Ok, so I have not been raw long, 1.5 weeks, it has not been difficult, I feel phenomenal, with the exception of constipation (as i've always had) and quite severe bloating. But all of this is besides the point.. I'll get to it then... haha

Just hours ago I was so jazzed, thrilled, excited about recieving my dehydrator, posted asking what should be my first creation.

Have not even turned it on, don't really want it anymore. I feel I only want fruits and veggies, just as they are. I don't know if this is possible or some kind of fluke. I'm curious and confused. Any sort of response would be incredibly appreciated, and I would be sooo grateful.

I barely know this place, but I have an enormous love for it, thank you everyone!!

When the weather gets cold you may well wish for some more filling foods from your dehydrator. I saw a recipe from a link here yesterday that made a wrap from the blended coconut meat which I suspect would be filling enough a treat to entice my family. So am looking forward to when can get a "real" dehydrator.

Then again, maybe I am over reacting, due to some disheartening things I read an hour or so about "raw" nuts. Could be it, I truly have no idea. :(

I'm terribly sorry for taking up room with this temper tantrum, of sorts. I am just at a loss, is this a legitimate feeling? Or a freak out? uhh. One one had, I want to make things like flax crakers, and fruit leather, etc, on the other hand I dont. I can not make up my own mind. terrible. Fruits, veggies, and sprouts? Or the whole shabang? I guess I will have to wait and see what my body does, haha.

My apologies! <3

I think it is véry likely you feel that way, and I wouldn't just disregard it.
A lot of people who start with the raw & living foods diet, use a dehydrator as a means of transitioning, meaning they use it to make certain types of food they love eating and which remind them of certain cooked foods. Usually, as their diet evolves, they start to eat simpler and simpler, eating less dehydrated foods and more fresh produce. Eventually, most of them will only eat fresh produce and some of them may want to eat dehydrated foods every once in a while.

When I started eating raw over a year ago, I didn't want to buy a dehydrator and felt fresh fruits and vegetables would be the most beneficial for me. I also noticed raw foodist would eventually get to that place where they wouldn't eat dehydrated foods anymore. So I just thought: 'Why take the long road, when you can get to that place directly?' I have to admit though, that my transitioning consist of eating raw produce and at times cooked foods, and over time the amount of cooked foods lessened. Nowadays, I wouldn't mind it if I had a dehydrator to get me over the 'worst' cooked food cravings/habits, but on the other hand, I feel I've already come a long way (I'm high raw now) and I won't be using the dehydrator very much, so to get it now, maybe would be a waste of money.

Everyone's different and you should listen to what feels right for you. If at the moment, you feel like eating fruits and veggies only, just go with that feeling.
There may come a time when you feel like eating dehydrated foods, or craving cooked foods and then the dehydrator will really come in handy.
Or you may be feeling like eating good/rather healthy cooked choices every once in a while, instead of dehydrated foods (the opinions on how healthy a nut burger is or instead eating some steamed vegetables or potato differ). But on the other hand, that time may never come and you may be one of those people who transitions easily.
Maybe it's too early to say yet, you have just started. And it cán be a bit of confusing time.

Anyhow, like you said yourself, you'll just have to wait and see what your body does.
You can always sell or give your dehydrator away if you end up not using it at all, right?

Hello~*s* Welcome to the forum~:)
I eat very simply but use the dehydrator for crackers sometimes. The way I see it is this....in the winter on a sad diet most folks eat heavier to sustain them thru the cold winter months.....raw can be the same...Alissa has wonderful recipes for denser foods for that time...in summer even sad eaters eat more fruits and veggies...lighter fare....perhaps when winter comes you will need or want more substance.

Sounds like the dehydrator can be a really good thing if you get in a slump.

I'm on day 2 of raw... anyone want to sell theirs they don't use anymore? :D

or give it away? :p

I'm going to go to ebay or craigslist to see what's out there... :)

Yana, sounds like you are doing great!

Your body wanting juicy fruits and veggies is a legitimate feeling. :) And your body is the only one that knows what is best for it. Our bodies always tell us what they need. However, we have become very adept at thinking, rationalizing, and just wondering otherwise. If your body needed heavier food it would be asking for it. You will likely keep wanting juicy fresh food until your digestive system is working better, and maybe forever. It's a process and your body knows best, let it guide you.

For the constipation you might try keeping a bottle or glass of water nearby and taking 3 or 4 swallows every 15-20 min or so the entire time you are awake. No need to be exact, just a good habit to get into. That rate of absorption will not make you pee more often. What it will do is keep your body lubricated so all processes work better.

Alooha!!! Ya know.. just go with your gut feeling... but if you change your mind... Then no worries.. just go with the flow! It's all a journey and you will find your body will change too. Some days you may want only fruit... other days -- only deep greens....

it is good that you are listening to your body. Someday it may want a more dense meal like Alissas enchiladas (which are amazing btw!)...

or flax crackers which are a good snack...

I also love my dehydrator b/c it give my dh alternate choices, I can make him raw fruit leather rather than him buying FRUIT ROLL up filled with sugar, preservatives and gawd only knows what else!

It's a blessing that you have the dehydrator... if you want to use it -- it's there... if you never use it -- no worries... this is a journey and you will find what works for you -- that's the most important thing!

ENJOYING THE RIDE... HAVING FUN WITH IT... PLAY WITH YOUR FOOD!!

RAWK ON!!

Wow everyone! I don't know were to begin! Thank you so much for your incredible responses! I truly do appreciate it!! Thank you Judy, GlimR, Ladypeace83, Doe, and Starfire!!

It seems to be a concensus that the winter months will definitley benefit from a dehydrator. I had not even thought of that! I will wait and see what happens :).

Many, many thanks!

Love,

Yana

I like playing with my dehydrator! I use it an average of twice a week and it adds so much variety to my diet and all of that wonderful comfort food.

Don't apologize! And, don't beat yourself up. Frankly, I go through phases with my dehydrator. At times, I have it going around the clock for days. Then, it will go unused for a couple of months. Go with the flow and don't think you have to do things a certain way -- learn what works for you. Same with sprouting...food combining...etc etc etc.
