Has anyone heard of...
The Wholefood Farmacy? My friend just told me that she was going raw too. I got all excited. Then she hands me this brochure from 'WHOLEFOOD FARMACY'... interesting...
packaged - dry stuff... I tasted one - it was very tasty - but weird... odd.. not right somehow....
I can't describe it - but my body said... um... noooooo ... so I stopped eating it.
It says it dryed at a low temperature - and it looks nothing like when I dehydrate foods -- this stuff is perfectly shaped, perfectly retains its colors - but like air puffed greenbeans or corn or carrots... it looks like a green bean... it tasted kinda like a green bean... but its weird... I know that doesnt help... but I dunnoooo somethings not right in kansas .... ???
so - anyone heard of this company? They're also selling this weird oil (pure spring water, alo vera, cinnamon oil and 24 CARAT GOLD....???? huh?? waaat  ???
packages of powdered soup - just add it to water... it's all very strange. She's all happy cuz she's going on this 13 day detox program with this 'raw' food (that doesn't seem raw at all)... and the detox program says....
by day 2 you will feel detox
by day 3 detox will be more intense
by day 4 -- You will be ON FIRE WITH EXCITMENT feel great - full of energy
by day 13 -- your life will be changed... You'll be in the zone and looving this food...
hmmm.... wow... I dunno....
oh and the other big item they got her to buy was this stuff that (by reading the ingredients - sounds like it's just salt (what they refer to as their special pure salt) and baking soda ... you're supposed to mix it with water and it's supposed to 'hydrate you'....
so - any of you RAWBIES (AND ESPECIALLY YOU MODERATORS) anyone heard of this stuff???

From the FAQ:
Are all of the products raw?
The ingredients in our products are raw with the exception of our roasted corn products or products which contain the roasted corns. The products which are not raw are:
Cornaborealis
Cornucopia
Corn of Plenty
Veggielicous spice
Some products contain cashews which are removed from the shell using a steam process. The cashew nuts can reach temperatures of up to 140 F during this process. They do not necessarily reach that temperature, however, it is possible.
Their bath and beauty products look VERY promising to me. And I'm going to try their tooth-gel. No Glycerin!

Oh boy, I have a bit of personal experience with this stuff. I was a bit put off by it b/c it seemed to be a multi-level marketing scheme but I bought it anyway. I spent somwhere around $200 on the stuff. You set up your own site when you sign up and get discounts. I am not saying that this has any bearing on the integrity of the product. Just a bit off to me.
I really don't know whether the foods are truly raw but it does seem strange to me too that the veggies are "puffy". They remind me of the "Just Veggies" items that you see at the health food store. You may be able to look them up to get a better idea of the temps and drying method. There is one item that you are supposed to eat as the bulk of your diet. I forget what it was called but it was like a giant gooey health food bar. I couldn't stomach it. The veggies were tolerable and I actually liked the spicy veggies. My bf liked the fruit but picked out all the bits he liked and left the rest. They had great customer service when I called. It may be worth it to give them a call and ask about the product. I wasn't really transitioning to raw yet so I didn't think to ask about the temps. All said and done, I didn't return the stuff in time and ended up throwing away the gooey stuff (wish I could remember the name) and feeding the veggies to the dogs.
Personally, I won't invest any more money in their products but that is just my tastes. I really like fresh juicy food.

all those trail mixes seem kinda over the top with all those ingredients in one thing, at least to me they do. i dont think id feel too great if i ate some of that stuff. i mean, its better than SAD but something seems a little off about it.

PERSONALLY -- I AM NOT REMOTELY interested in their products. I was already approached and asked to become a distributor - which I WILL NOT... seriously -- when I ate the stuff my body just said... NOooooo.
it did not want it - even if it did taste sorta good. (I tried the veggie spice thingy). Puffy - airy vegetables?? it was strange... why not just eat a green bean for goodness sake... why ... morph the thing into some kind of air puffed whatever??? it's just odd...
I'm just asking out of concern for my gf. Yes she's already bought it - and YES... it is better than MickyD's... but -- all in all - is it RAW??? is it vibrant LIVE FOODS??? didn't seem very vibrant to me or alive ... it seemed hollow - dead and crunchy --- like crunching on some kind of outter shell or skeleton of the fruit... yew.... it just didn't seem right... like cruncy air???
and how can anyone detox in 4 days and be ON FIRE so quickly and have all your body detoxed and renewed in 13 days.. ???
I can see - be on your way to health -- but this is a process not a magic bullet. I'm always skeptical when something makes such huge promises ... and guarantees...

This sounds like something my mom brought with her when she came to visit yesterday. Her organic market, Basic Foods in Beaumont, Texas, have a deli. She got a veggie sandwich (not raw) and it came with dehydrated veggies. There were green beans that had the same shape as green beans but were light as air. I tried one. I just can't help but feel that they are not raw. The "chips" made from yams and carrots were the same way. They looked like they were fresh but had a weird cooked crunch to them. Hard to explain really. If they really are raw I would LOVE to know how they dehydrated them. But I don't think I will be buying any of the products.

