Just back from doctor and my body has absolutely no thiamine. 'Splains alot of what I have been going through. But, after the Rx for thiamine runs out I need to eat the right foods to maintain and I am having difficulty finding food tables that are raw vegan that helps to target specific nutrients. (Only found 1 good one.) I would like to compare several. So if you know of others please share.

My search is coming up with all kinds of wacky stuff including several links for some new stuff called "Juvo" that is freeze-dried but they call it raw vegan.

were you a "no grains" raw vegan?

My understanding is that wheat and other grains will give you thiamine, and B-vitamins in general.

I sometimes take a b-complex supplement that includes B-12 also, on occasion.

Maybe start by looking at some of the grains and how much thiamine they contain.

You can look up any foods in this nutrition database, for any nutrient.

Just curious how long have you been raw vegan, and what is your diet like. Did any other deficiencies show up that we could help you with?

Thanks exurb and RawCutter!

I have been trying to sprout grain but it keeps getting moldy before I think it is green enough so am going to have to try the fridge or wait till it gets cold. Honestly I have been so sick that the fact I attempted at all is amazing. But now that I know I can take a Rx for thiamine hopefully it will boost my productivity.

Oh exurb, regarding your other question. Turns out this deficiency is caused by fibromyalgia. It has other causes as well but in my case the only cause on the list that applies is the fibro. They didn't find anything else nor did they tell me if they tested me for everything. This one alone is scary because of the heart pain palpitations and flutterings and I am so hoping this supplement is my final answer to everything.

(I mostly eat salads and green juices. Todays salad has eggplant in it cause I had it and cause I read that eggplant has thiamine. I keep slipping to SAD because I am expected to cook for my family and I am trying to maintain family dinners together. If I eat my salad and none of the food I have prepared for them - my son will go to the freezer and get one of his pizzas - basically everyone will go their own way regarding what they eat - it won't be healthy food and none of us will have our food together - it will be like roommates not like family - kinda why I expressed frustration on another thread about not being able to make the breads and entrees due to lack of equipment.)

Luckitri, I went to the above site and discovered sunflower seeds. That should be easy to incorporate into diet, and now that I know that, I will do the same for precaution. THANKS!

The only "equipment" I use is a processor-blender which I purchased for under $40 at WalMart. I might enjoy some of the other equipment, but determined to make do with what I have, and still have more variety in my diet than I have ever had. Simply enjoy tons of fresh fruit and green smoothies. However, I could not do it without the cheapie blender we have for the smoothies.

I personally find http://www.whfoods.com/nutrientstoc.php a little easier to deal with. It looks like they might have fewer nutrients but I like the graph and it doesn't show you a bunch of non-real foods that just happen to have a high level of a certain vitamin. The worst you're going to get is meat.

I like this one, also. Here is what I learned about B1 Thiamin
Found in Very good sources of vitamin B1 include asparagus, romaine lettuce, mushrooms, spinach, sunflower seeds, tuna, green peas, tomatoes, eggplant and Brussels sprouts.

It is so easy to get mushrooms, spinach, sunflower seeds, tomatoes for sure.
