I'm just getting on the green smoothie train, and since I haven't purchased any books besides Alissa's yet, I was wondering if any of you guys have any favorite green smoothie recipes. :D

Here are a few that we like ...
oranges
pineapple
strawberries
kiwi
blueberries sometimes
and GREENS
NOTE: Do not have to use all these fruits, but I would not leave out the oranges because they make it sweeter
NOTE: Like to add coconut oil to this one - makes it really creamy
bananas
mangos
blueberries
grapes sometimes
acai sometimes
and GREENS
NOTE: Do not have to use all these fruits - the banana makes it really sweet and creamy.
apples
sometimes pears
celery
cucumber
almond butter
LOTS OF ICE - VERY REFRESHING
Sometimes add fresh aloe vera
My husband's favorite (usually make on the weekend and take to the pool!!)...
young coconut - meat and water (could use banana instead or both)
raw chocolate & sweetener
and GREENS
I like to add ice to make them really cold. Add water to thin. Worked up to adding a lot of GREENS, so mine usually need a little help to make them taste sweeter. I use several drops of liquid stevia being very careful not to add to much, or it will not taste good, OR just add agave to taste. The agave is probably better for starting out, especially if trying to get someone to really like them. Also, probably best to not add a lot of GREENS at first - you want it to taste really good, and then as the body begins to get used to all the GREENS add a little more every week or so. If you are trying to trick someone (like my nephew and my Dad), add blueberries to make it look purple instead of green, except for the chocolate and the apple/pear one.
Hope you enjoy,
Sharon
My absolute favorite and most simple recipe:
1 large orange (best in winter when it's orange season)
1 large handful of spinach.
Vrooom in the VM until smooth.
Perfection in a glass.
Another favorite:
Greenie Good
5 Kale leaves
1 pear (riper the sweeter)
1 kiwi (green or gold)
1 heaping spoon of coconut oil
half lime peeled
ice & water
Makes 32 ounces, give or take how much water you put in.

My new favorite green is the one I tried at Victoria Boutenko's talk--dandelion! It's a weed so it's supposed to be very good for you, probably better than a lot of non-weed greens even. She made a dandelion + banana gs that was great, very mild and lightly sweet. I don't like to buy bananas since they're not locally grown, so instead I've been doing dandelion + orange + peach (and sometimes + romaine too). I also like peach + kiwi + chard + romaine. And peach + berries + spinach/chard/romaine/other greens. I don't measure amounts, but if it ends up tasting too green I add a drop of stevia.

the_lab_rat -
did she/you use young dandelion leaves or fully grown ones? the grown ones are verrrry bitter, i think! :)
here's my favorite green smoothie so far
3/4 c. cantaloupe
1 banaynay
1-2 c. mixed greens
1 nectarine
1 peach

If you haven't purchased Revvell's book "Smoothies and Smoozies for Life", let me tell you - you are missing something! I bought it and the recipes are wonderful! The photos are magnificant. If you can't find a recipe or two or three in this book, then there is something seriously wrong! Check it out. (scroll down on her web page).

or do you just add the entire orange or what ever you are going to use including the peel
or do you take the rine peel of first
Still waiting on Alissa's book to come but blender will be here today Thank you

I did a long thread on my regular green smoothie. It is on the more lenghthy side. There are many very quick and easy ones too. I strongly suggest the book Green For Life by Victoria Botenco on green smoothies it is wonderful!
If the link does not work go to Erin's Superman Breakfast Smoothie. I also did one called The Smoothie Raport. Both have pictures:p

When I am pressed for time my favorite is just:
Parsley/spinach
.5c water
1 whole peeled grapefruit
1 whole peeled orange
I like tart things, you could just do whole oranges and no grapefruit.
One of the things I learned from the book is that green drinks can be sweet OR savory and I loved that as I dont always want a "sweet fruity" drink!

My current fave is this one, it's tart, sweet and spicy!
kale leaves (about 4 dinosaur kale)
1 apple, seeded and cored
1 peeled lemon
about 1" of ginger (or more)
about 2 cups water, maybe a little ice
some raw agave syrup to taste
Whiz it all in the Vitamix or Blendtec. If you're using a regular blender you will need to peel the ginger and maybe add the juice of a lemon instead of the whole lemon and you may want to peel the apple.

A question about green smooties...
I thought you were not supposed to combine fresh fruit with anything else? How come it's ok in the case of "green smoothies"

Where can I get agave nectar? I've heard many people talking about it...I don't know what it is (at least I don't think I've seen this fruit before). Do you buy the nectar or the whole fruit and juice it??

Here is my routine:
The night before I peel and freeze ripe bananas in a ziploc bag. I cover one cup of almonds in water overnight in the fridge.
The next morning I add 3 cups water to a Blend-Tec blender along with the drained and soaked almonds. Blend until milk. Strain. (It is up to you whether you want to strain or not). Add 1/4 c. flax seeds. This is basic.
Now come the variations:
This morning I added frozen bananas, frozen strawberries, collard greens and a few spoonfuls of fudge from the night before. :D Yum My dh and ds really liked this.
You can add any combination of fruit and greens that you want. I like to use frozen because it "freezes" the almond milk mixture like soft serve ice cream.
I always use frozen bananas. I might add strawberries, peaches, cherries, or triple berry (blueberries, blackberries, raspberries).
For greens I like romaine lettuce, spinach, collards. Kale is hard to find in my area. I will get it if I can find it, but the other greens are easier for me to get. I tried dandilion greens before, but was not a huge fan. I'm sure they have their place, though, and they are free. :)
I'm not much of an adventurer beyond these combos. I have added oranges and frozen pineapple to the banana and almond milk for a bit of a pina colada. (No greens on this one) That's pretty good.

Hi,
I'm a newbie and this morning I just made something off the top of my head that I'm drinking now and it tastes fantastic.
1 large pineapple
milk of one coconut and meat of half of the coconut
juice of 1 lime
green leaves of 3 carrots
a handful of kale
half of a celery stalk with leaves
4 leaves of savoy cabbage/cole
water to taste, I think I added about a cup and a half

I know this is late, but Agave nectar is basically a sweetner that is derived from cactus. If you were to let it ferment any longer, it would become Tequila. lol. It comes in a bottle (like honey) and you can buy it at your local hfs (health food store). I've seen plenty of it at Whole Foods Market.
In case your curious for more info about agave nectar, check out wikipedia's article here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agave_syrup

Tinystrawberry, my 6 oz. bag of spinache says it equals 3 cups. So, I would say that a pound of greens would be approximately 8 cups. Hope that helps!

I'm challenged by green smoothies! I can't have goitergens so that eliminates spinach and kale (1 of my faves!) so this morning I used a whole head of green leaf lettuce, 1 banana, 1 mango and that was it! I planned to add agave but forgot  and still it was sooo sweet, the lettuce is so mild you can't even tast it..:p yummy

Equal amounts of:
Kale
Spinach
Frozen Papaya
With that I will throw in some water and ice and possibly half of a frozen banana depending on the consistency.
I've also been known (like yesterday) to throw in a few blueberries for fun. Since I know I like the above recipe, I will use it as a base and throw in various things for variety and experimentation.

apples
sometimes pears
celery
cucumber
almond butter
LOTS OF ICE - VERY REFRESHING
Sometimes add fresh aloe vera
That sounds good.
My current combo is:
handful of spinach
10 +/- mint leaves
1/2 a lime
3 slices of ginger
handful of pineapple
banana
and enough water to blend
The toddler is fascinated but not enough to try it. The baby, however, eats it up. Kid hears the blender and loses her little bald head.
