View Full Version : Am I Drinking REAL Wheatgrass?

I'm starting to wonder. I get it from my local health food store. The reason I'm wondering is because I keep reading how horrible this stuff is supposed to taste and the stuff I'm drinking isn't so bad at all. Goes down rather smooth, I'd say.
Could it just be me? After all, during the decades I was a nightclub musician, I drank straight shots of tequila like it was milk. Maybe I'm just not sensitive anymore.
Jeez, I hope there's no such thing a counterfeit wheatgrass out there!

Hi Brute- good to see you, so to speak. Well, do you see them take grass and cut it and feed it into the machine?

If it tastes good, your body must simply be wanting it. So many people can't stand it, and after reading Victoria Boutenko books, apparently their digestive juices aren't ready for it yet.

:o

Hey there. I think wheatgrass is a love it or hate it thing. I love it. My fresh wheatgrass tastes like licorice, sweet licorice to me. I've heard other say they hate it.
Is yours a reliable brand?

The frozen kind I meant. Before I started growing mine, I would buy frozen. Forgot there are luxuries as to folks actually juicing it in front of one!!!
my bad...

I would venture to say he's juicing it himself. He started a thread where he said he's healing his rotator cuff doing so much juicing with the manual Healthy Juicer.

Sorry everybody! I should have made it clear that I juice the grass myself. I buy a rather large, $12 plastic bag of it provided to the store by an outfit called Ocean Grown Farms in Alva, Florida. Alva is about forty miles from where I live. Their brochure claims their wheatgrass is the "finest, sweetest, and most pleasant wheatgrass juice you will ever taste."
Seeing as how it's the only wheatgrass juice I've ever tasted, I really can't complain. Maybe there is some nasty-tasting stuff out there somewhere.

Personally I enjoy wheatgrass...I didn't use to like it, but when my body began to crave it and I realised that it satisfied my cravings, I began to appreciate its taste a bit more.

I've always loved wheatgrass, no matter where I got it from (meaning, already juiced..I don't own a juicer). The first time I tried a shot of it from the health food store, I asked for the largest size and they warned me it tasted bitter and most people didn't like it, so I settled for the tiny size...and loved it! To me it tastes sweet like some kind of liquid candy :D So i don't think you have to worry...though it's true, some kinds seem sweeter/better than others.

See, when I first took a shot of wheatgrass (I've actually only had one) I was expecting a shock, but it was really sweet, my raw friend told me it was because it was very hybridized? I'll ask him about it again

I noticed that the longer I was raw the more I craved things such as the taste of wheatgrass. I think this is because our tastes become more and more accustomed over time to the foods we were meant to consume.

Whenever I have to go to the hospital for tests, after they are finished, I go down to the lower level to the food court and get a shot of wheatgrass juice. It is pressed right in front of me from flats that they get from a local sprout farm. YUM! It is really intense, sweet, almost a little licorice-y. The odd time I do notice a slight "grassy" aftertaste, but it is not offensive to me. Interestingly, they offer a free "chaser" of orange or pineapple juice in a little shot glass of the same size that they serve the wheatgrass juice in if you want it. I'd say that is a terrific improvement for a hospital to have a Booster Juice in their food court amongst all the other JUNK.
