc. I eat what I'm in the mood for; its not as hard as it used to be.

I think it's different for everyone, plus it also depends on how long people are eating raw (usually people tend to eat simpler over time).
I started 14 months ago, high raw in the beginning, then 50% for about a year, and nowadays almost 100%.

How much dehydrated food do you consume daily/weekly?
None. I don't own a dehydrator. I'm not very fond of nuts or seeds, I prefer fresh produce. I used to eat dates, but now I don't care for them anymore.

Does your diet consist mostly of Smoothies?
No, I eat/drink none at all. Until a few weeks before, I drank lots of fruit smoothies, usually one a day and in the beginning even more. But nowadays I prefer to eat fruit whole.

Do you find if difficult to decide what to eat throughout the day?
No, not really. I have a global schedule in mind (fruit in the morning, vegetables and fat the rest of the day), but I actually eat what I like, whenever I'm hungry. However, I (hardly) ever eat fruit together with vegetables or fat, I feel it's better for my digestion. If I feel like supplementing (natural yeast supplement and spirulina), I do so.
When I first started raw, I did make some sort of meal plan, because it really helped me to stick to it (well, as much as humanly possible anyway :D). Nowadays, I just go with the flow.

#1.. no dehydrator.. no dehydrated food..
A friend of mine has a dehydrator, and i tried some crackers but they made me intensely thirsty.

#2.
(fruit in the morning, vegetables and fat the rest of the day), i have found this to be a super healthful way of eating..
i think it is a 'global eating plan' ( if you insist ) , but it also is good food combining , and really seems to help good digestion..
the only thing i add to that is i have one more fruit drink or piece of fresh fruit in the evening, after my vegetable meal has been digested.

#3..cannot remember the number three question..
i may have all the questions wrong and in the wrong order.. apologies.. too early in the morning..

yes, i do have smoothies..in the morning, and maybe a 'more watery smoothie; last thing at night.

my vegetable meal may be partly blended, but not a green smoothie , fruit laden type.. no fruit at all in this meal, infact.
avocados excepted.

this has been the best for me.
been about 4-5 months( time flies..) 99.99 percent raw.( had cooked veggies for two meals..just for fun about three months ago.)

1) I have a dehydrator, but I don't use it much and prefer fresh simple whole foods.

2) I would probably do smoothies if I could tolerate bananas. I prefer green juices

3) It's not difficult at all! If I'm hungry and I see an apple, guess what I'll be eating? Just grab and go. It really IS fast food :p You can make it as simple or complicated as you want.

Morning RAWbies!!!

Thanks for the feedback!!! (Question 1) I really find this interesting because I thought that, for the most part, everyone was eating mostly dehydrated foods and smoothies.

(Question 2) I really do appreciate the feedback to the smoothie question also, because I do see the value in green smoothies, I just can't seem to find one that I really enjoy. I do like the smooth ones made with Banana/Mango or Blueberry/Almond Milk, but I would like to find another one that I like just as much. And, I thought, "Maybe what I'm lacking is not drinking more smoothies throughout the day..."

(Question 3) When I look at some of the beautiful dishes on the site I often asked myself, "Does everyone eat this way on a daily basis?" I was beginning to feel overwhelmed about "what to make for lunch" and "what to make for dinner". I still have a long way to go before I know what my body "wants"...

I love the fact that there are others out there who are able to stick to eating 100% RAW foods for any length of time...especially those who have to still cook for families!!! Having to "decide" what to make for them and the having to "decide" what to make for myself is getting EXHAUSTING!!!

Thanks everyone for your answers!!! When I read what you're doing it helps!!!

I have a dehydrator, but rarely use it.

Yes, green smoothies are a staple of mine.

I prefer to eat simple whole foods, so have no difficulty finding something to eat. If I want something a little heavier, I'll add avos and/or process some quick and easy pates, wrap them up in romaine, and add some sliced tomatoes, or whatever.

I'm a Newbie/Rawbie so I don't have it all down pat. Here is what I do:

(1) How much dehydrated food do you consume daily/weekly? Not a lot. I mostly make flax crackers and some zucchini chips.

(2) Does your diet consist mostly of Smoothies? I have a green smoothie in the morning. I don't usually have one later, but I could. I usually make a veggie juice later in the day. I have a big salad with avocado, assorted veggies and some flax crackers crunched on top or other recipes that I have discovered at lunch and dinner. I really try to listen to how I feel and what I want to eat. It might be smoothies all day, or not at all.

(3) Do you find if difficult to decide what to eat throughout the day? Yes, sometimes. Breakfast is pretty much a given with smoothies so that's not hard, but sometimes for lunch or dinner it's difficult to decide what to fix.

