I just want to know if there is anyone who is doing the 30 day challenge blog who is about my age. I'm 25. And/or someone who is in regular health. I've read some things but find most people have actual health issues. I don't really. just some chronic neck and shoulder pain, tiredness, and slight insomnia which I take pills for. nothing major. But I just want to read of someone's story who is of my age and average health.

Heh, I thought you were 82. I was thinking: wow, she's old to start raw. :)

Anyway, I'm 31 which to me is like 25. No major health issues although there is always stuff to improve. It's not like I'm perfectly healthy yet...

I started in January this year, slowly. Now I've been 100% raw for a few weeks. This is my second "try". After my first month (May) I started binging on crap food like pizza's (though still vegetarian). In July I started eating 100% again although it's always a transition that takes a while. Now I'm no longer worried about "falling off the wagon".

Today I got cravings for rye bread and hummus so I sat myself down and allowed myself to indulge for 5 minutes in cravings about all kinds of food like pizzas and diet coke -- and then I ate two bananas and didn't think about it anymore. The thoughts came, I accepted them, and they passed. :)

see I'm really glad to see that we can do that. this is day 2 for me. I'm not doing the 30 day challenge b/c it's supposed to be 100% raw. I need to transition some to do this. I am still gathering information and still getting some appliances. I'm not sure how you calculate your percentage. but everything I ate yesterday except for a small sandwhich, was raw. Today will be the same. I have school at night so it can be a little difficult. But being only day two, i'm doing okay.
My other challenge is that my DH and I live with his mom. we recently moved in to help her out some. So I don't have my kitchen space. her kitchen is already small as it is...... and then there isn't much place to put things, to prepare, or to store, or to refrigerate. soooo, I'm working on that.

BUT, I'm way too determined to do this. oh, and i wasn't vegan or vegitarian before this. Just your regular SAD kind of girl from Texas, where ranch dressing and dip goes with everything. :)
I'm very determined

Hi,

I am 26 - will be 27 in a few days. I have been attempting raw for 24 days. Many days I ate all raw. Others I broke down and ate pizza or some other cooked item. I am making it a life long journey rather than a 30 day challenge. No real health issues, thank goodness. Would like to lost about 5lbs but that is not really a health issue. :D

Hi, I'm 30, and really that's almost 25 (most people think I look like I'm 25... Does that count?) :) .
But just wanted to say: I don't have any health problems at all and I'm not overweight or underweight either.
I have always had rather good health, and have always been interested in lifestyle and diet as way of maintaining and even bettering my sense of well being.
I started the whole raw food thing, because I was really interested in having móre energy... To be able to do more of the things I love and just life more fully!
I eat high raw at the moment and there seem to be more and more days I eat all raw. I'm not pushing myself into 100% raw though, because it doesn't feel right at the moment. I'm trying to do it as relaxed and enjoyable as possible, just taking it slowly, one step at a time, and see where it will take me.

I'm 25. :) OK, well I've been saying that for a few months now, but my birthday is actually on Monday. So I'm 24 and 362/265ths? haha

I have "small" issues that only seem to go away on raw, but they're major to me... like major mood swings, inability to concentrate for more than a short time (was diagnosed ADD, took Ritalin for years), horrible belly aches, fatigue.

When I can manage to treat my body properly (ie raw, water, exercise, peace!), it's AMAZING how good I feel and how much I enjoy every aspect of my life.

Hi! I am 24 and don't have any major health issues. I'm a little overweight (by maybe 10 lbs but would like to rid myself of 20) thanks to having my 3rd baby. She's 1 1/2 and I know I can't use that excuse forever, lol. I am tired all of the time, have eczema, mood swings, irritability...and bloat! Hoping to rid myself of those ailments. I'm going through a transition at this point in my life, taking back control (thanks to a pending divorce) and my health is one of those things thats on the top of my list. I don't want to be sick when I grow old! Plus I need the energy for my girls now that I'm no longer a stay at home mom and don't get to spend as much time with them like I use to. I don't like being too tired for them. They are 6, 4, and 1...full of energy! Oh, and I want them to be healthy as well. No more fried chicken and french fries! Today is day 1 for me.

awesome!!!
Ya, I'm about 5 pounds over weight but could definitely stand to lose a few dress sizes. All my weight is in my hips and legs. :(
I mainly started this b/c I was tired of being tired. I have insomnia as well, and so far, I've had to take less and less of my sleeping meds. AND THIS IS JUST DAY 6 FOR ME!!! yay!!
Maybe it can help with my ADHD. I hope.

