Hello Everyone,

I'm new to the forum..I'm 31 year old mother of two..I've always been what i myself would consider heathly ever since i can remember.. I got married three years ago to a very nice man BUT , he's not interested in health at all.. His WHOLE Family is sickly.. This still hasn't help him see that eating the S.A.D diet isn't good for us.. In trying to keep the peace i decided to just give in and cook and eat what he likes but time and time again i would get sick or feel really really tired.. I then decide to go back to eating again what i considered to be a healthy lifestyle.. I got pregnant and seven months after my son was born i was told he (my son) had and still has atopic dermetitis.. I've been given the creams to rub on him but it's hasn't helped just made it worse.. when my son was 1 year i got pregnant again and 9 months later i had my daughter and she seemed fine.. she just turned one year this month and now when i look at her skin she has the dry patches on her arms and under her neck.. i just heard about this raw eating lifestyle a few months ago and ever since i've been reading on it and listening to revvell's radio program to better understand this way of life.. i do admit that I am scared in my heart i want my self and my family to be the healthest we can be ..but this is a lifestyle that will cause myself and my children to be looked at like we are crazy by my family and friends... I would like some advice on what to do.. I'm a african american women and where i'm from this is unheard of to eat this way. where should i begin?.. i would also like to know one of the things my husband complains about it the fact that organic is so expensive.. i would like to know is it still possible to acheive my goals of health eating from the farmers market ( it's not organic) and the regular store? I was told by my son's doctor to keep him away from nuts ,but it seems like alot of the raw recipes call for nuts so what should i do.. Can anyone out there tell me if this lifestyle will help my son's skin problems? I'm soo sorry if this is soo long..

Thanks eveyone

Welcome!

i would like to know is it still possible to acheive my goals of health eating from the farmers market ( it's not organic) and the regular store?

I do. So I think yes! SOME things can be bought organic for the same, if not cheaper while on sale, as normal produce. Just make sure to wash everything well. I buy maybe 50% or less of my produce organic right now, because I LOVE apples and melons, but they are FAR TOO EXPENSIVE non organic.

Well, sometimes people will judge or make comments because it is out of the unfortunate "ordinary", or because they feel badly and thus defensive that they are not taking the initiative and controlling their health as you are. It's your life and YOUR HEALTH, no one else is going to take care of your body for you. If it's important you'll find a way. You don't have to go out and proclaim to the world that you're eating raw, just do your thing and smile and nod. If people are offended that you won't eat at a restaurant with them, explain that you'll eat before you go and you'll give them your company while they eat. After all, it SHOULD be about the company and togetherness in the first place, and NOT about the food. My friends have come to accept that, and it actually makes them realize MORE how much I care about them, that I'm willing to sit and watch them eat just for their company.

? I was told by my son's doctor to keep him away from nuts ,but it seems like alot of the raw recipes call for nuts so what should i do..

yeah alot of the recipes have nuts, but raw can be VERY ENJOYABLE in it's simplicity. You can play around with things and not add nuts, or add oat groats in their place...or just dont make the nutty recipes. You can have endless salad concoctions, make banana ice cream, make avocado chocolate pudding, and use coconuts.avocado for the fatty creamy texture of things. Raw is very adjustable. I hope you'll keep browsing these forums and find recipes you like that don't have nuts! Like the eggless deviled egg spread recipe for example: I don't use cashews, I use avocado and pulse chop cauliflower into it. So things can be switched around.

Good luck and welcome!

Don't be afraid to be different, I truely believe that there are generational curses and we can change them by stepping out and being different. If you continue to be the way your family has always been things won't change, sometimes that means going against the grain and being looked at in a weird way but people will eventually see why and maybe they won't, that is ok.

You should do what makes you feel better. Just think if you change now the next generation of your family will be healthier and happier people because you took a different road then what most people take.

As for being African American, that I am or black you might say, I choose to live a healthy lifestyle regardless of what other people think and yes people think it's weird and make crazy comments but they just don't understand it.

You can do this, take it one day at a time, think about the future of your family and they're family. You can make a difference.
