I've noticed that a lot of recipes call for young coconut. If one doesn't have young coconut, but just regular old brown coconut, is it okay to substitute (I'm thinking more of blended type recipes).

well brown coconuts are hard (the meat) so it's harder to blend...and also most of the time the water isn't sweet...try it out and see :)
