Hello,
I am new to RFT. I have been raw for 2 days. Hoping to make it 30 days to start, but I am not going to do the 30 day challenge maybe until September. I will be mostly reading since I have far more to learn than to contribute. I am looking forward to getting some support and having some accountability.
I am a 29, a high school teacher and in grad school part time getting my Masters in English (Linguistics). I can say that cooking has not been top on my list for a LONG time, so raw is right up my alley. My family is very supportive and my DH will be helping by going partially raw.
So far I am finding this to be really, really easy. I don't have any complicated recipes, menus, or counting to do. I just make sure to have good food around and where I have relatively easy access to it, and there you go! Obviously no prepackaged food to buy.
I am hoping to make myself as healthy as possible (including losing weight - about 90 pounds). I have been slowly (for the past 5 or 6 years, and then a lot faster this last year) noticing health changes. It started with new allergies and IBS. Then a year ago, I started getting unexplainable hives. Anytime I have even mild trauma to my skin (pressure, scratches, sometimes even just exertion like exercise) I get red, raised, itchy hives. I also suffer from insomnia. It is much worse in the summer or when I am stressed out. I have tried doctors of all kinds - GP, diet, allergist, gastro, derma. I have been poked, prodded, and drugged. I have tried Unisom, Ambien, antihistemines and other allergy meds, steroid cream, Eucerin, antispasmodics for IBS (occasionally - which actually do help a bit, but I would really like not to need them). Nothin - plus I have developed some amazing tolerances for Benedryl and Unisom. On my worst nights, I have taken 6-7 Unisom before getting to sleep (not all at once), and even then I sometimes didn't stay asleep. I just know that there can't be individual causes for each of these ailments. They MUST be related. I would love to hear of anyone here who has had similar situations that were helped by changing their way of eating.
