View Full Version : Lack of appetite?

I know that I have read a lot of raw foodies say that they have less of an appetite after going raw and I know why. But has anyone ever noticed a huge decrease in appetite?
Except for my mad cooked food binge today, I have been 95% raw for about a month and I notice I wake up and can go HOURS without eating and feel fine. I mean, I get a bit dizzy but I feel it's detox but I don't feel hungry nor want food. Sometimes I feel I need to make myself eat something, even if it's just fruit. Is this normal?
Normally I wouldn't worry but I still nurse my 23 month old. He doesn't nurse a lot anymore but he still takes a bunch of nutrients from me and yes, I drink TONS of water, at least 3 liters.
I was even doing at least one green smoothie a day and now I never have the want or need to. I don't feel I am getting enough. Some days I get up and all I end up eating is like fruit in the mid afternoon and then later I will eat some marinated veggie based meal for dinner. This is just recent.
So, this normal? My body adjusting itself? Should I worry?

It could be depression. Every woman responds differently. For me when I am really depressed I can't eat which is an event that has occured only a handful of times in my life. You definitely need to eat more. If you can, go out for a morning walk, get some fresh air, recite everything you are grateful for, try to eat a healthy breakfast, lunch and dinner or five small meals, but sounds like you need to just work up to three small ones, even if you are just adding a banana first thing in the morning. You also didn't mention healthy fats, very important. Add some nuts, try to munch on those throughout the day, even if it's just a handful. Start small and build your way up. It is an act of love to take care of oneself. Make a decision to take actions that will reflect this.

I wish I didn't have an appetite. It would make weight loss so much easier.

Well, I do fats too, because it's not just fruit, when I do finally get hungry I whip up guacamole or a raw pie made with tons of nuts, it just varies. It all depends on what I crave.
I take care of 5 kids, homeschooled all day and I can fix them meal after meal and watch them eat and I'm just NOT hungry. Like thinking about food and I'm just... eh. It's not an every single day thing but it does happen often enough that I worry. I kinda forced myself into one of my usual green smoothies today and just finished it off just so I'd have some nutrients. It had tons of spinach, some fruit and flax in it.

I'm having the same problem myself. I just have no appetite. For breakfast, if I have it, I eat a granny smith apple. Today for lunch I forced myself to have a bowl of mixed spring green w/ some olive oil and apple cider vinegar. I just had a half a banana. Tonight, maybe I'll have a portobella mushroom w/ avocado. I've been 100% raw for 8 days.
I have maybe 75 pounds to lose, so I hope my appetite increases somewhat because this overly-decreased calorie intake will screw with my metabolism more than my years of yo-yo dieting already have! I've already proven on many diets that I can subsist on very little calories w/o losing weight.
Nothing sounds good to me!

I have mornings I feel like that but I'm a juicer, so out comes the Champion juicer and down goes the liquid nutrition.

I'd be doing that if I had a juicer. :(

Me too, but it's just not in my budget. At all.

i've noticed the past few mornings i haven't woken up hungry. and before going raw i used to wake up STARVING! it kind of worries me--i'm always thinking "oh no! is my metabolism slowing?! am i still digesting/burning up the food i ate more than 12 hours ago?!" I woke up at 9 and still haven't eaten, but i think i might force a peach down...

It could be this hot August weather curbing your appetite. I don't have as much appetite when the weather is really hot.

Has your appetite returned?
I went raw a few months back and was all gung ho. I couldn't get enough to eat, yet no matter how much I ate, I still lost weight.
I fell off the wagon and went through some depression, but the past couple of weeks I have been able to maintain about 90 percent raw. However, like you, when I wake up in the morning, I just can't eat. I don't think about it and by the time I get to bed, I realize I've not eaten more than a handful of nuts and a piece of fruit.
I'd like to get back to the healthy energy I felt when I first went raw.