With 3 youngin's you need all the energy you can get!! GOOD LUCK! And we are in this together!:D

hey yous guys... im from texas too! im 22, and am living in shanghai, china. i started raw a few days ago. im doing the thirty day challenge, however, i want to go all the way. it seems to me that i can do all or nothing. ive been a vegetarian for almost one year (in november). so, i read that everyone isnt really overweight. i am. so im doing this for health reasons... and the dairy in china sucks. i cannot eat it, so i might as well go vegan. but, i could totally over do it here, even vegan, so i want to follow a plan that is guaranteed to make me feel better, and look better too. three days and counting. i have yet to buy the book, and intend to when i get paid. i have some concerns about getting some of the required items for the recipies. there isnt much of a health food market out here... so im worried about that. plenty of fruits and veggies, but as far as things like dates, and dehydrators go... who knows. im excited, and i hope to keep with it, and share results. peace.

I'm 25 as well. Most people would describe me as healthy, but I wouldn't. Oh, sure, I have decent endurance. Sure I can go do some parkour. But to me, this doesn't matter, because I conceive myself as being able to do much more than I currently can.

I'm coming out of that SAD boat as well. I was always the one who couldn't stick to a diet. I thought they were either silly or unnecessary. But after much experimentation with food, I have come to realize its true importance to the body and mind. I'm mature enough now to accept the fact that many so-called "foods" only slow the body down. I know now why so-called enlightened people eat very little.

I'm not going raw. But I do plan to go on a permanent diet of mostly fruits, nuts, and grains. Even after a couple of days, I already feel a lot better. I know too much now to return to the SAD way of eating. My health has become more important to me than a tasty treat. Actually, most SAD foods aren't all that tasty to begin with.

Now I just need to lose about ten pounds, and I'm set.

I just turned 25 less than a month ago, does that count? :p
I went raw because I had a lump removed from my right breast and after I had found one for the 2nd time in my left breast this time, I F-R-E-A-K-E-D!, You can only imagine lol.... everyone thought I was crazy when I refused to eat cooked food.. I ate everything in its natural form for about 2 weeks until I heard about the raw food diet and I went along with it!

i'm 26 i just posted a little backstory in another thread. i'll paste it.

i was on depo provera (BC) for 5 years:eek: from age 20-25. i loved it at the time, no periods and in a serious relationship.

BUT eventually i started losing my libido and becoming...this blank person.
i had back pain, joint pain and a benign fibroadenoma that had been removed. i started wondering why i was letting some nurse practitioner stick a needle in my hip every 3 months.

so i started googling and found shelly borsits' site and read about all her ailments she healed with raw food. i became obsessed and researching all that i could. at the time i was a vegetarian (ovo-lacto) and knew i was not healthy.

then, i found alissa's site and ordered her book and dvd immediately. it was fascinating and it made sense, but i basically held on to it for the past 2 years and made excuses why i could not go raw.

a few weeks ago i decided that i was fed up (literally hahaha) and pulled out alissa's book, emptied my mostly bare pantry and donated to friends the little bit of temptation i had left in my kitchen.

and, here i am:D

anyway, i just think the human body is amazing and i want mine to be the best it can be.

hello ladies. im 21 im from los angeles, i dont have any health issues just 10 lbs over weight but would love to lose 30. we can all relate to that right? haha. i really just want to be the healthiest that i can possibly be. raw people are beautiful. they're so easy to point out in a big crowd. their shiny hair, bright eyes and glowing skin and they are usually all super sweet and just love life. i wish there was more people like that. and to be honest another reason im going raw is because people have started to annoy me more often than usual and i feel like maybe its a thing with age. and i really dont want to be a bitter old lady. bitter about growng up probably. well i hope to keep in tough with all you ladies. i would love to share stories and journeys. im actually going to do the juice feast for 92 days starting tomorrow.

