I guess you won't know if I'm going to gain but have any of you ate Alissa's pizza and gained? I felt so bad about eating it last night, I was so afraid I would gain. It's so good. OMG.. SO GOOd.
I know it's not something I want to eat everyday.
I made the easy crust with the marinera and chedder cheese. My husband loved it.

The pizza is a bit nut-heavy, isn't it? But it's raw! Don't fret :)

You won't "gain" if your diet is 100% raw and you are consuming these raw goodies! Just because it's labeled pizza it does not mean fat. Enjoy!
I'm having a slice of chocolate pie for breakfast!

Yes, is flex considered a nut? I just use flex and veggies to make the crust. The cheese was of course made from nuts but I spread that on pretty thin.
I guess it reminds me so much of the sad pizza I'm afraid I'll start gaining. I only had a small circle last night but I guess it's my old thinking getting the best of me.
I'm glad I don't have a dehydrator I think I might abuse it, this food is starting to taste way to good. LOL

Yes it's 100% Raw... yah but I think it's a mind thing. I'm so afraid of gaining. Actually I don't think I have been getting enough calories as it is so maybe thsi is a good thing. I normally don't eat a lot of nuts and I know the smoothies are so low in calories I think, because I normally don't put a lot of fruit in there.

Hi Docsharp,
I after 2+ years of being raw I find that my mind still tries to play games on me regarding raw food. Its ok to eat raw foods. I find this way of living so much easier - no counting calories, no starving. Enjoy!

You should listen to Rawkin Radio from a few weeks back where they talk about these issues. In short: as long as it's raw you can eat anything you want, how ever much you want.
You might gain weight while your body still isn't clean (which might take years) but that's all temporary while your body is fixing itself.

Flax is not a nut, it's a seed - loaded w/omega 3's which SAD/CRAP eaters do not get.
Eat, eat, eat. You are eating wholesome, good foods that you WILL not gain from. It's a mindset from your old eating habits. Listen to your body. You will know when you've had too much of something! You're doing fine so far, keep it up. Drink a good deal of water to help flush stuff out. Keep drinking those green smoothies - THEY are butt kickers.
Good job girl!!!

Pizza is awsome. I used to worry about it too--esp. the amt. of nuts. But, figure how much healthier it is than the SAD version with white flour and fatty cheeses bogging a body down. When I make the crusts, I usually make extras and freeze--just pop in dehydrater to thaw and then top and back to dehydrator to warm through. It is so nice to eat until satisfied and with no guilt or worry about the waistline. Now I gotta have some pizza this weekend with mushrooms!

I've only been eating raw for 4 weeks, so I am hardly an expert. But I wanted to tell you that I really took Allisa's advice to heart when she said to eat whatever you want at the beginning, as long as it is raw. I am trying very hard not to obsess about anything - especially about "doing it perfectly", since that's always been a challenge for me. I have been eating quite a bit of nuts because I love to try new recipes and many call for nuts. I do try to make sure I get a green smoothy every day or a big salad and plenty of fruit. I haven't even been exercising - initially because of an injury and now because of the heat (I normally bicycle 15 - 30 miles every other day, but it's 97 degrees at 7:00AM here). I have lost 16 pounds in 4 weeks and my scale that measures body fat shows 1% fat loss. So I don't think the nuts are hurting me. An added benefit is my skin looks better. Some semi deep wrinkles near my eyes seem to be "filling in".
I fight worrying about it sometimes. I've read some peoples journal and it seems I eat so much more than they do - but then I look at my results and I think I'm doing pretty well.
So enjoy your pizza Docsharp!
Blessings,
Robyn

I, too, am new to RAW. Coming up on 4 weeks Monday. I am losing about a pound per week. I do not count calories. I enjoy eating RAW! Love being able to eat and not worry about gaining. Don't understand how, but it just happens. I know nothing about RAW . . . but I believe I started my loss when I started pigging out (every day) on avocados. I usually eat two per day. I start the day off with green smoothie, then a couple of hours later I have an avocado usually with tomato and onion (I crave this but soon it will be something else I am sure. For lunch I have a BIG salad with all kinds of good stuff including another avocado. In the afternoon I eat lots of fruit and nuts. Sometimes half a watermelon, whole cantaloupe or 4 or 5 peaches. Never bother to count calories because I refuse to obsess about weight any more!
Could you share with me the pizza recipe, please. THANKS!