1) not much dehydrated food. mostly flax crackers. Used to eat dried fruits, and date but have lost my taste for them. Also used to consume more nuts, but that has changed too.
2) I do love smoothies have quite a few, and nut milks, but I like salads too, dips like guac, pico. etc
3) My motto is 'when in doubt, have a smoothie'. When I find myself foraging around, hungry but not sure what I want, I solve that very quickly!

(1) How much dehydrated food do you consume daily/weekly?
Maybe a couple of times per week.

(2) Does your diet consist mostly of Smoothies?
No. Since I've started, I have only had 5 or 6 smoothies.

(3) Do you find if difficult to decide what to eat throughout the day?
No. I usually eat fruit for breakfast. If hungry before lunch, I may have more fruit or something I prepared the prior day, like a brownie or cookies. Lunch may be a salad or something left over from the day before (Angel Hair Pasta, Eggplant pizza, etc.). Dinner may be an entree', fruit or dessert...similar to lunch. I may have a little fruit later in the evening if I am hungry. I occasionally have a smoothie for either breakfast or lunch.

1) Very little really. I've tried some and most are good but I really don't bother most of the time. Really, the most I use my dehydrator is when I'm preparing foods to take backpacking.

2) No, not really. I have a smoothie for breakfast most days except when I have sprouted grain cereal with blended fruit "soup" instead.

3) No. I eat salads mostly and so it is just a matter of tossing together whatever veggies, sprouts, etc I have ready and then toss together a few ingredients for a dressing and go with it. I rather like the fact that I don't have to think allot about the food...toss together; eat; get on with life.

1. I actually do not consume any dehydrated foods (i don't have a dehydrator either).. I live with a host lady, and i get enough queer looks, i don't want to be using her oven for 12 hours in a row lol.. somehow, i don't want dehydrated foods so far :)
2. No- i tend to drink them sooo fast and still be hungry even though my stomach is about to explode hmm.. but green smoothies are amazing- maybe i have one small one a day.. sometimes two. it depends
3. Sometimes.. but actually, when i have several salad dressings and enough ingredients- the salad options are sooo vast! and it's not just salad, yesterday i had broccoli with "cashew cheese" and some sushi with nuts and avocado :D

Oh fun! Questionnaires!

(1) Not very much. Dehydrated foods are mostly a treat. THough I do have 2 pizza crusts in there right now. And I love the kale chips!!! I would say out of the week I have 3-4 meals from the dehydrator.

(2) Mostly at breakfast. THough sometimes if I am having trouble with cravings I'll whip up a green smoothie.

(3) Only if I am having some detox issues where nothing sounds good. But other than that I try to keep plenty of fruits and veggies stocked.

I am in my 5th month raw.... When I first went raw - I did eat more dehydrated foods than I am right now .... but also - I am very busy right now so I anticipate that my intake will increase a bit ...

(1) Currently - I mostly have been making Goddess chips, onion bread or flax crackers. I find I'm making about two batches of those a month. The bread will last me about 4 days (I give 1/2 the batch to my bff), and actually I haven't made flax crackers in over a month - (just no time to make them... but now that I'm talking about it - I think I'll make a batch tonight!)

when my schedule returns more to normal - I plan on making at least 1 meal a week in the dehydrator - (i'm want to make pizza and Alissas enchiladas)

(2) My diet consists of 0 smoothies. Due to the 'can't eat fruit' issue that I'm dealing with - smoothies are out for me. Bummers too cuz I was really lovin my spinach smoothies - but not only was I gaining A LOT of weight - I was suffering vertigo and RLS and other stuff... so - fruit and smoothies - out... :(

(3) occassionally I find myself staring in the fridge. But mostly I find myself eating intuitively at the moment. I seem to be on a very intense salad kick lately. Various greens with kale ... I'm wanting lots and lots of kale and cherry tomatoes. I find myself eating kale dipped in goddess dressing thru out the day - and popping cherry tomatoes in my mouth constantly... I dunno -- jes givin my body what its wanting.

when I have the onion bread - I also make the eggless egg salad and make sandwiches with sprouts...

PLUS -- I'M EATING COCONUT OIL 3 times a day (between 1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon at a time).

(1) How much dehydrated food do you consume daily/weekly? One or two meals a week.
(2) Does your diet consist mostly of Smoothies? about half. :) I have a large green smoothie & a cacao smoothie every day.
(3) Do you find if difficult to decide what to eat throughout the day? Nope. The only meal I'm not usually sure about is dinner and I default to a salad unless I'm craving something warm.
