View Full Version : My body is freaking out!

Okay, before I tell you guys what is freaking me out let me give you some background information.
Even at my highest weight of 230 lbs, I have always been very muscular and solid. I have NEVER been flabby in my life, I used to body build (I bench 185) if that gives you an idea of my body type.
Now, I have been 99-100% raw for about 2 months and before that I was 80% raw for the month of May. Just recently I have noticed a change in my physique, from muscular fat to very flabby fat. My arms jiggle, my stomach and breasts are hanging and just yesterday I was lying on my stomach, on my bed, banging my legs on the edge of the bed and my butt jiggled. I had to do it again just to confirm that I felt what I felt. And when I squeeze my arms and legs they feel mushy. I have never experienced this before and I don’t like it one bit. What is happening to my body? Am I turning into a bowl of jello? This worries me.
Do I need more protein? Has anyone experienced this before?

hmm interesting. all i know is i get more flabbier when i dont move or exercise for a period of time. at college my butt was in great shape and had a great shape lol bc i was walking all time up and down hills around campus, etc. now since ive come home for the summer im not moving/walking NEAR as much and my bottom has gotten saggier. i think i just need to up my exercise again so i started walking the other nigth again. i hope to see results.

I'm wondering if it's part of the process Alissa talks in her book about losing the false body. Your body might be getting ready to dump all of that fat by loosening it up first. Jiggle it up, move it out!

I am exercising. 60 minutes on the elliptical every morning and then I play tennis with my daughter for 45-60 minutes in the evenings, Mon through Fri. I rest only on the weekends. Sometimes I burn more than I consume in calories.

That's happened to me too. It's only been about a month for me, but my fat got kind of squishy. It was right under the skins' surface. Several days went by, then I lost some inches and the squishiness was gone. Most of it was on my abdomen. I've got it on my arms and back/top of inner thighs now.
I did a search for 'squishy' to see if anyone else used that term and several posts came up. Take a look at this one in particular http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=11639&highlight=squishy

OMG i also feel SQUISHY!
Thanks for the link CaliRaw! I do hope it's the fat getting ready to LEAVE me :D i was just so pissed- i keep exercising but because i seem to be more soft, i thought it was my muscle disappearing :S oh my, i feel a bit better now :)

When I first when raw, I couldn't work out because I was going through detox symptoms (headache, dizziness and major fatigue). Within three weeks, I got flabby. Once I was able to start working out again, running, spinning and weights, the flab was gone. Cardio alone dosent do it for me. I have to have weight bearing exercises in the mix too.
I think some of what we perceive as muscle was actually hard fat. For me, that hard fat was the first to go. I think thats why I felt flabby. Plus I was losing muscle from just laying around. Most of my hard fat is gone. I just have muscle and soft fat left.

This happens to me if I eat foods i'm intolerant to and if I have salt. I've been eating salt lately so...yea lol. It's not fun!

Try dry skin brushing. Works wonders for the skin and what lies underneath!

What is dry skin brushing?
I agree with the other posters.. I remember reading where the body can store two types of fat, the hard stuff and the soft stuff. I think you're losing the hard stuff
Bench 185???? You are my hero!