I don't have an answer to your question, but you sure do make this sound very good! I have been debating on which pizza (with crust) to make. I think I will make this one!

docsharp,
The recent pizza recipe I made was actually taking Alissa's calzone crust recipe and shaping them to personal pan pizza size and dehydrating. Topped one with avocado I had blended smooth and topped with soaked sundried tomato strips and mushrooms and piped the ricotta cheese in little star shapes kind of randomly all over as decoration. So many things to do with the pizzas and so much fun to let the "kid" in you play with your food.

Docsharp,
One of the things with this way of eating that is hard for me to remember is that we don't have to feel guilty about eating. This isn't a "diet". We can eat anytime we're hungry. And foods like "pizza" and "ice cream" aren't unhealthy and won't make us gain. I have to keep reminding myself of the same thing. I can't get over the fact that many nights I'm making myself a dessert before bed, and I still wake up lighter in the morning. We have to reprogram our brains. This isn't like any other "diet". Everything we eat nourishes our body and is only giving it good things, instead of bad.
Isn't it wonderful?!?

Thanks. I am not extremely computer literate. The website gives a picture and a recipe but it does not copy and paste. Could someone post the recipe. I would be forever grateful. We love pizza, but have not eaten it in years!
I have made a few raw pizza recipes over the months and both times it affected my weight and I gained. I however was the only one eating it and so I ate pretty much the whole recipe both times over 3-4 days time. Both times I gained weight. Not sure if it was because I don't generally eat a lot of dehydrated food or if I just ate too much. I won't be making the recipe again unless I plan on bringing it to a raw food potluck because it is just so wonderful and I lose self control. I also contemplated making it and freezing it in portions to eat later and then taking out when I want it. Don't know how it would taste after being frozen though.

2 Cups Sprouted Buckwheat
1 Cup Flax Seeds, soaked
1 Cup Red Bell Pepper
1 Whole Carrot
1 Whole Celery Stalk
1 Clove of Garlic
1/8 teaspoon Sea Salt

2 Large Cloves of Garlic
1 teaspoon Sea Salt
1/2 Cup Water
Chedder Cheesy
1/2 Cup Pine Nuts
1/2 Cup Macadamia Nuts
1/2 Cup Sunflower Seeds
1 1/2 Cup Red Bell Pepper
1/2 of a Peeled Lemon
2 Cloves of Garlic
1 Tablespoon Bragg Liquid Aminos
Marinara Sauce
2 1/2 Cups Tomatoes
12 Whole Sundried Tomatoes, soaked
3 Whole Dates, pitted and soaked
1/4 Cup Olive Oil
4 Cloves of Garlic
2 Tablespoons Parsley (optional)
1/8 teaspoon Cayenne
1 teaspoon Sea Salt
Pizza Toppings
Any assorted vegetables of your choice. I like to use avocado, mushrooms, spinach, onions, etc.
For the Crust, combine all ingredients for whichever crust recipe you are using in a food processor until well blended and smooth.
Second, remove from processor and place on a Teflex sheet on top of a mesh dehydrator screen.
Third, smooth crust into 1/4 inch thick large circle.
Fourth, make the edge of the circle a bit thicker, like a pizza crust would be. Now place the crust in your dehydrater for 2 hours at 105 degrees, then flip off of the Teflex sheet and onto the mesh dehydrator screen and dehydrate for another couple of hours until firm but not hard or crispy.
For the Cheese, in a food processor, blend the cheese ingredients until smooth and creamy.
For the Sauce, in a food processor, blend the tomato sauce ingredients until smooth.
To Assemble, remove crust from the dehydrator and flip the crust back to its original side before topping so you have the thick outer crust that you molded facing upward. Now, spread the cheese sauce over the pizza crust. (Leave a 1/4 inch of space near the edges of the crust). Take your Marinara Sauce and pour it over the cheese on the crust. Next, take your toppings you have chosen and place them on the top of the sauce. Last, take your pizza and place it back into the dehydrator and continue to dehydrate the pizza at 105 degrees for 6 to 10 hours, depending on the desired texture.
Note: I usually put the cheese sauce underneath the tomato sauce because it looks prettier and is easier to spread. You can use any cheese sauce you prefer... you can also use a small amount of cheese and sauce to make the pizza extra thin if you don't like it too thick. Experiment with the toppings and dehydrating times to suit your taste.
