Does anyone know the level of toxins in hair dye? I color my hair regularly and now am very concerned that after going raw for a week or so and coloring my hair I would be taking many steps backwards.

I had the same concern when I went raw... I don't know the levels, but I know they are all chemicals and I did not want to put anymore of those on my head.
I found a brand at Whole Foods... I forget the name, but all the dyes are plant-based with no chemicals. Its a european brand, I think and is more expensive than the standard dyes. I used it last month and had good results and many compliments which is always nice. Then there is always the henna option also. Good Luck!

dahlila,
thanks for the information, I have seen them and wonder if they hold color or cover grey very well.

grassygirl -
if you are using regular coloring brands that you buy at the drugstore -than yes, they are way high. I don't know the exact numbers though. All that stuff get absorbed by your scalp and goes into your blood stream. Same thing with the shampoos and conditioners you use - actually anything you use on your scalp or skin. Perms are probably worse than colors - that is why they tell pregnant women not to use them. If you are looking to lessen your toxic load, yes, please give them up.
Have you tried henna? That is the most natural toxin free coloring you can use. Also, I don't know if you have heard but wheatgrass is supposed to get rid of grey and return hair to natural color. (I think it is just drinking the wheatgrass - I don't know if putting in on your scalp with help).
Also, if you want to know more, look at the Wiki link here:

Hair coloring ingredients have been known to cause cancer and contain a potential poison. It is bad stuff.

If you go to your health store, you can buy "all natural" hair colour. I have tried "HERBATINT" in their "10N honey blonde shade", and although it doesnt work as well as the regular hair colour, I still recommend it. Beware.. it's aprox $16.00 per box!

queenfluff - I never thought of wheatgrass helping my hair, my husband and I now grow it so for the past two weeks we have had 2 oz in am and 2 oz in pm. I am excited about the benefits helping my hair. But I feel so horrible about coloring my hair last night, I can literlly taste nasty stuff today. yuk Maybe I should juice a day and detox.
trinity082482- thanks for the info. wow your stats!!
