Well, it looks like I'm going to have a problem with wheat berries. I made the soft pretzel recipe posted (by beckla?) yesterday. I made two big pretzels and two 5-6" pretzel sticks. I ate one of the sticks and within 30 minutes, I started getting intestinal pain and cramping/gurgling. I had semi-diarrhea this morning. This is the first time I've had any type of digestive problem since going raw. It is also the first time I've made anything with sprouted wheat.

There were times before raw that I suspected that I had a gluten intolerance or something. Perhaps this is confirming it? I wonder if I will have the same problem with buckwheat or anything else? I was really looking forward to making those buns in Alissa's book because I have some meatloaf 'burgers' uncooking now. :(

I've read that the sprouted wheat berries do not affect gluten intolerant folks. I may be wrong, but I think I read that somewhere. Others will post here, I'm sure...

CaliRaw - try getting some whole grain spelt and sprouting those to substitute for the wheat in recipes. many people who have wheat sensitivities have successfully substituted spelt for the wheat, myself included.

good luck!

Thanks veganforlife and catdeveer. After thinking about this, I am wondering if this may be a food combining issue. I had about a handful of grapes about an hour before having the pretzel sticks. I've felt a little bloated once or twice since being raw due to food combining issues, I believe. I'm going to try another pretzel stick tonight to see what happens. I want to make those buckwheat buns tonight, so we shall see how it goes tomorrow when they're done. Thanks again for the responses! :)

i like to just eat the wheat berries blended with whatever else i feel like. its kinda like porridge. the dehydration part just takes too much energy to digest, and i get real thirsty
