Hi everyone! I'm new here.
Just got the book a couple days ago, been reading like a maniac. Super excited to get started! Going to go to store this evening to stock up on stuff and I'm starting tomorrow.
I'm sure this is probably easy, and I'm making it much more complicated than it needs to be, but I want to do it right. Especially since I have about 75 pounds to lose.
I am completely lost with proper food combinations and using the chart in the book. First of all, if I compare two categories one way, I get some compatibilities, and I flip the foods the other way (vertical vs. horizontal) and it gives me different results. How do I read this darn thing??
The book says it's best to not mix the different fruits, but then I see recipies combining them. Example being a sweet fruit with acidic. Or watermelon combined with other stuff when the book said melon should always be eaten alone.
HELP ME!!! :o

For now, when just starting, try not to worry too much about food combining. The focus right now is to start eating raw and getting used to it...the recipes are so that you don't feel deprived or like you're missing out on anything.
As you eat raw longer, your body will let you know if and when to start "properly combining" foods so try to do Alissa's 30-day challenge and just allow your body to get used to the lighter feeling of raw foods in the belly.

hi,
Rawkinlocs is right, don't worry about all that stuff, just eat raw and enjoy. i think that all the do's and don'ts makes raw hard work and really it should be fun and enjoyable. just get used to raw and you will find you make the changes naturally,

You're right, I just need to relax and have fun with it. I think I bombarded myself with too much too fast. I'm sure I'll learn as I go. Thank you for the advice! You eased my mind.
Day one! Going well so far....except for a headache from no coffee. Ugh. :)

Good for you!! Day 2 and 3 were the ones that hit me the hardest.
One tiny bit of advice. My mom tried to go raw last year with me and did not follow proper food combining. She would have a big salad with a lot of veggies and also a big bowl of fruit. It hurt her stomach so badly that she finally gave up. I am certainly not trying to scare you or give you concerns but if you DO start to have stomach issues you might want to look at what you are eating together. That's all. :)
Congratulations on your beginning!!!! Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

Thank you for the good advice! I appreciate it. I'll be careful to watch for that. So far I've been putting a few hours between meals and eating fruits and veggies separately.
Yeah, things have gotten a little tougher for me. I feel starving! Definitely eating when I get hungry, but it doesn't feel satisfying yet. I'm sticking with it though, it'll be worth it in the end.
Thanks again every one for being so helpful. :)

I'm still fairly new myself (2 weeks 3 days raw) so I can relate! I definitely recommend Alissa's book and my biggest advice is TAKE FOOD WITH YOU EVERYWHERE YOU GO! Alissa mentions this several times in her book, but after the first week, I got a little cocky. I have gone out to eat with friends/family twice recently and have been starved afterwards, with no way to satiate myself! I wish I had followed Alissa's advice. I'm definitely going to pack nuts or something to carry with me at all times.
I would love to make Alissa's fudge balls to carry with me, but haven't found raw carob.(Everything is toasted!) I just today got my cocoa nibs--does anyone know if I can use them for the fudge balls?

Yeah, I've been taking food with me. Went to the zoo a couple days ago. Boy, that was hard seeing all that good food there. I did take a little cooler of fruit with me, it definitely helped.
Same here with the carob powder. I was going to make those fudge balls, bought carob at a health food store. Didn't even think about it till I got home and read that it wasn't raw. Major bummer. Not sure where to find the raw stuff locally. Might have to order it I guess. I want chocolate. :(
