View Full Version : sweet brown rice
I bought a ton of sweet brown rice a few weeks ago, thinking I'd make raw rice milk out of it. But it's more work than it's worth, and I'd just as soon drink water.
Anybody have any good raw recipes using this kind of rice? tia :)

Is it raw?

you could see if it sprouts, then if it does make a salad out of it. It is still chewy if it's raw and it sprouts.
Revvel, yes, it's raw. Exurb, that's the problem. Despite it's name, it's way too bitter and chewy to just eat by itself in a salad (to my tastebuds, anyway ;) ). I'm wondering if anyone has a recipe where it's blended w/other ingredients, and maybe dehydrated.

I made it up based on a cooked rice milk recipe I found online. I think it was, 1 cup uncooked brown rice soaked overnight in 2 cups water. Blend it the next morning and strain as you would any nutmilk, then add sweetener/flavoring.
LOL, Cat, you wanna buy my rice?

Revvel, yes, it's raw.
How do you know? Have you tried sprouting it? The reason I ask is I want to use rice, too. Where did you get it?

Cat, I need to amend this. It's actually 4 cups water with 1 cup rice. Hope it didn't cause an inconvenience.

I soaked some barley and then blended it with water and a banana (to sweeten it) and it turned out like porridge. (Cooked Oatmeal)
I've been meaning to try the same thing with rice.

Most (all?) varieties of brown rice sprout. Yes, I have sprouted it. Even when I was cooking I would sprout it first to increase the nutrients.
I got mine in the bulk section at Whole Foods.