I feel the same way. I'm 25 but for the last few years some people seem to be annoying. More than that what's annoying is hearing so many people complaining about weight and feeling tired and just all around bit**ing about everything in regards to weight. And I'm sitting here wanting to scream at them to stop eating that dang donut then! quit with the fries man! put the cookie down!
:) I've had these thoughts for a while, even though I was in the trend. well I was in the eating trend but I can honestly say I wasn't in the complaining about weight trend b/c that would have been hypocritical.

Sooooooooo ya. welcome!

i'm 19. i didn't have any major illnesses but was just feeling very dull and not looking forward to the future. i was seeing slow changes in my body that i did not like and wasn't very happy with the condition of my skin. i didn't go into this with major major issues but i have gained loads: more energy, balance, happiness, clarity, major reduction in cellulite, much healthier skin, acne clearing up, lost 12 lbs, i feel so excited to just go out and live life and accomplish my goals. i look forward to where im going in life now!

Well, I'm 21, almost 22 ...and my health is very strong as well..I wanted to go raw to have a clear mind and body, and as an excuse to eat all the fruit I want! I was also noticing my body was having negative reactions to dairy and wheat these past couple of years and I was putting on some pounds no matter how much I exercised and watched what I ate...with raw, there's no pressure and that's just how I like it :)

Hi, I'm 25 too. I've been a vegetarian almost my whole life - when I was a toddler I just started refusing to eat meat - I don't remember why, but I've tried meat a few times since then and the texture just seems so "not food" - maybe I felt the same way then.

Anyway, so, I'm in good health, but over the past few months I'd begun to feel so weighed down by my meals - like they cost me energy rather than giving me energy. Also - a huge amount of my hair has fallen out! I think that's because of my BC pill, went on a new one in January - but the hair thinning got me really freaking out about my health, and I'd read about raw before and had been turning it over in my mind, and now...here I am. Great to see you all here. :)

i'm 25 as well, before i was organic, veggie and healthy, although i developed dramatic hair loss which hasn't really stopped, lumps where there shouldn't be, chronic fatigue, mood swings, puffiness, bloating...etc. i've now been high raw since March, and 100% raw for about 3 months, currently experiencing awful detox symptoms in bouts whereas when i started i had high energy for months! v determined to go on ith this... having all the equipment on hand, and making food in bulk really helps.

What's all this I hear about hair loss? Scary stuff...I'd be interested to know if there's some sort of common nutritional deficiency among all those who suffer, as I tend to hear a lot about hair loss with vegans. I myself have been vegan for a long time and never experienced that...but then again, I've always been a health nut as well.

And of course especially before I met that person these boards were a big part of my motivation.

I found it when I was looking up gastric bypass vs. lapband, for my husband. I was online searching for about 1 hour some where "we like it Raw" came up with a girl's story. I attempted to start raw 4 days later. :) Attempted meaning i went to 75% immediately. now attempting 100% over and over and over. :)

I have been vegetarian for a number of years and had gone vegan about a year ago...and shortly, shortly after that, I heard of raw because I was randomly looking for vegan websites so that I could join forums and read links and meet other vegans...and I found Storm and Jinjee Talifero's website. I read the info on it and thought to myself, "Why not?" and planned to do it for 30 days. I liked it enough that I did it longer than that, and each time I've come off it I've come back to it...and come back to it stronger.

The hardest thing about raw is not feeling satisfied. Either nothing is fresh enough, nothing quite hits the spot, or I don't feel full. Any thoughts? Besides cheating...which I tend to do...

