Reflection has brought me to pursuing turning one of my dreams in a goal and reality.

I would like to purchase a small 2 bedroom cottage or even build one with a simple design, living with just what we would need and I would like to get off the grid as much as possible- solar maybe??? I want to stay raw but I don't want to have to bring ALL the electric equipment. I want to be 100% raw by hand. So, where could you suggest I get the best information for this type of uncooking- without the gadgets? i could chop up many things but juicing and blending might be an issue and boy do I love my smoothies. Any ideas??? Many thanks and God bless you all!!! :)

Cheers,

Heather

You could get a manual juicer for juicing. As for blending, I don't know. I will have to think about that one.

Maybe you could mix the pulp back in after you juice to make a smoothie. Not sure what the consistency would be like.

Heather you can get a hand cranked blender. I used to have a big book that was from Gaiam that was a source book for all things solar, sustainable, etc., and it was in their catalogue. Go to www.gaiam.com, put in blender, and the "Vortex Blender", a human powered blender will come up.

You can also make a solar dehydrator very easily, it won't have a thermostat, but they work great on sunny days. Google it, and you will see that they're very basic to put together. They are designed to create a draft so the effect is very similar to a dehydrator, plus you get the added benefit of the sun for things like sundried tomatoes.
