Hey!

I just sprouted a nice pile of quinoa overnight and am so impressed and excited! Quinoa is one of my favorite foods and I was upset to think I'd have to give it up when transitioning to 99% raw. I learned yesterday about sprouting it and was really jazzed, but not sure if it would work or not.

I woke up this morning to a whole jar full of half-sprouted beautiful grains, and by this afternoon they were ready to go. Here is what I made with them:

Spinach leaves
Sprouted quinoa
Sliced green pepper
Diced tomato
Chopped almonds
Chopped parsley
A little salt&pepper, oil and vinegar

E presto, an unbelievably delicious and nutritious salad that gives me just about everything I could possibly want in a meal -- and oodles of protein from the quinoa. So fabulous!

So impressed was I with the wonder and merriment of sprouted quinoa that as soon as I finished my salad I went to the kitchen and started another batch for tomorrow. Hizzah!

E

I've been OBSESSED with sprouting Lentils! It's SO CHEAP.
I buy a bag of those for a couple bucks, a bag of carrots and some various veggies, use some oil and spices and I've got some good veggie patties!

Oh, man. I can't wait to get back to the states and my OWN KITCHEN where I can produce such fabulous specimens as veggie patties.

Soon...

Can you make something like a cold cream of wheat (with agave nectar and almond milk)? I have quinoa and haven't sprouted it. I started mung beans yesterday though. I am surprised that they're growing so quickly!

How much did you sprout? I have been bringing salad for lunch this week and I'd like to put quinoa on it like you did.

Would you share your veggie patties recipe?

It REALLY differs every time, but here is the basic base:
2 cups sprouted lentils (about 1/3 dry)
2 cups carrots or another sweet root vegetable, maybe beets or something
1 T poulty seasoning
1 1/2 tsp salt
2 T oil of choice, I use flax (though I might sub avocado for the oil next time)
1 T ACV (apple cider vinegar)
1 1/2 tsp onion powder, but I think fresh onion would taste better, just do maybe 1/4 cup

From there I vary - I really like curry powder and turmeric, so LAST TIME I used
1/2 tsp or more Turmeric,
about 1 1/2 T curry (I had to keep adding more to my liking),
a dash of cayenne,
2-3 big handfulls baby spinach,
1/2 tsp Chili powder
2 T agave

I blend all of the ingredients in the FP (I pulse the carrots first), and then form into patties on teflex trays, and flip over onto another tray (by putting another tray on top, and then turning the whole thing over and peeling off the teflex) after maybe 6 hours at 120 degrees on my excalibur temp. control.

I might try adding some psyllium husk next time, but I think these hold together really well if I just compact the patties with my spatula every so often during dehydration, to prevent cracking.

I bought some celery because I think it would taste reeeally good in this, and I think I'll switch up the greens every time.
Right now I have 3/4 cup of lentils sprouting so I can double the amount I make. I'm trying to save money dehydrating on EVERY tray at one time.

My mom ALWAYS thinks that the spices are too strong, so maybe you'll want to start with less, because I like things REALLY zesty. I think I have weak taste-buds :)

Thanks for showing a picture. Quinoa is not one of my favorite foods. It tastes bitter to me. Maybe sprouting is the way to go. I have a big bag of millet. I'll try sprouting this and see how it does.

I have some quinoa in my freezer, I might try sprouting that and adding it to my patties. Does it have a bitter yucky taste to everyone else? am I not sprouting it long/short enough?

If I remember correctly, quinoa is one of those that you need to soak and rinse REALLY well. Saponin (if I am dregging my memory right) is the stuff on it that makes it taste bitter. Even when cooking quinoa, it was recommended to rinse really well to get rid of it.

It seems like I rinsed the poooopies out of it, from my memory! Haha I'll try it again :) i was just going to donate it all to my vegan/cooked friend, she has tons of quinoa meal recipes lol

Please tell me how to do it.