Well the insomnia runs in my family, and my neck and shoulder pain came from a bus accident I was in when I was 14. and the back pain is b/c I'm a 34 DD maybe bigger in the bust and I used to be on drill team (dance in highschool).

I'm average weight. Before starting raw I had been sitting at 155 for about 3 years.

i agree and when i eat cooked foods i get this full lethargic feeling. i hate it. but that empty feeling keeps me anxious and nervous and sometimes i get pains. i don't know what to do to keep me full. i don't have a dehydrator or food processor.

I try to drink more green smoothies when I feel this way. in fact, I've noticed that 90% of the stuff I consume, is GS. it's quicker, easier, cheaper, not so messy, curbs appetite, fills me up, reminds me that I'm doing well, makes me a frequent potty visitor b/c of the toxins being released and all the water consumed. and I can drink it while I'm in class at school, at my desk, doing home work reading.
I hate eating while trying to do home work or read. it distracts me.
oh, and sometimes it helps get rid of my panic attacks. ( this is a new discovery)

I think most of the cravings I experience are due to emotions and not to actual hunger. It's difficult to have variety when you're on a diet that requires that most everything be prepared at home, which takes time and money....both of which every student could probably use more of.

I go in and out of green smoothie phases. I usually love them, but if I overdo them, I get sick of them and want nothing more to do with them for a period of time.

One thing I've found that helps me deal with emotional cravings is to find something social to do. Or something else that forces me to physically get out of my flat and move somewhere else...for a purpose. I can't be bothered to take a walk if there's no destination. It's easier to get myself to do something like that than to stay in my flat and try to relax myself...that may happen when pigs fly....relaxation is not my strong point. This works when there are places to be and friends to meet up with....but that is not the case at all hours of the day, unfortunately.

i'm not too fond of green smoothies either. its ok if i have one a day but any more and it'll drive me insane. i prefer having a salad or a fruit instead of a mixture of the two.

i'm transitioning slowly and i've noticed my interest in cooked foods is slowly waning and i'm getting more into raw foods, but i get bored of the same foods over and over again fast. not much variety without spending a lot of time and money like you said.

and i also prefer savory rather than sweet. i see a lot of dessert recipes with fruits and nuts, but that's not really my thing.

iamacranberry
11-04-2007, 05:34 AM
The cost and the temptation both are reasons I try to stay away from raw desserts. For whatever reason, when eating rich, dense raw desserts I psychologically crave more and more no matter how much I've had. This doesn't happen much with more watery raw foods. Occasionally I'll buy raw food bars as a treat to myself, though, and as they're individually wrapped, I can't easily fall to the temptation to have "just one more bite".

hi, i'm new to the forums but i'm around your age- 22- and have always had very good health. i've never been overweight, either. i'm doing this for my future, to live up to my potential, to prove that the horrible "c" word isn't inevitable, and because i feel so great that i know i'd be a fool to give it all up!

i heard about the raw food diet about a year ago, through a link on a vegan blog. i remember that my reaction was the typical one- i thought i could never in a million years do something like that. i thought i'd starve to death. i thought of all the foods i'd be "deprived of." i thought it sounded crazy. but at the same time, i'd been struggling with body image issues and wanting to accept and love myself, and raw foods sounded intriguing. so finally, months later, i pushed the negative thoughts out of my mind, and here i am.

iamacranberry, i think raw gives you a very different kind of satisfaction after eating. i don't get full on raw foods like i used to on cooked, either. i think it's something most people struggle with at first, but then you become used to it. now i look back on old food journals and can't believe i used to fit that much food into my stomach day after day! i feel much more comfortable after meals now, and much lighter in general. if i'm really hungry and want something that'll satisfy me, a big green salad w/ veggies and avocado always does the trick.

Hello. I'm 21, will be 22 on Dec 31st, and I'm a senior in college. This is my first week raw. I've had two dinners that werent raw, so not 100% raw but close enough. I think I will go raw on all days that I can and have non-raw meals when I go out with family or whatever, which is rare, so it doesnt bother me.

