I want to change my Avatar. I keep getting "image too big." I don't know how to make the image smaller. Any ideas? I did it once or maybe I just got lucky.

Kristi,
I'm not much of a computer whiz but I'll give it a go.

You should have a program on your computer that you can veiw and manipulate pictures with, (I have photoshop pro). If you open your picture in your program there should be a prompt on your toolbar that will enable you to change it's size. It may give you options like inches or pixals. Choose pixals and just make it 100x100 then save it.
hope I was able to help.

Ok, I did that. Changed it to 150x150 then 100x100. Now it says the megasomethings are too big.

Here it is:
The file that you have tried to attach is too big. The maximum size is 20000 bytes.

Next suggestion?

(some moderator, huh?)

Kristi,

My oldest son offers this advice:

1. Make sure that you chose pixals instead of inches before you save it.
2. If there is an option to reduce canvas size, reduce that as well as the image size.
3. Make sure when you save it to save it as a JPG

Also he asked me what image program were you useing?

ACDsee for Pentax.

Size in pixels......check!
Saved as JPG.....check!

Can't find anything about canvas size.

I'm still trying......keeps me busy during insomnia.

I got it to work as a profile picture....just not avatar.

Kristi,

One other thing...When I saved mine, I used the save as button and my computer copied and saved my picture so when i went to look for it in my picture folder I had two and I had to figure out which one was which.

Thanks. I've got several copies out there. I'm probably doing something silly. I'll figure it out. Did you check out my new lid???

Uh-oh! Now I did it! Lost my avatar completely. I don't know why avatar and profile picture are so different. Just when I think I understand computers! Aaarrgghh!

I keep reminding my kids that I was born when you still had to pull down a lever to make the adding machines work (before calculators) and I haven't even gotten used to them yet.

I don't know how I did it but I did.......not the exact picture I wanted but hey, more true to life.

I remember those adding machines. I told my son about manual typewriters.....he said, "what's a typewriter." We only had 4 electric typewriters in our school. You had to have 50 wpm to get on one and you'd do challenges to see if you could beat out someone for the coveted 4 slots!

Thanks for you help!
