Dear Greengirl,
It's called the "prestige factor", what this means is that you have been taught or programmed to believe that doctors know more about your body than you do.
This often is associated with lawyers, policement, firemen, doctors, nurses, etc.
Usually someone who has gone to college and learned some specific information that most laymen don't know.
So, you are not alone, many people believer doctors over them selves.
The trick is to look at the doctor and see if they look totally and completely healthy. The one thing I noticed when I used to go to doctors about 30 years ago, is they were overweight, had bags under their eyes, usually had red noses, and wore glasses, they had pasty complexsions and didn't smell good, so I didn't think they were very healthy.
Although some doctors are healthy, I don't necessarily think they are the norm.
Anyway, don't beat yourself up about this. Think of it as a wonderful learning experience, and then follow what your body tells you. Although I can't give medical advise, and I would never tell you not to listen to your doctor.