I just went to this site and it scares me. Not a mention of natural raw foods in their perfect state as God created them. And they encourage you to order more around day 5 so that end of day 13 you will have the supplies for the nest 13 days. They say you can eat like this for as long as you wish "One lady ate nothing but Phi Plus and water for 9 months and lost 316 lbs! So if you’re in the zone, feeling great, losing weight, and want to go all the way – now is the time to order your next Tri-Decathlon so it will arrive before you run out of food!"
It is all processed in some form or another and nothing is in its pure state. I would not want to eat like this.

This company had a booth at a festival I went to and were sampling a ton of their products. I tried most of them--some crunchy veggie things, fruity things, bar-type things... I thought they were all good except one thing I didn't like the spices in. They didn't make me feel bad at all. But yeah, sometimes I wonder how "raw" companies can get things so crispy and fluffy. NOTHING I dehydrate turns out like that! So I dunno... I'd call and ask if there are concerns about the temperature, but rather than obsess about the temp I'd be concerned about eating only packaged foods for 2 weeks. I don't see how it could be healthy to not eat anything fresh, regardless of how raw the packaged items are. Then again, for most people, that's how they eat anyway so at least this packaged stuff is healthier than SAD packaged stuff

ARE THEY FREEZE DRIED?
From what you said about the way they look, crunch, etc., they could be freeze dried. Perhaps you could inquire.
In some people's thinking freeze dried is "raw" (not in mine;) ). I've seen so called raw stuff on E-bay that's freeze dried.

now see... that's what my dh said... he thought maybe they were freeze dried.???
I'm also confused b/c I thought whole foods were just that... WHOLE FOODS.. LIKE THE WHOLE GREEN BEAN, LIVE VIBRANT .... filled with goodness... are these airy, light hollow things still considered 'whole foods?'

My opinion? If something's making you go, "Hmmm, I dunnooooo", then it's questionable. I wouldn't eat it. Sounds too weird for me and the fact that they want you to see their product, very strange. Nope, not a good thing in my mind.

It would be interesting to do an experiment using the Wholefood Farmacy produce versus regular produce from the grocery store. Natural produce will spoil. Set the two side by side so that all conditions are equal. Then see which one spoils first. If you do this experiment I would be interested in hearing the results. Another experiment could be done with Wholefood Farmacy produce only. Just set it aside and see if it spoils. This experiment could be done by anyone with a very small amount of the "puffy" produce. Again, please report any results on this thread. Thanks in advance.

This thread speaks volumes to me about the kind of food I want to put in my body. I enjoy foods from the garden in their natural form. I find them tasty and full of good health and vitality.

hmm... well it's probably better than a lot of stuff out there, but it's another way for them to make money off nutrition! i bet it's a scary idea to have people simply buy fruit and vegetables, mix them up/blend them into drinks/smoothies/soups and not require any "pre-packaged" "healthy" foods... nobody can really make lots of money out of us eating simple whole foods that are out there

Water content means the WORLD to me. I like dehydrated things for texture, but it reminds me alot of how I felt eating SAD: THIRSTY AND DRY!
I feel alive and moisturized after a fresh salad or smoothie, but if I eat dried stuff too much I feel poopy tired.

Water content means the WORLD to me.Me too. I juice a lot and its amazing to me how much juice is in a solid carrot or a stalk of celery. The nutrients in the foods are in the juice. As Jay Kordich (the juiceman) is fond of saying "its the juice of the fiber that feeds you". The fiber is a carrier for the juice and is good for bowel movement but the juice is where the life force is.

Well, I believe that the contents of the juice (nutrients etc.) are still present in the dehydrated foods, just lacking the h2o along with it...which is what makes me feel clean and alive. I need a juicer! I'm planning on getting an Omega 8003 for my birthday (october!) because I've heard it's the best for greens etc in combo with fast cleanup.

See if you can get your birthday present early -- you'll love it cause its juicy with all that natural water and plant nutrients in there.

I REALLY want a juicer for MAINLY juicing greens, and doing shots of them. I love salads, I can handle green smoothies (though in a smaller greens to fruit ratio than most) but I want very concentrated nutrition. Wheatgrass, kale...everything, I want more greeny nutrition in my life :)

Juicing is the mainstay of my raw foods program. I juice lots of greens and other vegetables everyday and the more I juice the better I feel. I am getting an enormous amount of fresh clean water along with an abundance of nutrients everyday.

Marketing. I wonder how many people have wanted to go raw and stumbled upon that site or another one similar and went that route. Why not just eat greens, fruit, nuts, seeds, and veggies in their natural WHOLE state??

Hey Star, sounds like time for an intervention. LOL
and that dear beppa is the question... so how do I do this after shes' spent over $200 on crap?? Do I tackle her and grab her dried airpuffy veggies from her b4 she swallows them?!!!! http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s43/FireStar_830/whacky007.gif ... I tried to talk to her a little bit about them... she is absolutely sure this will detox her system and that she will lose a lot of weight ... I guess I shouldn't worry - she may only do it for the 13 days and then it will be over... ;)