My health issues are mostly weight, as I've swung up and down by 20 lbs at least twice a year for the past 3 years, since I first started having eating issues. I had anorexia at one point for a short several months, and since then I've had compulsive overeating issues for 2+ yrs. I would just binge on junk, cereal, ice cream, cookies, all sugary stuff, every single day for months.
I tried raw after learning about it from a friend, and am hoping that it will give me the detox that I need and be the right food style for me to live forever in harmony.

I am enjoying eating lots of fruits and nuts, and some veggies (I'm not a big fan, as some can be quite bitter, but I LOVE spinach). I havent really thought about the calories at this point. I just hope I am not still overeating. I think that habit will be a hard one to kick. I have lost a few lbs since starting. I know its more about health, but I would like to lost 15lbs for good and not gain it over and over again.

I'm glad I finally found a good forum to chat on!

I plan to go to Au Lac soon as well as Good Mood Food (although GMF is not open very late during the week, so that is hard for me to get there).

Hello everybody ...
Im 23 n raw for couple of months now.Didnt have any helath issues except being too often tiread n nervous, neck pain n that kind of stuff but also i felt usually sleepy n sometimes had pain in my stomach or headaches after big meals (n i would so often overeat, though didint have weight issues,i was careful)
This completely vanished now,no pain in the stomach, ever ! The worst thing that can happen to me now is a heavy feeling in my stomach if i overeat with sweets, but thets not often.
IF im on the raw,i eat right, eat when im hungry n dont eat if im not, enjoy food, have energy after meals n dont feel heavy or sick
If i have trips into the cooked everything changes...

I know what you mean there with trips into the cooked food...for me though it's more of a psychological thing, as when I eat more cooked food I'm more likely to be eating JUNKY cooked food.

im 21 and trying to go raw, so I'm younger than you. No health issues, either, I don't take any meds, but I want to stay young looking for as long as possible and would like to sleep less so I have more time to live life.

Exactly, for me its the same - i crave mostly junk.
And i dont hear any alerts in my body to let me know when im full,im kind of like a baby puppy-how much you put on his plate,he'll eat it all
BUT when i eat raw,i simply stop eating when im full,n here i really DO feel when im full.
Unbelievable

I'm 26. But just starting to eat raw after losing it for a few months..
But REALLY nice to see that there are some people of our age doing it raw:cool:

It's true...I'd guess that it's because with raw foods the body is more likely to be getting fair amounts of whatever nutrients actually trigger the "I'm full now!" mechanism.

i just turned 21 a week ago and feel the unhealthiest i ever have. it should be the opposite! i should be in my prime!

going raw is the third step to a healthier state;
i've mostly conquered responsibility and mentality. now it's my body!

i do have a history of hormonal imbalance, thyroid problems, and IBS so a big reason for this is to be able to not worry about being near a bathroom at all times.

cheers!

Hi! I am 20 years old. I have not actually started on my raw food diet as of yet.

I just finished my lemon detox cleansing. I went for 16 days and am now on second day of orange juice post cleansing. One more day of OJ and I can start eating fruits and veggies. So this whole fast is more like 19 days...lol

I can not wait. I'm so hungry for fruits and veggies its driving me nuts! :)

I'm going to try and go raw food diet for at least one week. I'm going to be at least 80 percent raw. I can not give up rice or hot tea, lol.

Dairy is going to be gone since I know how bad that is, and meat and chicken will probably sparse or none at all. I watched this animal cruelty and when I see meat and chicken I feel sick. As long as it is cruelty cage free maybe I will consider but right now no.

Does anybody else live around seattle, lynnwood area?
I go to shoreline community college. :)

I'm 26! It's good to see others my age who share the same passion! I have always been interested in health and eating the right way, I ate all organic, but about a year ago I came across a book by Natalia Rosa and I was hooked on raw ever since. Now I can't buy enough books about it! I am pregnant and struggling really hard to stay on track, I'm having the weirdest cravings  , so I'm hoping this website will help me stay motivated! :D