I called this the 'ugly duckling stage'... so far I've been thru it twice. Right before I my body flushed cellulite and fat.. I got so squishy - jiggley and down right scary looking! I was horrified.. but then it just started smoothing out - and firming up again. After the first time I was so relieved!! a few weeks later it started happening again - and then... flush... things started firming up again!! (I lose inches during the flush - the scale didn't seem to move - my body just flushed stuff out and then I noticed all my clothes were fitting me much looser!!) so this is a good thing little grasshopper!!!
RAWK ON!! :D
When I started eating raw over a year ago, I was already slender, and rather muscular, due to 14+ hours or so of yoga and dance a week. There wasn't much to lose (or so I thought), however, I started to lose weight very rapidly, and became, well... yes, squishy would be the word, like I've been losing not only fat, but muscle tissue as well. I could be like... Mr Fantastic with those long soft arms and legs. I actually got too thin, I later found out it had to be detox and that it would pass, but it did scare me a bit anyway. I was posting all over this board to check if this was normal. It didn't help that my family got worried, my dad said I looked weak and my mom started saying that this wasn't healthy-she's a nurse and all (at that point I actually weighed what I weighed in high school, which was like 15 years ago). I felt só not supported and misunderstood, I really stood alone in this whole thing. I didn't and couldn't explain by that time that it was normal, that it just happens when you eat like that and that it was just temporary, because I didn't really know that for sure and didn't really trust the process. Every change, especially changes that are quite dramatic and haven't happen to you before are kind of scary, because they're well... unknown territory.
I did feel fine though. And I gained back weight and firmness later, which had to do with not being 100% raw, but also, I feel, with my body rebuilding its tissues. Now, if this would happen again, I would be prepared and I wouldn't feel as insecure as I did then. I also would know what to say to people, and if they wouldn't believe it, well, then that's that (mothers just can keep on worrying whatever you say to reassure them). O yeah, in my case, when I ate fruit all day, the weight seemed to fall off just like that, when I ate more veg, it didn't, or not as rapidly.
So as long as you feel fine, it's ok. The tissues wíll rebuild. Only if it lasts like ages and you're starting to feel weak, thén you have to worry.

Thanks for all the reassurance.....I was starting to feel like an alien shedding its skin or muscle or fat. You know what I mean :D

I've got the squishy thing going on too! I attribute it to eating more and more raw.and for me the transition to menopause. Because my exericise is pretty steady, altho I stopped weight training about 2 yrs ago. I think that's part of it too.
I truly hope that Alissa's right about the false body. And that rings so true ot me. There are timeshaI can 'see' my true body inside my fat body and I know that I can allow my true body to emerge with raw.
I never, ever was squishy before, even fat, I was firm. and I am intending that I'll be firm again.

this is an old thread.. but i'm hoping i get a response anyway:).
ok.. so i am on day 5 of 100% raw. i know, not long at all. over the past couple days i've noticed this same "squishy-ness".. i feel like one of those babydolls that have "jelly" inside them. anyone know those dolls i'm talking about? i had one when i was little, not sure they make them anymore:).
anyway.. so being on day 5 is that too soon to be feeling like this? could i be eating too much fat? not enough water? also i've been pmsing and quite bloated all week:(.. could the new diet and that combined cause that feeling?
i have had nuts every day this week.. in some form or another. i had raw ice cream, i made something i named apple pie balls, i made raw burgers, i had raw soup with olive oil and cashews in it. i actually feel like i'm gaining weight.. and now i'm about to make raw pancakes. even though i'm eating all these fats will i still lose weight?
that's a lot of questions.. sorry. i'm a little lost here:\.
thanks for reading!

I am not sure i understand your post. Do you mean that you have loose skin? If so try to supplement with MSM (Large quantity). Many reported losing a lot of weight and their skin was fine.
Hope you find what you need soon
p.s Research about MSM, it is typically safe to take but rare people with specific condition can have problem. Don't take this at night, it cans lead to sleep desorder. I am not a doctor, please research.

Really interesting article. Explains a great deal as to why I am my ideal weight but can't fit my clothes comfortably. I now know I have to continue to loose weight WHILST building lean muscle.

hmm... not loose skin so much as this feeling beneath my skin. like the fat below the surface of my skin just got really soft and squishy feeling.
i have some msm, maybe i should try that.. but i feel a little hesitant on taking any supplements while i transition. i will look it up:).

Kelly Ann, did you read the OP in this thread and the responses? Obvious question I know but I thought it answered your question. It seems this squishiness is the fat breaking down before a weight release. Five days in? I would think you are definitely priming for a weight release!
